I am not on the ban wagon of hating on Honda's and i don't really understand why people do? I think its ricers that own Honda's, not the honda's them selves..... I had a honda and it was a nice fast car (S2000), i have friends that have had nice honda's and my buddies little brother has what is my favorite out of all our cars because its the biggest sleeper - 98' Honda Civic coupe DX with JDM H22 vtec CAI, Header, Test Pipe, Exhaust, Short Shifter, and LSD with nothing done cosmetic except some nice wheels (gun metal w/ polished lip). That car hangs with my Z extremely well for what you see with the naked eye! I think i got 2 cars from 10mph-100mph..... Thats a quick little civic!

Anyway, go ahead and explain the reasons you "hate" honda's (ricers) and maybe some funny pics would be of help.... I personally only hate one car..... NEON's !!!! you could have a 500whp SRT-4 and its still a neon = gay!

This is not meant to offend...just provoke thought.:

Feel free to erase this if you choose...I just noticed that you are a moderator and I am not into embarrassing anyone.:

That, my friend, may have been one of the more hippocritical things I have read in a while. It seems narrow minded to be as those who you chastise for being narrow minded.

I would usually never post for the first time in an inflammatory manner as this, but I feel, in this instance, that i must.

My last car was a nice altima 3.5 se, but before that I owned a bad *** "Neon", which would have slapped the silly grin right off yours and the honda that almost hung with ya's. Ate SVT's and many others for lunch.

The SRT-4 - gay car - as you like to call it - is the fastest front drive car ever produced. Clean units are trading for over 18,000 for an example 4 years old when it sold for 21,000 new. You can have a 350z at a dealer for the same...Now...as a POS "gay" car I find it kind of funny how it holds it's value much more than a "manly" 350z which went for 10,000 more new.

I now own a 350z and would say that it is a great car...I love driving it...and am excited to pe a part of the 350z community. But I would certainly not bash such a value packed racer as the srt-4.

I think you should look in the mirror and realize that the 350z that you drive is much more "rice", being from Japan, than an American dodge. Even better...let's shut down that term all together...it's passe.

I don't hate on anyone - except those that hate on others...try to be more open minded...it will hurt less when one of those "gay" neons hands you yours.

-Peace

reasons why I hate hondas...

Interiors in hondas personally I HATE! I actually love like EK hatches, idk why but they look good. I even used to love preludes for some reason.

Most hondas people get and think they are race cars but in all reality they are ****ty economy cars. At least my S13 came with 4 wheel disc brakes instead of 8" front rotors and a ****ing drum in the back. I hate the fact that people go and try to make them "fast" but they have crap stopping power.

A few weeks back there was a civic hatch that clearly had a built NA motor. It sounded cool and the car was cllleeeeaaaannn. I actually liked it. But. The guy was a cocky azz twit and wanted to race me for money. Im just like, are you serious??? this isnt the fast and furious man. Anyways. We went at it first and second but didnt have room to get into third I was infront of him the whole time. Thats with a stock SR running 12psi. If we woulda been all the way through 2nd and through 3rd it woulda been like I wasnt even racing.

So yeah. I guess I hate the majority cause alot of um are retards. Just like I cant stand alot of 240 drivers cause they "drift" but have cars that are just junk piles.

Oh, and BTW. I cant stand SRT4s cause those cars are ugly as ****. I do like the fact that they are a pretty powerfull factory turbo motor. Its funny PT cruisers share the same motor. If dodge had a small sporty rwd car with that motor in it id allmost concider buying one.

I agree srt4s are ugly...

And so what if the 350z comes with more rice then a american dodge. the z is just straight sexy. the srt4 has no style...

and its the fastest front driven car ever produced? who wants a fast front driven car?

I thought dodges were pretty unreliable? i know this guy that has a dodge challenger and he never drives it. Since he bought it in early 07 hes taken it to the shop 12 times. Now it has 12k miles and he drives it once a month.

The 350z being rice was meant to illustrate a point about the term rice being inappropriate in general...sorry if you misunderstood. I love my nissan and think that it is extremely attractive and much sexier than my old dodge.

My feeling on rice is that I eat it all the time and it is a great base for absorbing flavor - but I never understood what it had to do with cars. Some racist punk in a car laden no doubt with a big v-8 who harbors negative feelings from a bombing that occurred over 60 years ago probably made the association and thought he was intelligent.

