My front passenger seat window has a malfunction and its driving me crazy. The window rolls down just fine but when you roll it completely closed it will automatically open up a quarter way. I have tried to keep my finger on button in the close position and shut off engine and pull the key before removing my finger but it still does it. It sometimes takes about 40 seconds to 2 minutes of pressing the button to close before it remains closed. This happens with buttons on both the driver door window button and the passenger door window button.

Any ideas of what this is? Is it the switch itself?

Sounds like the window "thinks" it is hitting an obstruction and reversing itself, just like a garage door does when it's closing.

Just like a garage door, if it is not adjusted correctly, it will think it needs to travel farther than it does and it will reverse after it hits the ground.

I don't know anything about adjusting the windows or why it would be doing it with both windows, but that's my guess based on my experience working on mechanical stuff.

Is there something in the manual that tells you how to adjust it?

Thanks for the reply.

What you typed makes sense. Unfortunately, when I bought the Pathy a couple of weeks ago it did not include a manual. I will see if I can find one online.

The owner's manual might give you insight on how to reset the auto-up/pinch feature, but these links might prove to be more usefull.

Basically, it is the shop manual. Hope it can help you out. I don't know what if your '01 is and '01 or an '01.5, so included both links for you.

This problem has been discussed many times before, and there is a quick and easy solution. It is not the switch, and you won't find anything in the FSM either. There is a reset button inside the door that you need access to.You'll have to pop up the switch console to get at it. Just use a flat blade screw driver to lift it up.The procedure to reset the window is very simple. I just can't remember it off the top of my head.I'll try and find one of the older posts that outlined the process, and get back to you on it.You can also try the search feature and find it yourself.

I can't believe the problem or the how-to isn't in the FSM. Is it in the owner's manual or is it one of those things that just gets passed from one ownere to the next?

It would appear that it's one of those secrets that gets passed from one owner to another, or across forums like this. The first time it happened to me I asked several service advisers at the dealership what they thought it might be. Not one of them had the solution, and if they did, they kept it to themselves. One adviser just said I should lube the window channels, and it would go away.Yea right.

I just wanted to thank everyone for helping me with this. I was able to pop the switch console and followed instructions step-by-step. It all worked on first try.

The process from start to finish took me 10 seconds.
