Will a KA go in a Camry?

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

I know this sounds kind of stupid but . . ..

I'm having trouble locating a used or rebuilt engine for a 4 cylinder '98 camry at a reasonable price. Does anyone think I can put a KA or '89 Pulsar engine into a Camry?

What parts can I keep from the camry? transmission, ecu, the distributorless fuel injection?

I've never seen firsthand what the DE version engine looks like; will the intake and exhaust manifold match up? Are there "standard" shapes and sizes for engines?

Anything CAN be done, its just not logical to do so.

Find a better yard to locate you one. The Camry motors are getting pricey because they are getting harder to find, but they ARE out there, you just may have to get one from out of state.

Or are you having trouble locating one at a price your willing to pay? In Fla they are bringing from 1200-1800 bux depending on mileage.

The camry is really my brother's and he doesn't have much money. While I'm willing to help him, there are limits to one's generousity. He has a Pulsar engine, so that would be free if it would work. I was just thinking that since so many people swap out their KA engines, that I could get one for a thousand less than a camry engine. Even though everyone values their time differently, would it be more or less than a thousand dollars worth of time/effort to do this over a normal engine swap?

Well the KA24DE from a 240sx is going to be for rwd, you'd probably want an engine from the sentra, altima or maxima family because they're all fwd like the camry. Would just make it a little easier.

wouldn't it be more expensive to put a ka engine in a carmy? wouldn't it not fit and you'd prolly have to make custom mounts for the engine/transmission, then you have to wire everything up, then you need a cluster to read the stuff right.its not usual for an engine from 1 brand to just drop in on another brand of car.

Making do w/ whats laying around was much easier before ECUs and other fun stuff. LOL!

I just dont see it being an easy or worthwhile swap. By the time you even get the motor and transmission in the hole youll be worn out, then youll need some kind of bastard CVs to go from the Nissan transmission to the Yota hubs at whatever length they come out to needing to be, THEN all the electonic gremlins youll encounter.

In the end IMO all youll end up w/ is a ruined Camry that still doesnt run.

So this is different from the sr and rb that people swap into the 240 because by sticking with nissan, you get reasonably same engine mounts and intake/exhaust manifolds?
