I know for me I always had a love for 240's. I was destined to own one. When I was born (yeah I'm young) my father had a z28 that I was brought home from the hospital in. He kept it and kept it clean until I was about 10. When I was 16 I missed out on a 300zx by like 6 minutes. It was an orange 96' with about 50k and the owner only wanted 5,500 at the time for it. by the time I convinced my grandfather to get it for me it was too late . So after getting my feeling hurt, I tried to get an 02' altima for graduation in 02' due to all the trouble I almost got into a few times street racing during the school yeah my grandfather looked @ the spedometer and said it was too fast. So I got a truck for graduation. But I was determined. In college I met an old friend from highschool she was 2 year younger and when she said she wanted an altima i knew it was fait. Around December of last yearI found a 240sx for sale online. I bought it and flew up there that monday. Smiling from ear to ear with extacy when I got in it, I turned the key and joyfully pressed the push button start (the previous drive installed). On the way home the car and I became the same identity, it drove like a dream and handled the hills of tennesse in a way that made me feel as if i were floating through the clouds (not to mention scared the s*** out of some big truck drivers). It was a 22 hour drive from virginia to louisiana. The only reason I didn't stop for a room was because i was having tooo much fun. I have to admit I was sad when the journey was over. But after that I think I'll never own anothe rkind of car

BTW: my girlfriend traded in her sentra for that altima about 2 weeks after I got the 240

1. My first car was a nissan maxima, 1990 gle, fully loaded. When I was a teen, I told myself that I would one day purchase every type of vehicle that I wanted at the time. Right now, i've owned 5 of the cars I ever wanted so far. The 240 was one of them - specifically the vert.

2. Since the maxima, I've been a strictly honda enthusiast - although I dib and dap in other areas...honda's is where I have a stronger knowledge. So, I wanted to strengthen my knowledge in the nissan area as well.

3. I remember when I was watching an episode of initial D...maybe like 5 years ago or something...and the concept of the SilEighty seemed so sick to me! It brought back my will to build up a 240 - so after a few more years..I finally got around to it.

4. Most importantly - when I got married, with my first child coming, I was still in college. Taking 14-18 credits per semester and working 30+ hour weeks. I had to sell my beloved GSR/Del Sol in order to have money saved for the baby. Then, two years later I had my second child - I was still "kinda" building rides at the time...but mostly small stuff here and there that kept me happy. My old del sol was a real ride...that I put alot of blood, sweat and tears in. So when I finally landed a great job and good pay...I started saving and making the time to invest in a new ride. Something that would be sweet and a bit "different" from the norm. Thus, the 240.

I recently sold my mint condition Integra for a beat a** 240convertible that leak water, leaks gas and need a whole new interior and I love it. Over the four years I owened the Integra I never had to fix anything, 144k miles and nothing broke or leaked. I had nothing to tinker with or fix or make better because, in mint stock condition, IMHO, there was nothing wrong, and yet everything was wrong. It had enough power to go, but not to beat anything respectable and I didn't want to put 10k into the motor to fix that. It looked nice but never enough to make someone looks twice. And most body kits would have instantly made me a ricer in the majority of the public eye. Basically, it had no soul. Not somthing I can describe except you can tell a car that does and doesn't.

I had always wanted a convertible as a kid. My aunt was dating someone at the time with a black convertible( i don't remember what type)and I got to tag along for a ride when they visited. I remember it being awesome. (especially when your 8 and you can stand up holding the windshield down the street) . Earlier last year I decided I wanted to get a motorcycle but didn't have any scratch. I got this crazy notion, thanks a few half sober friends, to sell the integra and buy a cheap convertibel that I could play around with and buy a decent used motorcycle with the money. Process of elimination during research came up with the 240sx being the best buy. Cheap, reliable, decent performance, RWD (fwd burnouts are just not cool), and it had sharp yet subtle good looks. Needless to say I finally found a black one in ohio (harder to find than i had thought).

