windows explorer crashes help

why would i get a 98 se bootdisk and not an xp one?? jw

The xp one sucks, doesnt ahve format.exe on it, and well the 98 se disk is the best one EVER made :). Well by microsoft.

if i make one, exactly how/when will i use it. im still in the setup stages, ive never wiped a hard drive before so im kinda a newbie when it comes to this stuff.

You can put it on an actual floppy disc or a CD, if you have a burner. After that, all you do is put it in the system in question and turn it on. Should result in a Command prompt, from which you can run "format c:" and wipe off your hard disk.

A question fo nab: Will he be able to use format from the Win98 boot disk if he has an NTFS partition? IIRC Windows 98 cannot see those style partitioned drives, so that may complicate things.. I haven't used a Win98 boot disk is a long time..

Ohh good call there. Ok one more premptive step. When u first get ot the command prompt. Type fdisk and press enter. There will be an option to delete partitions. Delete all partitions it lists. Then create a partition, and then create a logical drive on that partition. After thats said and done it will tell you to restart so shut off, leave the disk in, when it comes back to the command prompt, then type format c:. I need to make a disk that has batch files to automaticly do this for people...

ok i figured out how to finally get windows xp reinstalled. i didnt erase my c drive so i still have all the stuff there, just nothing is installed. i think it is reading that my D drive (i have a second hard drive) is my primary drive. how do i go about changing that?? cuz when i try to install programs it wants to install it on my d drive. i also have "windows" folders on both drives now:mad:
