so, during this last snow storm, i apparently left my wipers on intermittent. when next i turned the car on, the wipers tried to push through 6 inches of snow, got about 5 inches though their travel and stopped dead--blew the fuse. having cleared off all the snow a few days later, i replaced the fuse, and the wipers work, but not normally.

-their 'stop' point is now where the fuse blew, about 5" up-intermittent is no longer intermittent--it's continuous-'mist' setting is continuous, and never-ending. in order to turn off the wipers after hitting 'mist' you have to turn them on and then off again.

i tried moving the wipers down by hand back to their original starting point. they'll move, but when i start back up again, they resume their 5" up stop position. anybody got any ideas how i can return all this mess to normal? i noticed there are a few cars being parted out at the moment, so maybe i just need to buy a replacement part or two? thanks in advance. randy

I would take the fuse out and try to push it back by hand then.

Sounds like you blew the commutator/brushes, or the regulator/amplifier See page EL89.Try a multimeter on the motor connector where it stops, then where it runs through.

It sounds dumb but... leave the wiper blades off till you cycle the wiper motor. If you think they're in phase -they're not- and you can scratch the he** out of the hood and just stand there and watch it happen (I did it -but not the Q)

Somebody prob has a wiper motor or amplifier cheap.

Did you try tightening the nuts at the base of the wipers first?

When this happens (snow or ice) the motors are usually toasted or close enough. You'll be better off using them as they can be used until you replace the motor.