After signing papers i drove across the street to get gas. 2 minutes after I bought the car it happens. Somthing that had never happened in the Integra. "Hey man, nice car! How do you like it?" We talked for 30 minutes at a gas station about cars and how he had planned to get one but never followed through. This was not to be the last time either, at a a gas station or other place. I constantly get comments and stares from people on ever trip. Very few smelly, rusting, beat up cars gather that kind of attention from such a broad crowd. Although that's not the entire reason I like my vert it ranks fairly high. Plenty of this are broke and need of repair ( =fun to a mechanical engineer) and yet it runs great, gets good milage and left me enough to get a nighthawk!

Finally I must add this forum has been the most supportative and informative of any I have visited. The integra forum were not nearly as knowlegable and reasonable.

Long story? Hey, you asked!

The longer the better, thats exactly the thing I was trying to get @. I actually made my story shorter cuz I didn't want it to be too long. But it seems when you start talkin bout your 240 its just so muchto say. I think someone should write a book just about people's experiences and adventures with the 240, especially, especially, especially the verts.

Well...I bought my Vert from a friend of mine's Dad. His dad had let his girlfriend drive it for a while after she sold her car. She gave it back to him after about a year of driving it and told him it was making a noise under the hood....WRONG. The ***** never changed the oil and it had an oil leak...thus...ran it without oil and it spun a rod bearing. So it sat behind my buds house under a cotton cover for a little over 3 years with a blown motor until I moved back to my hometown. I was over one afternoon talking with his dad in the backyard and told him I always wanted a "little convertible" and was interested in buying it. $500 and it was a deal. Not bad for a car with no body damage or any rust. I've owned the car since last Nov. but have only started working on it this past month. I remember riding in the car after my bud's dad bought it...it was rough then...but after I finish with it...it will be very clean. Late summer days at Myrtle Beach here I come!!! 240 Vert head for life!!

i bought my vert off my cousin about 3 years ago as a hs freshman. i was looking for a good car to fix up as a tuner like the movie The Fast And The Furious because i was into these cars then. i didnt want a civic or accord because they were played out. i like cars that are uncommon, so when i went to visit my cousin he asked me if i wanted to buy his car. right away i said yes because it looked like an awesome car and ive never seen anyone with it. since he was going to the army, he had no use for it. he replaced the motor because my other cousin had blown it. i payed him 2500 for it. it was sitting at my house for a year because i was too young to drive. i was saving up in the meantime so i could fix it. i worked hard the next summer so i could get it new paint and interior. before that, though, i got it to run better than when i bought it. i'm still not done. i have a lot to do on my car. the exterior looks great, so i'm just going to work on it's performance. many people in my family say they don't like it but i don't care. i worked my a** off for this car so i don't care what people think. one of my cousins talks a lot off s*** about my car, just because he owns an eclipse spyder (which i think is ugly) but i dont care what he says because he's into civics. i've had a car collector comment on my car. he said it was one of the most beautiful cars he's ever seen. i don't ever plan on selling my car because i worked too hard for it plus this car is perfect for the summer, especially the beach.

Now that's shift_love. BTW 2Face, I've owned a eclipse spyder before too. Take it from me and the rest of the true DSM'ers. That bull**** spyder is NO TYPE of performance machine. First off, it's front wheel drive. Second, if he/she has a GS - then its a non turbo, 4G64 motor. Sohc garbage. If he/she is lucky enough to have a gs-t, then that'sa 4g63 - which is hella better, but still not respected b/c the chassis is:

a. Second gen - ie not a true "dsm". Which means even fellow mitsu fans will diss him/her.

b. it's fwd man. Nuff said.

c. Mitsubishi marketed that model eclipse (and all other clipses to follow) toward women. So, if your cuz is a he...well...you get the drift.

Take it from a guy who's owned over 10 cars (civics and eclipses include) - your 240 is the best out of the bunch you described.

I just love driving it... yesterday a friend of mine came over in his very polished low miles 2002 Corvette. He asked me to take a drive and swap cars, I hesitated at first but then I thought; if he is willing to take the risk that I won’t crash his $50k car VS. My ~$15k car he must really want to drive my car.

So we took this drive, up a curvy mountain road (one we both know well). We were both pushing the cars. After a few miles I started to really miss my car and hate this Corvette (it felt like driving a boat compared to my 240), so I made him pull over and give it back.

