In physical theory, taking the stock filter out of the stock airbox and adding a cone filter somewhere past it, will produce that resonating intake filter sound you are looking for. It won't hurt it, you won't void anything, but it is a cheap way to create that sound your looking for. If you want to prove it, park your car, disconnect the top of you air box, so there is only the piping leading to an open hole in the top half of the box, opening into the atmosphere, and floor the throttle. Don't do this in a dirty area or on a rainy day, just be smart about it. Oh, and for no reason should you drive your car without and inline filter, if you suck something big in there, your going to grenade your engine.

UPDATE: my car was crashed in to last week.....my entire front end is being replaced and thecover to my air box was cracked. they want to charge me $257 for the cover to the airbox(not the tubing, not the airbox base, not the vent, JUST THE COVER) i find this extremely stupid, so im geting a complete intake system. as of right now ive checked out the k&n typhoon intake which goes for $321. anybody have some other suggestions? im not looking to spend more than $321

I like the heatshield K&N has for theirs better than Injen and others. That'd be my recommendation, SC.

i found a couple good priced ones off ebay ( takeda and injen) around the $225 range but they don't have the heat shields....what do you guys think? i dont want to sacrifice performance over a couple of dollars, does the heath shield really affect the performance? ps. i live in ca where it gets down to 20 in the winter and 110 in the summer. i know thatll play some role in choosing

Oh, wait, you've got the 2.5. Maybe you have more options. The engine bay in the 3.5 is so full that you can't get a real cold-air-intake in there, so the heat-shield is your only hope at getting air that hasn't been warmed by the engine first. I don't know if the 2.5 gives you enough space to get a longer pipe route. Can anybody help me out on this one?

yea theres space but what ive done in the past is put a different metal plate where the battery sits down to a shorter one. it will make room for a cold air intake. i got a picture of it from last year but i need a computer to upload it (logged in my phone)

i dont have a heat shield on my short ram intake and in the summer time it really sucks to drive around here. sort of like if you got a lag taking off from first gear.
anyone have a heat shield to add onto this?

The injen does have a heat sheild, Doesn't it? I have a k&n and injen I'm watching on ebay from clubmustkara both priced below other stores. I'm pretty sure the description shows the injen with a heat sheild.

i should have been clearer in my former posts. im thinking of the heatshield as the black shield the k&n intakes come with. The injen intakes ive seen DO have a ?heath shield? but it doesnt look like it serves a purpose. it doesnt even cover half which is making me doubt it. ive heard it and it sounds bad a**, but it gets pretty damn hot here in southern california and im iffy about the whole heat shield thing

Good to know. I am leaning heavy toward the typhoon. Either that or just replace the stock filter with k&n??? Sucks about your car gettin crashed into. Mine got hit in a parking lot a few weeks back and the door has to be fixed. Can't have nothin nice.

yea im leaning towards the typhoon as well, even though its not street legal in ca. im not too upset about the car crash....NOW. the insurance company sent me a check and with the leftover money im gunna be getting an intake, maybe some led taillights, and im going to add some subs to get the bass thumpin. the dodge charger r/t rental car isnt too bad either.....especially because i dont have to pay for it haha :bigthumb:

to be honest idk if it would help out with the heat shield on but i think its the same thing without it. when its summer time around here, youre going to suck in hot air reguardless so it wont help at all.

Do u have a particular website? Ive checked the websites of those intake makers and none of them show that they have intakes for the 2.5
