The irony is, not all that many people have SRs, CAs, or KA-Ts....

Plus, unless you can afford a new idea, its fun to kick around, but no one knows anything about it. Lots of people can discuss SRs, CAs, and KA-Ts. : )

heres one of my many strange and impossible ideas for you :pface

you take whatever motor you have now and you switch from efi to carburetors (i know this can be down with the 4age motors in such cars as the ae86 where they run dual mikuni carbs rather than efi). from there you find propane carburator or natural gas (liquid petroleum gas) carbuerators to fit on your car, safety shutoff, water-heated vaporizer, regulator, and a special fuel fiter. if you haven't figured it out by now we are converting our car to run on propane or natural gas (liquid petroleum gas).

well since are being crazy lets take it step further and say that someone's propane inection (fuel injection for modern cars only using propane) has finished....yes this is actually being researched. so we use that or the other setup.

on the internet there is a first gen rx7 with a propane conversion.

propane is quoted at 104 octane rating and natural gas (lpg) is quoted at 120. you would have to of course eventually get your valves fixed / redone since they will have a tendency to wear and recede into the heads. you would have to have hard-stellite or equal seats and have a good concentric valve job done.

propane has a lower energy (by volume, not by weight) and lower volatility than gasoline. thus meaning you will have a slight loss of power. on the other hand you will be able to boost farther than you could with race gas or whatever crap you are running now.

s-a designs guide to turbocharging states the following "it's especially suitable for inline engines because the propane smooths out alot of the inherent vibrations. four-bangers run like rotaries and sixes at idle feel like pre-emissions v8's." the effect on whatever engine your running know would be god knows what.

with the cost of propane being cheaper then gasoline this is good. you get higher octane fuel at a cheaper price then 89 grade gasoline. you will also have a car that has very low emissions. so you can drive your car in your anal states and also have the good warm fuzzy feeling inside knowing that you are taking 1 step to helping the earth (YAY!!!!! :ylsuper )

"because it is a gas when it reaches your engine, it mixes readily with air and causes none of the usual vaporization or mixture problems we normally associate with carbureted gasoline engines. there is no liquid to break up into air-born particles, no wet-fuel seperation inside the manifold or ports, no vapor lock, and since we're talking about a closed system there is no vapor loss to the atmosphete through float bowl vents. another important benefit of the fuel is that carbon despoits don't form in your engine because of the more complete and even combustion. consequently, there is very little engine wear caused by residual abrasives, and no "washdown" of the cylinder wall as there is with gasoline. the engine oil doesn't get thinner as you drive it, it gets slightly thicket and stays clean two or three times longer than it would in a gas engine. additionally the spark plugs will last much longer" - S-A DESIGNS GUIDE TO TURBOCHARGING - PAGE 29.

i've been playing with this idea for a week or so and found it very interesting. i was discouraged when i found out that it would only work with carbuereted cars but there are research on propane injection for cars.....but consequently because its being researched doesn't mean that it will be available to 240SX or any import. it will more than likely appear on new ford cars which i have been reading about.

i will continue looking into this as well as other strange ideas i come up with such as what would be used for injection instead of water, what solutions could be sprayed on the intercooler to cool charge besides nitrous-oxide....currently i looked into acetone for the hell of it. i plan to look into methane (human crap and other things) powered applications. im pretty sure you could make a car run off of human crap but would need once again, a special carbuetor. somesort of jet/turbine engine into a car....whatever floats my boat. those are all pen and paper ideas to keep me doing something and not fall into a pit of boredom....i dont have the money, engines, materials, whatever to do those insane experiments but i wish i did...hell i dont even have my learners permit yet.

i hope this 16 year old gave you a "diffrent engine" idea to play with :D

One of my co-workers had a girlfriend (now ex-) who's father worked for a propane company. They got propane for mad cheap prices so they converted her Chevy Blazer to run on it. It's certainly possible . . . but I never thought it would have this many benefits in a performance application. I've also heard of a couple of 60's Camaros and Vettes that have more recently been converted to use natural-gas.

That's a very good idea; I wish I had time and knowledge to pursue it . . . but being that this is my first engine swap . . . I think I'll K.I.S.S. it to my to-do-someday-in-the-distant-future list. ^ ^

Daunt's right. Everybody talking **** about this and that and all they have are a set of APC STBs. WTF???? I would like to know how many people have actually seen a SR20DET? Or touched one? Let alone swaped one.... :sleep
