The wipers on my car are not working as I would have thought, And I was wondering is it the motor that bad.

The wipers dont go to the end of the windshield I was wondering if the motor is weak or if the arms were mount incorrectly and the wipers are just off by a little. But the wipers go to about 3 inches away from the windshield and then go back down.

The previous owner gave me some wiper arms wich looked to be the old ones so the arms were replaced hopefully.

Below are 2 links to the issues which may have caused these problems whci carried there way to me.zerothread?id=96286

I bought it from gloucester Q but I hav'nt been able to contact him since he last sold me the car.

And on the intermittent wiper problem some times the intermittet wiper works sometimes it doesnt, And also sometimes when I turn my wipers on the dont turn off with the wiper switch unless I turn off the car or wait for some time, I hav'nt been able to tell for sure how long it takes because I cant drive in rain and count at the same time.

i would think the intermittent wiper issue not working could be the switch. I think i might have a spare in the attic.

Theres also a "wiper amplifier" which controls the wiper motor, that could be bad as well. Im not sure ive heard of a wiper motor going bad?

In the past I have had the wipers get messed up. I would try turning the wipers on, get them to extend as far as they go, and turn the ignition off. this will keep the wipers in the highest position. Then by hand move them all the way to the end fo the windshield, they should move easily.

I remember one guy fried his motor when his wipers were frozen. Replacement effort made him wished he had fried his alternator instead.

I'll second that. Removing a wiper motor is a knuckle busting, blood letting ordeal. I still have nightmares about it.

Take Wes' advice and throw some money at parts. The wiper amplifier is probably the easiest to get to. Look at the FSM self-diagnostics and the schematic to see what other relays are in the circuit.

yeah i remember the wiper motor being awful. I had the ABS pump out, standing in the engine bay (motor was out) and it still sucked.

The problem turned out to be a weak wiper motor that was dying. I replaced with a spare I never thought I would need and the problem was solved. I still have to align the wiper arms to the factory height from molding (10 MM if memory serves).

I had to shift my windshield 4 inches to starboard when my wiper motor started acting up. I also went to a one inch oversize blade, which helped until the vernal equinox. Then it was one inch too long. Coriolis!
