Alright heres the deal. Earlier today my friend drove his 89 accord into a wall after loosing control on a off ramp. Im trying to convince him to buy a 240sx. He already has located a honda CRX with a b16a in it for about $3300 (wow these honda guys dont waste time). I wanted to prove to him that the 240sx would be a better buy and was wondering if you guys could help me come up with a list of the good points of a 240sx vs. a CRX.

rear wheel drive, start mods at a higher platform of power, newer, not as common, respected in the import world, good 240 for less than 3300, better swap possibilities, rear wheel drive, real wheel drive, rear wheel drive.

yes all true but look at it from a honda persons perspective. and no the 240 would NOT have more power because, as i already metioned, this CRX has a b16a in it (160 hp and the CRX only weighs like 2000 pounds)

woah, 5 horsepower, large diff. if he wants to stay a honda boy, let him. but, if he sees the light, congrats for him. all he needs to know is the potential of the 240, its rwd which is reason in itself, it handles better out of the box and modded, is a go-kart, has amazing potential, and, yea. thats it

not so ****ing ugly, RWD, not very common, not labeled "the poor man's sports car" RWD, not FWD, nissan, not a honda, not an old *** honda, most likely a lot less miles, um RWD, more stock power, lacks the lousy engine sound, crx has no torque, same price.

and screw the b16a, if u have to have a honda engine, get a b18c(integra gsr engine) or the prelude engine. and even then the torque is still low

RWD, RWD, RWD, RWD, more power, cleaner, not as common, RWD, RWD, RWD, RWD, stronger engine swaps, drifing capabilites, RWD, RWD, RWD, damn this sounds like a song, umm...this thread, better suspension, not the reason why import cars are considered rice, faster, stronger, and more funer to drive! The Rwd is definatly a plus, but a crx with a b16a will kill a stock or mildly modded 240 in a race. I do not like hondas and would never own one besides possibly a s2k but a b16a swapped crx can be a real sleeper, especially if its an hf model, i believe that is the lightest car that honda ever produced, and despite the fwd they still handle very good, i have seen them do quite well at autocrosses, however low torque and 2 seats would be a drawback, and of course its a honda. I think he would get more enjoyment out of a 240.

I have let him drive my car before and he does like it but he still is very interested in the CRX.

how about all around better looks, and better interior styling and of course RWD plus a possibility of an rb26dett swap? umm can you say sleeper? with a rb26dett and some mods, he would be fast as hell or even an sr20det swap he would still haul ***

as an ex-crx owner i guess i should chime in. The crx is a decent car. But it is a budget car. the 240 is a step up into the sportscar realm. If he just wants a decent car to zoom around in either will do. i can find crxes around here, stock, for about 1500-2000. a 240 will run you 2500 and up. For me the crx was fun because it weighed just about nothing. its basicaly a go-cart with doors. Zooming around corners on those thin assed tires was fun but i would never do any real racing with it. In stock form anyway. Another problem is that most of the body panels were plasitic and basicaly explode on impact from any collision(dont ask). I would say go for the crx (OMG did i just say that?) just for the fact it is so cheap that when (yeah WHEN) he wrecks it he wont be out a bunch MORE money (no insurance hehehe). At least he will be able to sell the motor for parts or something. HB

no offence but the guy crashed on an off ramp. If he can't handle an understeery little honda why should he be let loose on a 240?

BTW not only can worked on crx's be fast, even with mild mods they feel damn fast. I was in a friends first gen crx and at 85 I would have sworn we were doing at least 100.

