Of course if Nissan puts a CVT into either possible new S-class or Z, it'll be "code brown". :chuckle:

It's not a dealbreaker... Mazda is actually ahead of the curve on this, so the new Mazda 6 is a good example of what we'll be seeing in front end designs for a while.

You bring up a very good point, bossman. I will reserve judgement until I see the finished product in person.

If I see a personal injury attorney tomorrow, he/she is getting kicked in the side of the head. :(
It's hard to see how you can make a sports car more wall shaped than the front of the modern Z's, IMO.

Well, if it never decided if it wanted to be a minivan or a sports car, like the juke, I guess..... maybe the Z will become a special edition juke? :rotfl

*edit* looking at pictures, I don't see it now, but Z's always look so blunt-nosed when I see them in real life? :gotme (not in a bad way, but in a way that should NOT be increased)

Bump. So my buddy just got a NISMO Juke.

There's an SCCA race this weekend, and he can't compete in it. Why? Because the overall height of the vehicle is greater than the track width, so SCCA wont allow it on their tracks (roll-prone).
Moral of the story? Juke does not fill this spot.

Ironically, he's just dusting off his old 240 to race that instead. But yeah, pretty pissed.

He should write nissan to describe his level of pissed, and his use of the 240 instead.

Read it and weep Nissan. The SCCA welcomes my pickup truck but the Juke is a no-no. Sports car my a**. My Hardbody is sportier.

Dear Consumer,
You bought a lowered mom-mobile with an ironic badge on it. In short, enjoy your commuter vehicle.

V/R,
Nissan

But no, seriously, that is a bummer. The Fiat 500 suffered the same fate. Abarth is now allowed, but it took some poking and prodding to get it to happen. In the end, the car got classed, and wound up to be a big waste of time because it was severely uncompetitive, even in the hands of a multi-time national champion.

Yeah one of them showed up at carlisle (not sure if it was Abarth or not), but it was wildly noncompetitive.

Roll-center is severely jacked up in those cars. Only thing thats nice about them is the wheelbase. I drove one at a school, then told the guy "you're either going to go slow and keep your car, or be fast and upside-down".

...and it STILL has the Nissan-patented non-linear throttle response that impresses people on test drives, but sucks for the remainder of the ownership experience.

I'm no mathematician (hell, I can't even spell it right), but 10% pedal travel should equal 10% on the TPS. 50% of pedal should be 50% on the TPS. Pedal-to-the-metal should be 100% of TPS.

Whoever has been responsible for this since at least 2003 should be summarily fired. Today. I sold my beloved 2003 G35 Coupe JUST because of the disconnect between pedal travel and accelerator modulation. Ten years later, throttle tip-in is still wackadoodle, and there's no difference between 75% pedal and WOT.

I've read about that, but never experienced it. Not sure I really want/need to either. I wonder why there is no direct correlation between peddle input and throttle modulation? What was the point/goal behind doing this?

The idea is that it makes the car "feel" a lot faster than it is in normal driving situations. Non-racing type people will probably never notice that the difference between 75% and 100% throttle is non-existent.

What if they're just playing dumb, and this whole time, they've been developing an awesome, non-ugly, no CVT, no-nanny, FR-S killer?

I blame the French. They hate us so why wouldn't they torture us and let us suffer. And since when do the French know or even comprehend what Americans want?

Since when did the japanese, when they decided that americans couldn't possibly want turbos in their s-chassis?

Truth be told, Nissan is a much larger company than Renault, and actually controls them more than they control us.

I presume the last time was because Nissan preferred us Americans to spend a lot more on their much higher margin 300ZX.

If you develop a great reputation and sell a lot more lower marign units, you still make more money, both at the time and in the long run.

At least they brought us the s-chassis. It might have been turbo-less but we weren't sitting here watching 'this space'.