Once I got back in my car, I walked all over that Vette for the rest of the drive. He said I pushed those corners to a point that he was not willing to take his vette to, but I think that thing was tapped out, and I was just getting started.

thanks wirelessalpha. i honestly had no idea that eclipse spyders were that weak or directed for women. now i could talk s*** to my cousin for this. i like my car. it's fun to drive and it's pretty unique. i plannin on leavin most of my car stock except for the engine. i'm hopin this car's value rises eventually, just like the muscle cars.

my dad bought my vert for my sister when i was 10 or 11, once i was able to drive it was going to be mine. he got it at an auction for $500 and as soon as i saw it i fell in love with it. my sister on the other hand, wasnt so crazy about it. to her, it was just another car. but then i started looking at other tuners and then i slowly decided to later sell it for something like an integra. i still liked the car though, and i was slowly gettin into the nissan/nismo culture. after a while, maybe when i was about 12 1/2, i was set on 240's, there were too many ppl ricing out tegs and others like it. but i still wasnt so crazy about my vert, i wanted a hatch. when i was 13 in the winter, the curtain froze over and broke, my sister then decided that she hated the car and she ws done with convertibles. by then i was a nissan 240sx/ drifting addict. when she said she hated the car, i was shocked, but whatever, better for me because since she was getting a new car, the vert WAS MINE!!!! we took it to the auto shop that january of 2005. and its been there since. the whole time, ive been working on it, using whatever money i had to buy parts. and then i fell in love with the 1993 nissan 240sx convertible again. last summer i spent my time and money on audio, this summer im gonna start performance. im about to be 15 now, and i still havent driven the car more than 2 inches because its not perfect yet. but there is an unbreakable bond between me and my vert now, one night i actually slept in it. all my friends are braggin about their cars theyre gettin next year for when they get thier license, i told them nothing, except that i have a 240, which they underestimate wayyy to much, i just cant wait until they face my KA and die with their riced out civics. well anyway, thats the story off me and my 240 lol, and go ahead and call me a dork cuz ive never driven it, i dont care lol, the first drive is gonna be the best for me

First off, I didn't realize you were so young. OMG man...I'm getting real old. Sheesh.

Second, you REALLY REALLY scared me when you starting talking about an unbreakable bond...and the night spent with your car (guys, the kid's 15...im gonna refrain from saying anything...er...adult).

BUT! I liked your endind "go ahead and call me a dork cuz ive never driven it, i dont care lol, the first drive is gonna be the best for me".

and am proud of your devotion...

I fell in love with my '94 240 convertible on the test drive. I was flying down the highway with the top down and it just felt right. It was a great replacement for an Oldsmobile Cutlass, and I've chewed out so many people for putting drinks on it or setting stuff on the hood, little things. But it's cause I'm heartbroken when it get's damaged. I even sunk 3k into repairs after hydroplaning into the back of a truck. I wasn't drifting or anything, but the previous owner had put bald tires on and after buying it i wanted to save up money for other things...should have spent 300 on tires and avoided 3k damage. I drive it daily and no matter the condition of the top, I'm glad I bought it. It's worth it to get the looks of awe from coupe and hatchback owners riding by with primer and steelies. I don't think I'll ever own anything besides another Nissan.

Because it is known as the destroy neighborhood machine. Yes you cna have fun with a coupe/hatch with sunroof. But the vert makes getaway's so easy even the driver can be part of the act. With no top it sllows you to do a complete thrown of whatever it may be, nto some little short toss. In our defense we are kids and I know probably 95% of u reading this have done some kind of neighborhood trashing. Egg, TP, trashcans etc.

k14 thats definately shift_love. When i got in an acciden about 2 months ago on campus @ LSU. I almost wanted to cry when i saw my baby in pieces. although it was just the front end and fiberglass, i was heartbroken. All I needed was an ew radiator. But today my s15 core support came in and yesterday the new alarm. I felt like a kid on christmas. Needless to say when i got off from work, I began installing the alarm. I would have started on the new radiator core support today but i didn't feel like dragging a welder home from work. And I feel you. I'm only 21 and I thought I was young. I don't think I'll ever own another kind of car myself. Its just something about a nissan. They actually seem to have a soul. And my car and I bonded when I first drove it on that long trip home as I described earlier. I had pleanty of hotels i could have stopped @ on the 23 hour journey home, but there was just this love for the car that made me keep driving.

