I apologize if this not the right section but I did not see one dedicated to site support. I've got a lot of computers (PC's, Macs and 2 iPhones). For some reason my MacBook Pro will not stay logged in to NICO. Can someone explain this? I've got cookies enabled to accept "always."

Thanks!

I usually get signed out on the computer when I sign in using my phone. And Vica-versa.

Fix it by getting another shoddy Apple product.

I have the same problem on my Macbook. Most of the time visiting the site for the first time of the day I'll be logged out, then randomly while searching through the forum I'll automatically be logged out.

Well it doesn't do that to me. You have to click it every time I noticed. The phone thing does happen to me too, tho...

What would we do without you?

FWIW My phone, PC, and MacPro all stay signed in. It's only my MacBook Pro that doesn't and it just started doing this last week.

Maybe I should join a civic forum, I'm sure I'll run into some of your old posts. Thanks for polluting another thread with constant negativity.

So are there any Admins that might be able explain why this is happening? Obviously I'm not the only one experiencing it. There was a minor OS security update a little while ago, could this have anything to do with it? Thanks!

EDIT: Forgot to mention that they really need to fix the "Return to the previous page" link you see after signing in. It's just a blast having to navigate yourself all the way back to the thread you were trying to post on.Why is that option even there? Why doesn't it automatically take you back? Buggy buggy buggy forum. It's one thing to upgrade a forum, it's another to upgrade it before it's out of beta.

Greg and the rest of the guys who know how to work a website are working their asses off right now trying to work out all the bugs. We're all deeply sorry that you have to take 45 extra seconds to navigate back to the thread you were in originally, but complaining about it isn't gonna help at all.

So do you know we keep getting signed out? I wasn't sure if Greg was aware of the failed redirection but hoped he was considering it's been going on since the upgrade. Every other forum that I've been on the for the last 5 years hadn't had this issue. But then again their forum software is current. Welcome to 2005 NICO!

I'm sure he has. But a link that redirects you to a different location takes a back seat when servers are crashing. I'll bring it up just in case he hasn't had a chance to see this thread though.

If you're so knowledgeable about forum software and how things should work, then by all means go start your own forum. No really, we won't miss you.

At what point did I say that I knew anything about forum software? I stated that the other forums I'm on work. Regardless, thanks for bringing it up to him. Since we don't see anything happening from this side it's hard to tell if bugs are being fixed. I don't doubt that it's a difficult job running such a massive forum and that there's always something to fix/maintain/improve. Just a suggestion, a site support sub-forum would be useful for this type of stuff. Especially if other are experiencing the same issues, which I'm sure they are. A diving forum I'm on has a site support section that also has sub-forums for Feedback, Suggestions, Photo Gallery(support), and Testing. They're the biggest scuba diving forum on the webz. I've found it really helpful and probably lessens the amount of PM's you guys get regarding software/functionality issues.

Perhaps we should have consulted Your Highness first.

BTW, 3.0.7 PL1 is not in beta. It was released March 5, 2010.

Probably a good idea. If it was out of beta I would expect it to work properly. It's okay if something doesn't work, just try not to get butthurt if someone wants to know why and if it's something they can fix on their own i.e. browser settings.

Don't flatter yourself - no one's butthurt.

You're just one of very few complaining. I think it might be operator error.

Obviously you are otherwise you wouldn't have responded like that. If it is operator error then please help me out. Like I said, if there's something that I can do to remedy the situation the please advise. I'm doing the same exact thing on all comps and only one is getting signed out constantly.

No bans today. :)

V, try clearing out your browser cache, cookies, etc. It's not a problem with the forum. You're knowledgeable about this stuff, and as such, should know it's a bug in browsers where sometime that just happens with certain sites. There's really no other way to explain it - if it works for some users, then it's working and anyone who has an issue with it working has the issue in relation to something on their computer...could be browser cache, corrupted cookies, plugins, or about 100 other different variables.

I have a certain PC that NEVER logs me off, even though my settings are different from yours (I prefer having to log in more frequently, for security reasons). To blame the forum software is short-sighted and ignores the thousands of other users who never have an issue with it.

Again, if it happened in ALL browsers, on ALL computers, it'd point to the forums. But it doesn't. There's a lot more variables on your end than there are on ours.

Sorry if that's not the answer you wanted.

Like what?

As I said, don't flatter yourself. Nothing you could do would get me anywhere NEAR "butthurt". :)
