I had all kinds of explanations planned out as to why people swap to SR (myself included), but it seems everything has been said already. KAs seem to enjoy tossing the #3 rod, even without boost. SRs are known for tossing rocker arms. (This is why Rocker Arm Stoppers are the mod of the month in the SR RWD forum.) I recommend you do some serious research here on NICO (The search button is your friend) and decide yourself what you like. There are guys here who have done pretty much every swap you can think of, and most are willing to help you. Hell, there are even sub-forums dedicated to specific engines. (KA-T, SR RWD, SR FWD, CA, RB, VQ, etc..)

I heard you can have a/c and p/s with the sr.....

just depends on whatever goal you have for your car, I live in florida so a/c>>>>>>>>>>>turbo

I guess hard work and some fabrication is HARD that's most likely the reason folks swap in the SR20DET... I am kind of partial towards the CA18 turbo but in the process of building a Turbo KA i cannot wait to drive that b****

wow really? you are the true definition of a ka fanboi. In case you haven't notice, a lot of people have turbo'd their ka, so you won't be "one of the few"

I'm putting an sr into my s14, and it da** sure isn't because I want to be "jdm mad tyte". I have plenty of reasons as to why I chose it, but i'm not going to waste my time explaining it to you.

op: who cares what people swap into their car? sr,ka,rb, it doesn't matter. People will/should do what they want with their car.

:gotme ... I am running 500+whp and have full a/c and ps. But hell, I'll take power over a/c anyday! I used to have a '76 Trans Am, mod' 455ci, black on black, t-tops, no tinted windows ... and no a/c! Yeah, it was hot ... but loved it! :dblthumb:

the car the OP posted could have any motor in it. to go THAT fast you need alot more then just sheer horsepower/torque. the front end looks like a 1 peice fiberglass front (notice no headlights, cornerlights, etc.) It appears to be backhalfed/Tubbed. Window's appear to be Lexan. i'd even beg the question if it's a stock chassis car or some tube framed contraption.

the car is a properly setup car. all it needs is a solid motor. which at the power that it's making a SR/KA/RB/LS/JZ would all be able to do that.

i chose the JZ cause with bolt ons and a small single turbo it's stupid reliable and gets great mileage in a S-chassis car and has very minimal lag and still makes 400+ HP

I also like the jz in a LHD 240 because the exhaust side is away from the BMC.

For sure, also away from the P/s Reservoir. Only "downside" is the gas lines are on the "wrong" side of a 240sx for the 2JZ, but thats an easy fix.

WOW...... Thanks to everyone for all the replies. Never thought i would get so many responses from this question.

After reading every response i realize how many factors there are in considering what engine to have in your 240sx. I am still in the process of finding my 240sx i want but when i get it i think i will keep the KA in it and drive it until the engine fails/dies and then possibly look for a swap or maybe a rebuild (if that is even a smart option).

Do you guys have to change the transmission when you swap motors or do most people keep the original transmission? (I would guess with a v8 swap you would but not sure about other motors).

Of course we change transmissions. Unless swapping bellhousings works but usually the transmissions are stronger than a ka trans.

Usually if the SR transmission fails we'll switch to a KA transmission by swapping bellhousings because of convenience of finding them in junkyards..

ka is in there. make life less complicated and just put a turbo and fmu in. simple cheap and pretty darn reliable.

and if you have the right hook ups you can boost a ka for near to nothing.

oh you have a turbo laying around can i have it since you swaped it for bigger turbo?
oh you know how to weld?
ebay fmu.
oh you have a timing light?
oh you have extra piping laying around?
hey i found a intercooler at the junk yard!!
exaust ebay.
BOOOST!!!!

but most dont have that ha

like their saying you like what you like obiously i like the ka. but people also like different cars. why do you think theres so many companies and so many different cars? no ones the same

do some reaserch and find your favorite. who knows you may want to put a smart car engine in it.

also any engine can make power its just how much you want to put into it. obiously import dps puts tons into it. or i think thats actually juniors car.

just slap a wing on it and stretch 195s on a 10" wide wheel and you're golden.

Lol the funny thing about Kalypso's post is that boosted SOHC is in an s14.

I did it for the lulz. Nobody expects a boosted ka, especially when they think their stock sr is the s***. I've beaten my fair share of sr's boosting 10+ psi while my wastegate is set at 5 psi.

^^^Yeah, for sure if I can't realistically pull off a VQ30DET, I'll be going KA-T. It just makes the most sense to me. For the price of an SR swap, a KA-T can give you over 300hp...

It all comes down to what the car is going to be used for... WDRacing and myself have stated pretty much every pro/con there is to each motor in a couple different threads. Look for threads created by Chuki_FB, and you'll find them.
