Why get a RB20 over a SR20 when they have the same displacement?

I'm not going to get either engine...i'm just wondering. Besides the bling factor, is theres any advantage of the RB? I know that the sr20 bolts in easier and parts are easier to find. i dont see any reason to get a RB20.

please enlighten me

RB20 is an I6, SR20 is an I4... you get 2 more cylinders. I believe RB's are easier to build up to rev higher as well, though I have no proof to back this up :)

RB20 has a cast iron blockSR20 has aluminum block...

one of my main reasons for going that route...rather than the SR20 (although I could stick with the KA and still have an iron block)

The RB is just a superior engine...

Also, The RB is cheaper... 2,800 for front clip with mounts and driveshaft compared to the SR which like 3,300 for just an engine...

(Disclaimer: Those prices are averages for what I have seen around the internet. They are not 100%, just deal with it...)

I've read and seen lots of sr pulling big hp numbers and like the motor enough to buy one, but I'm kinda curious to see how well the rb20 performs. I do like the idea of a high revving turbo motor thats bulletproof tho.

RB's will put up just as high or higher number as SR.

Oh I'm sure they do its just that the sr is more common than the rb, at least in my neck of the woods.

more cylinders should equal more smoothness too. That is the one of the main advantages of adding cylinders to a vehicle.

When all is said and done, tuning is what makes a motor bulletproof.

I'd like to see a SR do that with only the mods the RB has... not going to happen!

the two extra cylinders in and of themselves adds to smoothness...however the differences between the RB and SR engines are way more than a story of two cylinders.

Both are excellent choices, it really depends what you are trying to accomplish. I am willing to bet many that dump money into SR swaps would have been better off with putting the money elsewhere in their cars.

Many think they'd love a '10 sec' car, but many more have not one clue how a car like that is to really drive everyday + the added maintenance and rebuilding running fast quarters will have on a vehicle if used like that regularly.

More exhaust pulses per RPMs allowing for a smoother running engine and slightly quicker turbo spool. An inline six is probably the smoothest engine out there, short of maybe a V12, which is 2 inline 6's...it's just the harmonics of the engine design.

But still, go SR. If you have a Zylvia, all the kids will envy you.

Sorry to point this out, but your totally wrong in every aspect of your post.

Anyone who thinks the SR block is weak just doesnt know what the hell they are talking about. If you want when I get home I can scan a article with a 800rwhp SR with a stock aluminum block. Next time anyone on this forum even owns any car with 800rwhp please let me know.

Stock vs stock: the RB20 makes more horsepower, the SR20 makes more torque.

RB20's are like 200-250 less than SR's, but aftermarket parts are way more expensive in the US for any RB motor.

Both are cool, both have certain advantages, pick what you want.

EARTH TO PILLS, THE RB25 AND RB20 REALLY DONT HAVE MUCH IN COMMON. I think you can swap the cranks and oilpan, maybe some various gaskets, thats about it.

For example, the RB20E is in the RB family, but its a turd of a motor.

since the sr has gotten so popular, people do ka-t and rb swaps to be differant. down the road more people are going to think the same way. by the time you build up that "unique" feeling in your heart, you will realize that everyone else is doing the same engine swap as you. youll be differant, just like everyone else ;]. in my opinion the best way to build your car is to pretend like no one else in the world owns a 240, and build it the way it will suit your needs/preferences best. screw what everyone else thinks, do what will be the most beneficial for you in the end.

OHH MY GOD NOT ANOTHER ONE......

THE SR AND RB ARGUEMENT IS ENDLESS AND IS ONLY DETERMIND BY PREFERENCE.

THE SR20 IS AN ALL ALUMINUM I4THE RB20 IS ALUMINUM HEAD IRON BLOCK I6

I6 AND V12'S ARE THE SMOOTHEST ENGINESSR20 HAS TONS OF AFTERMARKET SUPPORTTHE RB20 HAS MORE POWER AND TORQUE STOCK FOR STOCK, DON'T BELIEVE ME DYNO A RB20. THE RB20 IS MEASURED SAE SO ITS POWER FIGURE IS TAKEN WITH ALL ACCESORIES ON AND RUNNING AT THE OUTPUT SHAFT OF THE TRANS MISSION. ALL THE RB'S HAVE THINGS IN COMMON. THE RB25 AND THE RB20 SHARE LOST OF PARTS LIKE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS, OIL AND WATER PUMPS, COIL PACKS, ETC. YOU CAN TAKE RB25 CAMS AND USE THEM IN RB20'S AND SO ON.HAVING 6 CYLINDERS TO SPOOL A TURBO IS ALWAYS GOING TO BE GREATER THAN 4 NO MATTER THE DISPLACEMENT DIFFERENCE. 6 PULSES > 4 PULSES.THE RB'S RESPOND ALOT BETTER TO SIMPLE MODIFICATIONS THAN SRS.THE INITIAL COST OF A RB TO SR IS CHEAPER FOR THE RB20.THE SR CAN PRODUCE REALLY HIGH NUMBERS AS CAN THE RB20.THESE MOTORS ARE BOTH GREAT AND THEY ARE PERSONAL PREFERENCE, YOU JUST NEED TO FIND WHAT WORKS FOR YOU.

FYI: IF I WOULD OF HAD A KA24DE I WOULD HAVE JUST TURBO'D THAT INSTEAD OF THE RB..... BUT I WOULDN'T CHANGE MY RB20 FOR ANYTHING, I LOVE IT.

THE GREATNESS OF IRON BLOCK OVER ALUMINUM IS THE ABILITY TO OVER BORE THE CYLINDERS WITHOUT WEAKENING THE SOLIDITY OF THE METAL. ALUMINUM BLOCKS ARE TREATED AND COATED AND IF YOU SHAVE THAT COATING OFF THE ALUMINUM IS CONSIDERABLY WEAKER.

Thank you. Now I don't have to say it.

I'm also sick of people who hate a particular motor because it's the popular thing to get. All C5 Corvettes come with an LS1 in it. I hate the LS1 since every freaking C5 vette has them! I can't wait to get the C6, then i'll be all l347 with my LS2. Nobody will have that....for a while. Anyone who hates a motor or a car because it's popular needs to go bash their head in with a very large blunt object.

I bought my car with the SR already in it, so I never had the choice of "what engine do I want?" But I'm also sick of taking flak because of that engine. It's asanine to hate on an engine. In the end, they're all Nissans, and they rock.

I love the argument that says "I hate SR's because everyone has them." I hate 240's because it seems that everyone on here has them- oh, wait!:D

THIS ARGUEMENT IS STUPID BECAUSE ITS PERSONAL PREFERENCE. THATS LIKE SAYING THE SILVIA FRONTEND S BETTER THAN THE 180SX ONE.