Whether or not you think the srt is pretty or manly, or attractive, they are extremely reliable. Besides having straight cut gears for durability and powerhandling on the transmission side, they have cracked rods, and a host of other things that make it a stout iron block based powerplant that can really handle pressure.

Finally and more on the point I will add that I would wager that most saying that they don't like the srt-4 haven't driven it...All should try before they judge. The thing is a riot to drive. I have tracked them at pocono raceway and watkins glen among others, and you wouldn't believe the way that the srt can hang with m3's that we race competitively on the road course. It is a different drive, being front oriented, but not a bad drive at all...more brutish the way you hammer the gas..but so much fun...many m3 drivers ate their words about the car not being worth merit after trying it themselves. At the strip it holds its own too - and has easily beaten many cars that lined up.

So we have a neon that can hang with just about anything that you can reasonably throw at it in a straight line or turn. Including the 350 z. I still think that is impressive...ugly or not.

All that I have said comes after driving and riding in challenge stradales, vipers, de tomasos, enzos, rx-7's, m3 club cars, 70's 911rs's, and many others...so it is not the opinion of some kid or boy racer. Seriously - the attraction to the srt-4 occurs, in general, after taking the helm...try it and you will understand.

Personally, I would love a great rear drive sports car (have it), a great front drive sports car (had it and will again), and a great 4 wheel drive sports car (will acquire it) to switch between...each has its fun points. Mastering them all in all track situations is a great time and an interesting challenge. One of my goals is to have all in my stable.

I will not delete this, this is actually why i posted it, to receive many opinions. Honestly the main thing is the "neon" crowd where i live.... so you are right i was hypercritical in that statement, but for your sake in calling me on it, i will not change a thing.....

Thanks for your response-Ryan

Yeah that thing is so riced out, he has gauges for boost? to read vacuum i guess, i know the kid and he is one of the few "neon" f*** around. He has been talking about a 2.4 swap for about 5 years now...... He's one of those kind....

at the tag - LILVIPR - that IS funny. I think that is just great! I know a few of those kids myself. There was a kid down the street that used to go nutz reving his r/t trying to get me to show him the real deal - he used to talk about his "swap" all the time too, and the r/t looked like the blue one you showed only in black.

And thank you for taking the post the way it was intended...it shows a maturity that I didn't expect on a forum...kind of was expecting ban sticks. Maybe there is difference between car owners here and on the SRT-4 forums. I would like to see that too... I'm definitely looking forward to being a member here now.

and rmezz13... if you haven't driven one stock or modded - try it sometime...even looking like a skittle, that car is a blast. Stock is real fun to drive...stage 2 and toys with support and lightweight wheels and high octane mode is a scream...pulled harder in the top of third and fourth than you would ever expect.

Again,,,thank you for taking the attitude you chose...you grew a little respect from this guy .

'preciate that, Ryan.

I just looked at that r/t again - it really is horrid....I especially like the louvered rear windows...Now - on hating hondas - I think it has something to do with the fart cans barking their superiority around the street (there are tons of those by my work) who have nothing to back it up. The kind of drivers that c*** their hat sideways and wear hipster pants and smirk like they will walk all over your obviously faster car because they have an intake and an exhaust. I have even seen guys drill holes in their mufflers thinking it will make them faster. Louder is not equivalent to faster, lol.

Personally, I love hondas, but could never drive one again. The civic introduced me to tuning, and it does this for many. It did handle well, and was a fun car to drive and personalize on a budget. The torque free nature of those cars make them an impossibility after driving a turbo'ed srt-4, and 2 vq35's...I need the twist now. I can extract the power from a honda and doing so is a entertaining challenge, but day to day - the grunt of a torque laden car is just too addictive to quit.

It looks like the neon was designed by a german doughnut maker who sniffs acid as a hobby. WOW dodge needs to rethink their whole design division.

It's difficult for me to say... I don't hate Honda's because I know of their true potential at the same time I don't love them because some people have riced them out so bad that it has left a bad taste in my mouth. Personally I have two buddies that have extremely nice Honda's that I could only wish were mine. One Supercharged S2000 w/ too many upgrades to list. And a Civic hatch pushing over 500hp at the wheels that hasn't even come close to reaching its true potential.

I guess in political terms you can call me an Independent, I'm open to all parties views and in the end will base my decision on what they can do rather than what they can say.

