I drive a new 09 Rogue (7000km). I have a bug deflector on the hood. At speeds of 80km/h and above, or in windy conditions there's a lot of wind noise in the cab - a fluctuating whistling sound that seems to be coming form the windshield area. The dealer thinks it could be due to the bug deflector, but I have not taken it off to test, but I have playeed around with the vent fan openings and fan speed (did not help).

If that wasn't enough, yesterday I was driving through a cross-wind (blowing perpendicular to the Rogue and hitting the passenger side). In addition to the windshield area wind noise, I heard a very loud wind noise coming from the top rear of the driver's side door. All windows were up and the doors were closed properly. First time I heard wind noise from the driver's door - first time winds that strong were blowing on the road. This was very annoying to say the least. Should not have these blasted problems on a #35k vehicle.

My questions:1) Anyone else experience these problems? What was the fix?2) How likely is the windshield area noise cause by a bad seal due to a poor windshield installation?

I love my Rogue, but the wind noise problems are a real disappointment. Thanks for your help.

Hello nbguy66! Welcome to the NICOClub Rogue Forums!

There are other members who have complained about wind noise from the door and around the windshield area in heavy crosswinds. It has even occurred with my Rogue on very windy days. Honestly, I don't feel there is much that can be done about this. Almost all of the vehicles I have ever driven have exhibited similar problems... Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Ford, VW, the list goes on... There have also been complaints of whistling noises from hood bug deflectors.

I would try to work with your dealer to see if they can try and solve the problem. Let us know if they find a resolution.

I get unusual wind noise too, mine seems to deflect off the side view mirrors going at highway speeds on windy days.

i also get the winds that are coming perpendicular hitting the door.

What are you gonna do ?? I guess you just live with it.

I find the whole car doesn't react well noise wise to wind..its weird.

I've had lots of experience with this, since I live in one of the windiest cities in North America (Lethbridge, Alberta).

I have the hood deflector, and am sure IT IS NOT a wind noise issue, I had all of these issues for over a year prior to installing it, and just trust me by applying the scientific method I was able to eliminate it as a wind noise culprit.

My conclusion after 2 years of tracking the issue (which surprising doesn't bother me that much, as it's not constant, it just occurs when it is windy and specifically when the wind is perpendicular to the vehicle) is that the roof rack main bars cause the major whistling noise (I don't have the cross bars). I don't know of a solution.

Also, occaisionally I get some noise from the drivers door and I haven't diagnosed this one 100% but I suspect the door seal might be at fault. It doesn't happen often so I don't worry about it but the Rogue door seals/weatherstripping is PATHETIC in my opinion, it is the cheapest, weakest rubber material and I just can't belive Nissan cheaped out on this like they did. I'm sure I could rip this material just by pulling with my fingers and I've compared this to a lot of other vehicles and it's not even close to on par.

Also, I've heard others report that they tracked wind noise to the side mirrors, and the dealer removed them, placed foam tape in the gap and reinstalled, and this has eliminated the issue so I'd recommend targeting the side mirrors to eliminate some of yoru noise issues.

I have an 09 Rogue which exhibits the drive-you-nuts wind noise problem. I made an appointment with the service dep't to take it in Friday. The service manager suggested I masking tape the windshield gaskets one at a time to determine the cause of the problem. I did this to no avail. I then masked the driver side window door gasket and the noise went away.

I suspect that the same will be true with the passenger side. When the wind is from that direction the noise has come from that area.

The comment about the quality of those seals/gaskets is well taken..

It's definitely the door windows. When you experience the problem, crack the window a bit and the noise disappears.

Close it and it's fine for a few seconds, then...

I would disagree, I've spent months meticulously diagnosing the wind noise problem it's definately the door seal, see the "wind noise" thread for pics of my fix.

It is such a relief that I've solved the problem, and as side note, there is a TSB for the Altima for the exact same problem in the same area, so perhaps the Rogue will have one soon too.

Unless I'm missing them - where are the pics? I checked the "Wind Noise" thread.
