Hi,

just wanted to get 2nd opinion. i am thinking of gettin 18x9.5 5 zigens fno1rc. I happen to see 18" MB Weapons and they look nice. I will use my S14 for daily driving and autocross on weekens. has anybody know the weight of 18x9+15 MB Weapons. Has anybody used this wheels for any kind of racing? 5 zigens have the reputation already as a racing rim so no questions about it. Where are MB made from? Please advise.

Thanks

get the weapons. theyre sick. end of story.

tracking or not, even if theyre a little heavier than fn01s, make more power to get 'em rollin.

Both are nice, but I think the 5Zigens look better on S13's and the MB Weapons look better on S14's, IMHO of course.

I'm sorry. Function trumps debatable looks, IMO.... FN's FTW.

MB weapons, 18x9 are 23.5 pounds per rim.

18x9.5 FN01's are 23 pounds per rim.

big friggin whoop, an extra 2 pounds of unsprung weight for the trade-off of a badass looking 240 instead of a mediocre FN01 240sx.

come on.

Really? I thought they were alot lighter. Then again, I've never bothered looking into sizes that big. I guess, comparatively, wheels like the Elites aren't so bad after all...

If it still just comes down to looks, I still pick the FN's. I'm a sucker for 5 spokes. They may be played out when you look around online, but I have yet to see anyone around town with them on...

id definitely prefer weapons though.

OP, its up to you. i threw down the weights of each. if you wanna throw in any more options into your decision, i gave you the link to look through and find any other wheels you might want to know the weight of.

< 1 vote for weapons.

Nico, i havent looked at any prices, but from what ive heard from random forums here, theyre pretty reasonably priced for their sizes/offsets/styles. not bad. i dont really look for prices though since im a four-lugger.

simmode, im not sure about that weight. seeing how the site i posted is a site ONLY as a database for wheel weights, they dont have any reason to fib a little on how much they weigh. not sure though.

sounds like we'll have to find more sources to figure it out.

I dislike MB wheels, I am a mechanic for Tires Plus, I see 3 or 4 sets of MBs come in per week. I have yet to see a car with MB wheels, without at least one bent one. They are soft, if you plan on auto Xing or track time, get the FN01-RCs

FlatBlack-where in MN are you from and/or work. I'm looking to pick up wheels within the next week or so and would be appreciative if I could come talk to an actual owner vs. some dude at discount tire. heh

5zigen used to make a forged model of the fns. They were designated as FN01R-F and the ones only sold now are the FN01R-C (cast). The forged ones were super light but cost twice as much if not more and looked identical. They were one of my dream wheels due to the weight, but they stopped making them. I guess fashion outweighed function for buyers although cast fn's are not to shabby in the weight department.

I currently have set of both for my track S14. I prefer the look ,sizing, and price of the Weapons over the wieght of the Fn's.

The MB's just had 3 pros and only 1 con. the decision is yours to make, you will have to live with it.

Both wheels are very nice, price just played a large factor when having to buy multiple sets

just curious, do you feel the pattern of damage you have noticed with the Weapons is directly related to the alloy of the wheel? or could it be due to massive operator(s) error? also, what is your gauge for 'soft'? i respect your opinion, i am just looking for a little more background info.

thanks,kevin

Most of what I see is pothole damage, I had a close friend get a set of MB shifters for his Audi, he showed up at my shop a week later complaining of vibration, a quick balance showed that all 4 wheels were out of round on the inside of the barrel to some extent or another. He said he hadn't hit any potholes. I can honestly say out of the 50 or so sets of MBs I have seen, I have yet to see a set without at least one bent wheel. My observations tell me that the inner rim of the barrel doesn't have enough metal, or the metal there isn't quite stiff enough, therefore it bends too easily.

I have friends who work for Discount tire as well, they tell me that they warranty out MBs on a very regular basis due to bent barrels, this only supports my theory.

I love it. It really shored up the front end, I recently added some sticky tires, my sway bars are now so overtaxed its funny.