Except for that Neon^^^ nothing it can do will ever convince me. hahahaa

the only reason i dislike Hondas are because they popularized the whole FWD Import movement. when this happened RWD development took a back seat. Imagine if the demand was there for RWD cars, we could have gotten the S15 here in the US.

my first dream car was a 300ZX, my first cars were Nissans so I love Nissans. I did spend 5 years on the other fence when I drove a RSX type-S. car was excellent, nimble and quick. But eventually the lack of torque and the FWD setup made me trade up to the Z. Hondas are not bad. you have to give credit when credit is due. Its just Honda's philosphy differ greatly from Nissan's

Look ...I think everyone knows what vtec is...variable valve timing through multiple cam profiles or other method are and have been in use on many vehicles. It is useful in the city where you want a less aggressive setup that burns less gas under non performance situations. In higher rpm ranges it has a different profile that you can maintain if you stay in those parts as a good driver. Now...it has many names...vvtli in the toyota celica gt-s for example, or mivec on about 15 mitsubishis, or:oy: dread it VVEL on the newer nissan 3.7 vq's out there;), even bmw employs valvetronic which is more advanced and alters exhaust as well. Advanced cars are using variable valve timing in combination with variable exhaust and variable lift duration as well.

Vtec is a specific name for honda's original variable timing setup through use of different cam profiles. It stands for variable valve timing and lift electronic control. Vtec is not a performance feature. It never has been. Vtec is an intelligent economy feature.

BTW, I would expect that many more cars will adapt to some form of variable engine profile as the new fuel regulations take effect.

If anyone else wants to chime in and add more please do...but I think the point is made - yeah - we might have a clue what vtec really is... ...or maybe you could educate us?

i thought vtec was just a sticker that added like a bagillion horse power.....

But vtec is huge because people felt the change in the valve timing, there fore it became what it is today. So like any normal competitive car company they slapped it on everything equiped with it, and even posted it on the side of some of their cars (new si civic). I can't hate honda, its such a good company that makes the best of a lot of things - generators, misc motors, motor cycles of every aspect. The engineering for honda is top notch, not that nissan isn't - i mean we know it is above the rest (skyline = genius). But i have owned a honda, and respect them. To me the owner of the car makes it or breaks it. Most ricers own hondas so i can see where the hatred is fueled - respectfully

Nissan N-VCT - Varies the rotation of the cam(s) only, does not alter lift or duration of the valves. VVL - Varies timing, duration, and lift of the intake and exhaust valves by using two different sets of cam lobes. VVT introduced with the HR15DE, HR16DE, MR18DE and MR20DE new engines in September 2004 on the Nissan Tiida and North American version named Nissan Versa (in 2007); and finally the Nissan Sentra (in 2007). VVEL introduced with the VQ37VHR Nissan VQ engine engine in 2007 on the Infiniti G37.

I dont hate Hondas. I actually think they make probably one of the best 4 bangers ever...

heres an article that's probably worth a read. Got it from another forum.
Tamotsu Horikoshi/Kaz Mori wrote: Integra Type-R Article from Carboy MagazineOriginal article written by Tamotsu Horikoshi, translated by Kaz Mori

Why does Honda choose to tune the R by hand?Japan's automobile makers are famous for using their experience and knowledge gained in the racing field and making use of it in their production lines for street cars. Well, the sad truth is that most of the time, such things are thrown around as hype -- most automobile makers will make a car "inspired" by racing, but they don't actually employ racing technology, and automobile makers never really "fully tune" their cars. However the Integra Type R is not so. Its racing spirit is not that of image, but is in its generous use of racing technology. The Type R is a car that comes fully tuned straight from the manufacturer.

In order to increase compression ratio, the side molds of the pistons were increased. (Pent-Roof-type Piston) The inside was shaved to balance out the total weight, and the aluminum pistons were forged in order to retain precision.

Though the easiest way to increase horsepower is by increasing displacement or installing a turbo, Honda has made its reputation by sticking to its NA engines. The Integra's VTEC B18C type engine retained its stock displacement, but Honda increased its horsepower from 180 to 200. It's only *20* horses more, but those 20 horses were really tweaked out using Honda's formula 1 knowledge -- from an engine that was already getting 100 horsepower per liter. Fumiyasu Suga, Type R's assistant chief engineer, was kind enough to sit down with us.