I got into the whole Nissan thing through my bro Eikon, even went to Georgia and back for a S14. I've always enjoyed the looks of the cars and it's the only car that i've researched partially well enough to mess with. That and waiting and searching forums and car sites since I was 16 trying to find a nice cheap one. I really fell in love with the 240's when I got to drive my bro's rb20 vert up and down my relatively long driveway, never hit above 30 mph, but just the sound of the turbo and the top down are a combination that becomes near addiction quite quickly. I finally got my own for 660.00 on ebay several months ago and after a near impossible feat of getting back home when it wouldnt move and me without a truck, my uncle finally got it back. I've almost finished collecting all the parts for the 5spd swap and it should be running this summer. I'm estatic for the chance when i'll finally be able to cruise the country roads with the top down.

hahaha, i didnt mean to sound like such a desperate guy lol, i have a gf, what i meant by "unbreakable bond" was that i couldnt imagine ever selling the car and that i know whatever is going wrogn with it. hahahaha, and i slept in it because it was like 3am and i like sleeping in car seats rather than cold cement garage floor. hahaha, but ur right it did sound like it deserved some "adult" comments

man! and i thought i was the youngest vert owner. i'm 17 right now but i bought it right before i turned 15. i'm not spoiled, though, if that's what some of you are thinking. my parents didn't buy it for me or put in any money. as i mentioned earlier, i worked very hard during my summer vacations to pay for it, instead of kicking back like everyone else. most of you guys are lucky you got your vert so cheap. i paid more than double of what some of you paid. what conditions were they in?

well i cant say i have a love for nissan, because through out my tuning days i was a die hard honda boy when i first got my rsx,i continued to hate on my friends spec v and everything. well i ended up getting rid of that rsx i do miss it some times. just wasnt what i was really looking for. i ended up getting me a 05 evolution. so that takes care of my speed erge. now my father came up to me saying lets buy a convertible/ targa top car that we can hook up and fix. well we thought the del sol first but really since im 6'2 240 lbs and my father isnt a small man either we ex that one out we were gonna go with a eclispe spider like maybe 95 or 96 model. just too over priced for a project car. finally i thought to myself i remember seeing a nissan 240sx convertible. well we decided on that so we finally found a decent condition one. we both drove it is very comfortable car good leg room for a big guy like me and my pops so we said lets get it. it was gem female driven everything. so now my father is deeply in love with our vert and im going fancy for it myself.l when im not in a mood to be hitin the gears in the evo im crusin in the vert and we will be getting it painted up and throw some nice wheels on it. basically im growing attached to it and its a very good quality car. im glad we bought it.

I got hooked on Nissan by my best friend. I introduced him to his wife more than 12 years ago. Back then she was a childhood friend of mine, and the recent recipient of a 280ZX courtesy of her Mom and Dad. Peyton got to drive the 280ZX just once and was hooked on Nissan and rear wheel drive. He and I both had front wheel drive cars in high school. American manufacture and all. Years went on, He bought a 1993 240SX in 1996. 10 years later he still has it, with no problems other than the timing chain rattle. His father in law became a fan of Nissan after buying the 280ZX, and his in-laws are now on their 3rd Maxima (an 03GLE, as the last two were totalled in accidents). His mother in law has an 05 Pathfinder, his wife has an 03 Altima 3.5 with the manual transmission. throw in a 96 Nissan pick up as the lowe's getter, and that's their household. Oh and the 280ZX still sit's in their Garage. As for me, well after they got me hooked, I have had an 00 Crew Cab (still have it), an 03 Sentra SE-R Spec V (totalled by a guy going to the liquor store), a 99 Maxima (wife's first car we bought together), an 03.5 G35 Sedan (wife's Current toy), a 1994 J30t (for the wife's little sister), a 300ZX Twin Turbo (sold when I bought the 240 Vert), and finally the 240SX Vert (my long term project). My mom fell in love with the new Altima's and bought an 05 3.5 Altima in Radiant Silver. Dad claims that he wants to trade up his truck for a Titan. What can I say, we live in the south and can't do without a truck. Finally, I'm now thinking about trading my truck in for a new Xterra. Dealer claims to be ready to do a great deal on a 4x4 model. For me they have been trouble free, phenomenally priced, soulfull, torque friendly, good looking vehicles. My wife likes to joke and say I should get a cheaper hobby, like maybe heroin (running joke as I work in Law Enforcement). Now if I could just add a G Coupe 6MT, and an NSX in Long Beach Blue Pearl, I think I could call my collection complete.

