This is only my second post but after watching some you tube videos i am wondering why anyone would swap out the stock engine if it could be turned into anything remotely close to the car in this video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkqPgT9u0ig

Am i missing something? Is the guy full of it?

As i said i am new and do not mean any disrespect to those who have swapped engines just curious why if they could be turned into something like this guy has.

Its just personal preference. s***, some people prefer the CA over the SR.

Cause something like that guy has is unrealistic for most. I have an SR, my friend has a KA. Honestly, s*** is the same. KA's have a little weaker bottom end though, or so I am told.

It's the stock pistons, the ring lands are thinner because the KA started out NA. Other than that, it has an iron block as well as forged steel rods and forged steel crank.

sr is lighter and can rev higher. I'll have my turbo with some displacement on the side though.

Different engines, different characteristics. SRs have more aftermarket support. Stock, the SR has stronger piston. SR comes stock with a turbo already. SR was a long proven before the KA ever was. KA-T requires more research to do than a SR swap. Ofcourse there was the big hype about SRs by certain magazines in the late 90's to early 2000s about the SRs as well. It all comes down to personal preferences for most these days though. Others will tell you why go SR, CA, or KA when you can go RB or V8 these days too.

dude, the car runs high 7's at 170+....you wont find that on the street, anywhere.
and for the money that i'm sure is in that engine, you could swap anything into it and build it. all the engines, sr-ka-ca-rb-vg, they will all make crazy power if you dump a buttload of money into them.
guys are even doing ls* swaps now.
but that is a drag car, it should have little bearing on youre engine choice or preference.

Well, as a KA advocate myself, I love seein' that stuff! I will not, and never will swap out a longer stroke/larger displacement engine. Back when I first started researching and learning about the KA's potential (circa 2002/3), I realized I really wanted to keep that KA in there and do a build-n-boost. I'm really thinking about a V8 swap in the future (distant) though. :bigthumb:

Agreed, but if you want to go fast you gotta spend the cash and custom builds work extremely well when you [or the like] know what you're doing. Motto: I hate stock anything. :gapteeth:

Ugh, SS ... that's the first mistake ... don't get me started. :chuckle: ;) ... There's going to be pros and cons for everything you do that is different from what was part of the original makeup of the car. I don't listen to any cons if my mind is set on doing something different ... you just make it happen. "Simplify it", my dad used to say, "it's only metal, plastic and rubber." :dblthumb:

I loved my KA,and I love my sr. There are pros and cons to each, but they are to completely different motors. Thats why the ka/sr debate never gets solved. You cant compare them, it's like comparing an apple to an orange, yeah they are both fruit but totally different.

ALL good responses in this thread...

I spent 3x the cost of a full SR swap to build my KA-T. Why? Hell, I dunno. I wanted to show all the local fanbois it could be done, I guess. If I had it to do over again, I'd have had one of the early LS swaps. :)

I've got a KAde with 200k miles & it runs like a top. I can peel out - even with an auto. LOVE this motor. I will probably go SR20 when I wear out this motor... but for now it's a low cost torque monster with air conditioning!

Sigh....... mazworx s15 with a sr(stroked to 2.2 running a sr20ve head revving to 11k) running a 7.4 at 183.

But honestly, who cares, neither one of these cars will ever be seen driving on the street, and have twice the money dumped in the motor then most of us has dropped in our entire car.