Currently, production line engines and engine parts are made by computer-guided NCR machines, and are of very high quality. However, Mr. Suga believes that in order to make a true race engine, some parts must be built/assembled by hand. In specific, the assembling of the engine, balancing parts, and porting and polishing need to be done by hand. Amazingly, all Type R engines are built this way.

Custom-made connecting rods for the Type R. It is made to withstand the higher rpm's, and is still lighter than the stock parts. These Type R parts are made with such precision that the weight difference between all four rods is so small that it is negligible.

Naturally, porting and polishing excessively won't yield good results -- it will only upset the balance between displacement and peak rpm's. Some basic physics explained... In any cylindrical enclosure/piping, the closer air is to the metal wall, it will flow slower, and the closer it is to the center of the cylinder, it will flow faster. As rpm's increase, slight variations in the enclosure will cause for serious air flow disturbances. Logically speaking, a straight, cylindrical port would prevent any problems of air-flow disturbance, but with street cars and their limited engine bay space, the port has to be bent. The stock port is built to within such precision that it can already withstand rpm's of up to 7,000 rpm without creating any unwanted air-flow disturbances, but once it reaches 8,500 rpm, the engine struggles to keep the air flowing smoothly. To augment this problem, two of the best mechanics at Honda were selected and assigned to manually port and polish the engine components. Though this limits production to 25 engines a day, this allows for the engine to reach 8,500 rpm, and respectively, 200 horsepower. For those of us who want to port and polish our GS-R engine parts, unfortunately, Honda would not disclose to us the details of this procedure.

The piston skirt was made lighter in order to lessen the inertial mass. Since lightening the piston causes the piston "neck" to rock back and forth, a molybdenum coating was applied to lessen friction.

Next, the valves and the valve springs needed to be upgraded in order to be able to withstand the high rpm's and the increased fuel injection. In order to increase air flow efficiency, the angle of the valve seat opening was tightened from 60 to 45 degrees. Also, bigger and lighter valves help to deliver more fuel. Instead of making the valve bigger, Honda engineers made the cone bigger and reduced the stem radius even further. In specific, the underside of the valve cone was shaved to its limit, and the valve shaft width was decreased from 5.5mm to 4.6mm -- making the valve 12% lighter than stock. Amazingly, the valves are made so precisely that their static balance differential is basically 0.0. We jokingly asked Mr. Suga what he would do if Honda's parts manufacturers sent over valves that had weight differences. His reply was quick and simple. "We would toss them out." Hm... very strict. Past 8,000 rpm, other valve-related problems occur. Such problems include surging, jumping, bouncing, etc... In order to prevent such problems, the valve springs are made by dual-bound springs. Furthermore, Honda used non-cylindrical, "flat" springs in order to keep the spring height near-stock, and still increase rebounding power.

Injectors installed on the underside of the pistons allow for improved cooling, and prevent the pistons from getting "burned-in".

The camshaft lift amount was changed for both intake and exhaust valves. The intake lift was increased from 10.6mm to 11.5mm, and the exhaust lift was increased from 9.4mm to 10.5mm. To compensate, the intake opening timing was increased from 10 to 15 degrees before piston apex, and closing timing was increased from 40 to 45 degrees after the piston reaching base. Likewise, the exhaust opening timing was increased from 40 to 45 degrees before the piston reaching base, and the closing timing was increased from 7 to 10 degrees after piston apex. By doing so, the valves remain open longer -- allowing for more air to enter the combustion chamber.

Unlike the base crankshaft, additional balancing weights were added on number 1 and 4, and allows for smooth, high-rpm revving -- making it a 8-weight, fully-balanced crankshaft. The attachment point of the connecting rods to the crankshaft uses a new, adjustable connector that allows the mechanics to manually adjust the connection using a micrometer so they can compensate for the stretching of the connecting rod bolt.

One of the keys to tuning a NA engine is the piston. In order to increase the compression ratio, aluminum, pent-roof-type pistons were used. In order to keep a good precision of mass, the aluminum pistons were forged. The piston ring was given more space to move around in, and to prevent piston "head" shake caused by the extra space, a molybdenum coating (also used in the NSX) was applied to lessen friction. The con rods are specially made for the Type R, and have a neat, little letter "R" molded onto it. The precision weight of these con rods are 2 levels above that of on-line production models. The weight differential between all four rods is so small that it is negligible, and all contacting surface areas are finished off with a race-car, mirror finish, and is connected to a fully balanced crankshaft. Furthermore, the assembly of the con rods and the crankshaft play an important role in attaining the high rpm's. In order to ensure perfect assembly, the engine is taken off-line and these parts are assembled by hand. A custom con rod micrometer gauge is used, and the stretching of the con rod bolt is taken into account for as the connections are tightened. This is something no machine can do, and this ensures that there aren't any unwanted vibrations at high rpm.