then why don't you love miatas??

I bought a ford escort in highschool with a racing stripe on it. I was interested in car stereo (an obsession my older cousin had started years ago) and went through a number of systems in that car. Once I started to take it to shows I wanted to do more with the car (disc brake swap, wheels, racing seats) but it was an escort and no parts were available and it was still slow as balls. My friend pulled up at the pool one day with a shiny red (repainted) 90 240sx coupe with 17's on it. I remembered seeing the 180sx in gran turismo 2 and I was interested cause the car looked awesome, and I remember that even though it was an auto it was faster than all the riced out cavaliers and crx's around my town. Eventually I wrecked my Escort (best "mod" I ever did to it) and was shopping for a new, cheap reliable car, and after getting my feet wet in the escort I decided I wanted a car that not everyone had, that had decent parts availability, but most importantly, that I could work on myself. Then SCC came out with their now infamous $2000 drift machine article. I have to admit, I read it, emailed the editor a few times, then ran out the same month and bought a silver 89 hatch for $1000 from some old hippie lady. The car was ****ed, dented in 1/4 panel, missing the sunroof (had plexi siliconed in place) drivers seat was broken, leaking oil badly, etc. I took it home and did the bodywork myself, bought a new sunroof, fixed the seat, installed new seals on the motor, put in a new clutch, and invested in some grippy tires, poly bushings, and spring/strut combo along with some strut tower bars.

I was hooked, the car was slow as balls but come the first corner I could leave behind friend making twice the HP I was... I actually had people sliding off corners trying to keep up with me in the twisties. That car was good, but as mentioned it had been in an accident and I wanted to get serious modifying a car. After it was hit (in the same 1/4) twice more I sold it, and used the $800 I got from selling it along with the insurance money from the second accident to purchase an 89 gold coupe in new jersey. It looked perfect but after taking delivery I realized the frame had bad rust. **** it though, right? I welded the rust up and built a killer ka24DE turbo motor in my basement from the crank up. It received spherical bushings, susp. tech. sway bars, a recaro seat, along with a handful of other mods (falken azenis RT 215's etc). I left the car behind when I left for grad school but came back that winter break and got it running and holy **** it was fast, spinning tires through 3rd gear. Then about 50 miles later it blew a headgasket due to a warped head my friend had gave me ("its good I swear" lol). I yanked the rebuilt ka and sold it for $150 with 5 speed trans and harness and fresh clutch(one of the stupider things I've done) and swapped in a '90 ca18det from Jhot over the next spring break. the motor was awesome, revving to the sky and making more power than even my KA had. While installing the motor I realize just how ****ing bad that rust has got. No matter, keep driving it, modding it, new 3" exhaust, bigger Infiniti M30 brakes, upgraded radiator, HKS then TOB bov valves.... but I realized that what I really wanted was a convertible... no one else had one, I wanted the top down, and since my coupe had cancer it was time for a replacement. Check prices... holy **** $2500 no way I'm gonna afford that. I put out the APB among my car freak friends for a vert with blown motor. sure even a few short weeks later one pops up... but its gutted in a junkyard with a cracked head. I picked it up for $650 with a clean title, swapped all the good bits over from the coupe (while adding a couple thousand in additional parts) and here I am today, still working on the thing, wanting to burn it to the ground but loving it in spite of its oil belching rough riding flaws.

I guess I do !

