Lawyer? If you can't afford one at least go to court, get it reduced.

Pretty impressive amount over the limit though...they didn't impound your car? In NJ if you go double over they impound it.

From every thing I've seen lately New jersey must suck for owning cars. That whole visual inspection and other stuff.

92 mph! You rock! Get a lawyer! Get a lawyer! GET A LAWYER! Or you will get broke down like a shot gun.

Your not an idiot for getting the ticket, but you will be one if you go to court with out a lawyer.

I will laugh when you blow your SR soon since you drive it so hard. I am already laughing at your stupidity, I'm glad you got the ticket maybe you will wake up now. Why even go to court? You have no case, pay the fine. Btw, your insurace WILL find out about this no matter what and your rates WILL go up. Sorry but the cops aren't the only one that punish you when you get a ticket, insurance will too.

I guess im the only slow driver on this board, Im the guy who sets the cruise at the speed limit and just cruises that speed the whole time, never break the limit, man, im soo paranoid about getting a speeding ticket, its just not worth it to speed and get there 5 minutes faster and a chance at gettin hit with a big *** ticket.

here is what you do

get a court date and try to fight the ticket, when you try to fight a ticket, the cop has to show up, or it gets deleted, you pay nothing and nothing goes on the record

i think that there is a 85% chance that cops do not show up when the ticket is being fought.

but just in case, get a court date extension, 2 days before your court date, the cop might not hear about the new date, or might just forget about it. then you get off with out a hitch.

but if he does show up, ask him lots and lots of questions about all the little details of that night. like what kind of clothes you wore, if he calibrated the gun properly, where he clocked you, where you finally pulled over and other small details.

if you can prove that he doesnt remember everything, the judge might lean you way and delete the ticket.

btw did you admit the speed you were going? if you never did, then you will be better off, but if you said you were, then it will be harder to win if the cop shows up.

That is a myth. I've contested 2 tickets and no judge cares if the officer shows up or not.

i think that there is a 85% chance that cops do not show up when the ticket is being fought.

There is an actual statistic on when cops show up to court hearings or not? rofl!

but if he does show up, ask him lots and lots of questions about all the little details of that night. like what kind of clothes you wore, if he calibrated the gun properly, where he clocked you, where you finally pulled over and other small details.

What clothes you wear is irrelevant to the fact you had your foot slammed on the gas and you were going 2 times the legal speed limit...

if you can prove that he doesnt remember everything, the judge might lean you way and delete the ticket.

At the speed implicit was going the judge is going to laugh at you for being stupid, a retard, and an idiot.

btw did you admit the speed you were going? if you never did, then you will be better off, but if you said you were, then it will be harder to win if the cop shows up.

Again at the speed he was going regardless if it was 88, 89, 90, 91, OR 92 mph...it's still WAY over the limit and the judge will not care.

State laws vary, but the cop signs off on the ticket "under penalty of perjury"(the willful telling of a lie under oath)

The judge will look you in the eye and tell you that the cop has signed his report "under penalty of perjury" and will then ask you if you <really> believe the cop would risk his career to give you a speeding ticket.

Cops don't have to be there in person.

Fools try and trick the cops. Good luck with that. Sensible citizens politely ask for a reduction, or a deal to pay the fine in full, and have the ticket removed from your record.

Just so we all know, traffic court judges are familiar with the cops. When you attack the credibility of the cop, over a traffic violation, you're not going to swing the judge's decision. Think I'm wrong? Go sit and observe traffic court for an hour or two. Present a truthful explanation. These guys see young kids every day. Ask for lenience, and you might get it. Try and match wits with career lawmen, and you'll fail..miserably.

bah, tickets happen, no biggie. One time after my mom got her Impala SS (the good one from 96) she was driving around and got a ticket for 88 in a 40. My step dad recently got a ticket in his 10 second 55 Bel-Air for "exhibition of speed" and I got a ticket for Racing back in may (I wasnt racing, just watching) and then another ticket about a month ago for 45 in a 35 zone.

Sh*t happens...

hey try this, pay the fine by check and mail it in. here's the catch, you pay about 2-7 dollars over the amount. the state will send you a refund check for the amount over paid. Do not cash it. If you do it goes on your record, if you don't it's still open and the state can't close the file. Good luck. btw it works here. ( try it before you dis' it!!!!!)

It's really not that bad, you just can't drive recklessly here and survive for very long. It's a Darwinian kind of place.

They have that speed law (impounding for 2x the speed limit) for good reason. New Jersey is too small of a state with too many people and too many cars, and if you're doing 92 in a 45, you are very likely to cause a multi-car accident with multiple fatalities. Even if you are a "skilled" driver. There are just too many variables in a crowded traffic corrider like NJ.

The visual inspection isn't the same as Cali's. They aren't looking for smog equipment, they're looking to make sure you don't have any obvious safety-related issues under the hood (like fuel dripping near an exhaust pipe, antifreeze blowing from the radiator, etc.) They don't perform it on every vehicle, either. It's easy enough to bypass if you're worried about it....just get it inspected privately, the cure for all inspection woes.

Tickets are a cost of driving, just like gas and insurance. However, that was pretty reckless (although I have you beat...110 in a 40, no ticket...but I'm lucky, also I was 16 = stupid) just pay the ticket and move on, you will get NOWHERE contesting that, but you might get a reduction if you ask really nicely and are very polite. Or try the mail it in thing, It's what i will probably do with my next ticket, just to see if it works :)

also 280 isnt that bad compared to what we jersey people got to pay. if you cant afford a lawyer assuming cuz your still a high school kid or college kid, talk to the prosecutor before you go to the court. 10 min before the court time, there will be a line of people waitin to plead with the prosecutor to lower the points/fine. If you got a friend or friend of a friend thats a cop, bring him along.. it helps. I got a DA to drive down to the court to tell the prosecutor that i was a good kid and was going to college so dont got lots of money. prosecutor dropped all points and made me just pay court fees.

I've only gotten one ticket in my life...it was a four-pointer (reckless driving, long story). I went to the Princeton courthouse and waited forever, like 2.5 hours, for the judge to call my name. The whole time I was sitting there nervously, listening to the pompous judge blasting people left and right. Finally, the DA called my name (one of the last on the list.) The court was nearly empty at that point. He apologized for making me wait so long and offered me a reduced ticket. I meekly accepted, pleaded guilty before the judge, paid an $80 court fee in cash and left with zero points.

It's better to "roll with" the system then try to fight it, just showing up to court and being respectful will usually get you off much easier.

that might only work if its your first ticket.. or if your extremly lucky.. like with your case... chances are if your name was at the beggining of the list.. u would have left w/ 4 points and hundreds in fines... talking to the procesuter is the best option.. u have to pretty much sell ur story in like a minute.. not making it to ridicolous either.. but from what i've experienced and heard almost always they drop it somehow.. then if you leave w/ any points take a defensive driving course... tho in jersey the insurance rips u a new hole w/ the points....

heard about the paying extra tip before.. but i doubt that can work... they can't be so stupid.. or well more then they already are..

Sincerity and tact will get you further than being some punk who thinks he knows something, and I don't just mean in traffic court. You were the schmuck who was doing 2+ times the speed limit, suck it up and accept your resposibility as a licensed driver or forfeit that right, it only makes sense...Good luck with the ticket though, seriously. Hopefully the judge is having a good day. :)
