Alright well i've got a 2010 a/c with stock intake but i was wondering if removing the tubing from the filter box to the grill would do anything. i'm not cheap and trying to make this an "aftermarket" mod, its just that i want that beautiful tune you get from the intake but dont want issues with my warranty. will it sound any deeper/different?????

man lol too much work.. and im guessing most of us here went ahead and bought the aftermarket intake instead of messing with the oems. :gotme why your friend convince you to do it again? did he modify his intake already and had a significant hp gain?

lol- if its any consolation.... when i put my intake in, i LEFT that front diverter in the car. and then when i put my cf hood on, phenom started makin fun of me for havin it on so i took it off lmao. either get an intake for the vacuum sound, or.... dont lol :)

quite honestly- and maybe its just me, but drop a oem K&N in there, grab sum headers, and the car seems faster than with the intake, exhaust combined..... ive been tearin my car a new one the last few days cus of my wrx lmao but this thing is taking quite the beating. i 1000000000% agree w/ nissan durability :D

by oem k&n, you mean the flat filter right, not the cone one? I can't put headers on for a while due to my warranty but i'm trying to do as much as i can

sc20- it does not avoid warranty just by putting aftermarket parts in it. the only way it would void warranty is if something goes wrong with the car and its proven that an aftermarket part is the cause of it.

K&N filters are no bueno for MAF cars.... just FYI

The oil on the filter will "clogged" up the MAF. There is electronic cleaner you can get to clean it once in awhile but why use a K&N??? Best filter you can get IMO is AEM dry.

Do what you are going to do but just stating facts from my expierence.

Your car doesn't actually get air pushed into it, it sucks air in, therefore removing all the intake tubing would in a minor way increase performance

I'm not saying that he should do it, but for the discussions sake, removing restrictions out of the stock intake would in fact increase hp.

No actually it wont..... Removing some of the stock intake piping will actually hurt performance by making the maf read wrong depending on what/where the piping is removed....

nvm bro... not going to waste my time. Think what you want! lol

remove the fogs, lower the air friction

Improving / tuning / customizing nowadays is for every numbnut ... education is f***, so no one tells them in class their ideas are ... well, for lack of a more revealing synonym, idiotic

Dude.....there is so much wrong with your logic

but I'm here to help, first if you were right then a short ram or cold air intake would hurt performance,

Second by removing baffles or tubing from the stock intake you are making it easier for the engine to take in air, which the maf will recognize and in turn will tell the car to increase fuel delivery, resulting in....yes you guessed it, more horsepower

Can I chime in on this? k thx.

Both ideas are great, here is what I think:

1. The Original is correct. The engine does in fact, suck in air.
2. The Original is correct. If you have a restrictive intake, making it less restrictive, will improve air flow.
3. 707cali is correct. Mentioning that depending on what piping you remove it can hurt performance.

Honestly, why is this an issue. If you wish to make an SRI out of the stock intake you need to do the following:

1. Remove the air box.
2. Remove the filter out of the air box.
3. Carefully remove the MAF and set it aside.
4. Cut out the plastic tube with a dremel so you are left with the tube itself with the port for the MAF on it.
5. Put a 3" filter on the end of the tube that the MAF sits in.
6. Hook tube back to the car.

Done.

This, in fact, works. Know why? Because I did it as an experiment before the turbo kit got installed.

Is it a good idea? Kinda, but it's not pretty. It worked fine. Would I do it again? No. lol.