It was one of those right place/right time kind of deals with my 240. My Civic got stolen back in June. I got it back and sold it a month later, in July. I've been looking for something 5spd with a sunroof since then. I'm so glad I found my 240.

Even though she's auto, she won't be for long.

I love how there are so few 240 convertibles around.

Just look at my avatar! How could you not love her!?

Man, Pretty interesting stories. I'm telling you guys these would make a best seller. It would even inspire people. But anywayz I been gone for about a week with some family problems (which seem to occur about every six months in my family). As some of you know I'm doing an s15 conversion. When the family problem was solved this weekend I found myself rushing home to work on the vert to relieve stress. BTW got the core support on last weekend changed out the lights in the dash and the shift column and the front end cap is getting shipped this friday.

Hey everyone, I'm new to the site. The reason why i love my nissan, it all started with a 240sx coupe. My sister originally bought the coupe for her fiance. Well, he dumped her, but had forgotten that the car was registered to her. She took it back from him. It was a few months after i joined the Air Force and i needed a car, so she gave it to me. My first lengthy drive with it was from Chicago to Wichita Falls, Texas. I fell in love with it then. I was more partial to smaller cars and i thought it was flippin sweet that it was a RWD 4 cylinder. The car was with me all the way through Tech School and went with me to my first duty station. Since this was my first car that i didn't have to share with anybody, i went crazy. I racked up a few speeding tickets in it and also had a few unfortunate accidents. After having the car for three years, it was pretty much done for. I beat the crap out of that poor car. I even took it off-roading, just because a friend of mine said i'd get stuck within 50 feet of hitting the sand. I wanted to prove him wrong, so I did. Anyway, one day I was driving around because i was pissed at my wife, i happened to have seen a red 240sx convertible. I loved the way it looked, i really liked convertibles to begin with, but the car than i'm in love with was also a convertible. I wanted one! Since my coupe was pretty much done for, i decided to use this years tax return to buy a new car, well, new to me. I set out in search of a 240sx convertible. I couldn't find one in the general area. I looked in autotrader magazines and Ebay and only found one, but the top motor didn't work and they still wanted $4000 for it. fI finally got smart and checked autotrader.com and found a few of them in San Diego, a few hundred miles away. As of April 8th, i'm the very proud owner of a 240sx vert.

My Nissan love began in June of 1993. That's when I purchased -brand new- my beloved '93 Sentra SE-R. I grew up on small-block Chevys and drag racing, so this purchase was a bit of a bold step for me.

Car and Driver magazine had voted the SE-R one of their Ten Best Cars for three years running, and I had to see what this car was all about.

After a 7-mile test drive, I traded in my '92 Camaro RS (with the 5-liter V8, natch) and left with the SE-R. To this day, it still is one of the best all-around vehicles I've ever driven. That includes a lot of heavy machinery like M5s, E55s, etc. The SE-R is just an intoxicating little car.

My SE-R finally got modded starting in 2000. First nitrous, then a T28 setup from a Pulsar GTi-R. The original SR20DE engine had 150k miles on it, and took boost like a champ. It ran 12.80 @ 110mph with just 10psi of boost, on slicks.

I am now swapping in a SR20VE engine (Nissan's VTEC, 'yo) in the SE-R and that will be the perfect SE-R, IMHO. 190hp, screaming redline, great sounds. I will autocross and track day that car until the day I die.

The 240 convertible just kind of appeared one day in the classifieds over at http://www.SR20forum.com and I had a look at it. At the time, a mint '90 240 coupe was in my driveway, but something said to go and get the 'vert.

I'm so glad I did. Yes, it needs interior help (as do most of them), but it is a solid car, very fun to drive with stock suspension and rock-hard tires.

The KA has a T3 turbo on it, and there's something delicious about putting the top down and hearing a turbocharger.

I can't wait to begin the next round of mods on the car.

Shift_LoveWell my birthday was June 3rd and my other half bought me something very near and dear to my hear. A 263 piece craftsman tool set. She also may have located some s15 hood hinges for me. Thats the beauty of having a girlfriend who also has a Nissan. She understands my love for my car!