The dual-port intake manifold was "simplified" to a single-port -- allowing the torque curve peak to be at an unusually high 7,500 rpm. Very unusual indeed, but compliments the horsepower curve peak at 8,000 rpm.

In order to prevent engine knocking at high rpm's, NGK's high-spark #7 platinums are used. Honda is so meticulous with its Type R production that it actually coats the spark plug tip with silicone so the spark plug doesn't collect any unwanted deposits during the stop-and-go of transportation. (Wow... does that help any?)

Two of the best mechanics at Honda port and polish the manifolds by hand in order to create a high-rpm engine. Due to the manual process, only 25 engines a day can be created. Our sources have confirmed that their are now 5 mechanics working full time on port and polish. Ed.

The intake port was simplified from a dual-port to a single-port -- in hopes of making high-speed air flow better. The stock exhaust piping that varied in width from 48.6mm~50.8mm was upgraded to a full piping with 57.2mm width all the way. Furthermore, the fully stainless-steel header a-pipe employs a 4-2-1 design, but with no sharp edges in the A-pipe when going from 2 to 1. This is a feature that is said to be impossible to do in mass-production.

The valve springs are not cylindrical, but flat -- and made of dual-bound springs. This prevents the surging effect at high rpm's, and avoids any interference with the pistons. The cut-off area of the springs are done with the most extreme care.Bigger valves have their advantages, but are heavier. The Type R's valves were redesigned so as to have a bigger cone area, but still be 12% lighter.

In overview, over 60 engine-related parts were changed or entirely re-designed for the Type R. We asked Mr. Suga for any other advice on tuning the Type R any further. He replied, "I would prefer that people don't try to further tune the Type R. No, actually, they shouldn't try. Each upgraded part works in perfect harmony, and fiddling with the factory setting will only lead to a decrease in performance." It's probably safe to say that the Type R is a rare, "fully tuned" and "stock" automobile.

In order to make exhaust air flow smoother, there are no sharp angles in the header. Furthermore, in order to lighten/strengthen the parts, stainless steel was used.Impossible to do in mass-production, all exhaust piping is welded together with no sharp edges throughout. Also, the piping was upgraded to 57.2mm throughout to increase air flow. The muffler is a multi-chamber design, and does a wonderful job of dissipating sound. However, the funnel-shaped piping in-between the chambers makes it a very free-flowing exhaust.

Anyway, go ahead and explain the reasons you "hate" honda's (ricers) and maybe some funny pics would be of help.... I personally only hate one car..... NEON's !!!! you could have a 500whp SRT-4 and its still a neon = gay!

YUK!!!!!
you could also have a 500whp civic si and its still a civic=gay+body kit+huge rear spoiler=mega gay

i never hate on a group of cars, or single manufactor... each car has its ups and downs and most of that depends on who the drive is.... for example SRT-4 (read in the early postings of this forum) where i live there is some guy who owned one and bragged on it all day long.. so i asked him for a little race (first str8 away then a lil turnss...) anyway i ate his breakfast, lunch and dinner ( this was in my old 300 zx that had bout a lil over 430 hp.... he said he could beat me...) well i went to houston and another srt owner was doing tha same, little did i know it was stage 3 so we raced and he ate my breakfast, lunch, and dinner... same with hondas... but for those ppl that do rice out their cars, like that z that i posted up shows taht even ppl who have a very sexy car from stock can still " rice" a car out no matter what it is.... , should have thier drving privilage taken away.... and yes taht blue neon is fugly but if u havent seen that white z i posted take a look and tell me which one looks better.... not hating on z's at all cause i love mine.... just that one....

Now that is sad...someone did that to an actual SRT-4.....why????????? Between the lambo doors, the extra bodywork, the rear so dropped that the wheels are practically in the trunk, that must be the slowest srt-4 on the planet! That front bumper is the most tasteless thing i have ever seen.. looks like a stock bumpers grille and roll - just .....why????........ lol and is that nitrous in the passenger side???? omg