I also owned a CRX and I wrecked it. Ill say this: yes un tuned FWD will understeer but untuned RWD will oversteer and either will get you killed unless you are very experienced. Understeer is less fun but the CRX handles like a mother_f#cker. It was easy on 195 balding tires to take corners at twice the recomended speed(scary on the signs that said 45). the CRX has a lot of similartys to the 240's. the engine led to alot of people swapping to the Japan spec motor, it has alot of aftermarket support, it handles better than 98% of the cars out there stock. then there are the differences. big ones. It was not a simple decition. this is how it came down in my mind.

the crx will handle better for cheaper but will hit its peak before the 240. this is because of the short susp. stroke on the 240 and the VAST selection of very inexpencive suspention parts from american companys for hondas. the 240 has more potential in the end because it is RWD and if you are willing to fork out the big bucks for japanese parts(some that solve the stroke prob.)they are superior to most american parts. the 240s chassis is wonderful but heavy. comparing a CRX to a 240 is like comparing a 240 to a Z32. the only lighter car to concider would be an EG hatchback.

the 240 wins in the engine department (american market and JDM) stock and mildly tuned. highly modified is a toss up. we all know what sr20s and ka24s and ca18s are capable of, but the B series engines are amazing and all you have to do to see that is look at the state of the popular import drag racing scene. dont give me the RB crap because that is not as simple a swap as many make it out to be. it takes more money, time, and knowledge than most people have.

in terms of avoiding the rice rocket trend and standing out and getting respect, i find that with proper tuning and avoiding certain pitfalls you can dodge most of that. seems that people think there are all these different groups of tuners that are rivals and some that get no respect. and that is true to some extent, but what I see more than anything is two groups. one that sticks to their own thing and makes fun of the other guys like dumbass highschool kids, and then the open minded friendly-types that will respect you no mater what you drive, honda or chevy or volkswagon, and how you do it, audio or showcar/lowrider or hotrod/streetperformance so long as you do it with style and taste. I see no point in trying to impress dumbass highschool kids.

In the end that CRX with the B16 is alot like a 240 witha SR20 already in it. I dont think you could get a Silvia/180 in the US for anywhere near 3200. that seems like a good deal(depending on the year/trim level/condition of the car). I hope I helped in some way. oh and as far as i know there are no plastic body panels on CRXes.

why do you keep referring to people in high school "dumbass kids"?

i would pick the 240, simply because i like the all around aspects of it, meaning the decent stock power, potential, good looks, and mainly because it's RWD.

but if he wants the crx, then why try to change his mind? my friend has a civic hatchback with a gsr motor in it, and its pretty quick. i almost bought a prelude, then decided i would rather have another 240.

I really hate to be the devils advocate, but if he just crashed a Honda and is allready looking for other Hondas, doesn't it stand to reason that he wouldn't be as interested in a Nissan??

As far as better swapability, his other option is a car that has allready been swapped. For the money on a swapped car he can drive to and from work tomorrow, the CRX is clearly the better choice. Otherwise he will have to buy a 240 and do the swap. That takes time and money.

Unfortunatly rear wheel drive is not what every one is looking for.

IMO, tell him to get the CRX if he needs a car to drive immedeatly. Tell him how awsome 240s are if he has time and money to spend. That is just practicality speaking. (my real response would be a little different.)

besides the 240 there are other cars that are just as good or better on a budget... the mr2 for example. its lighter than the 240, midengine, rwd. the early ones had superchargers and the newer come with turbos. lets all keep in mind stock 240s arent the best car out there by far.. it takes the swap or turbo ka to start kicking others arses badly.

he had dry rotted tires on. He didnt want to pay for new tires for winter (on his stick steel rims) and payed for it with his car. I think he learned his lesson.

240: RWD, fewer 240's around so they stand out more, roomier inside, nicer looking. Civics are good cars too. Both are reliable, tossable cars. It all depends on what you want. If you want better gas mileage and do a lot of city where smaller is better, or live where there's a lot of snow, you might want a civic over a 240. Me? I bought (and am happy with) a 240sx and not a Civic/Prelude.

Here's a thought - why be so concerned with what your friend drives? If it's not your car, and if he wants a CRX, who gives a rat's ***?

Well put, as usual.

I'd take a B16 CRX over a 240, since it would wipe its a*s with the 240. But then again, I'd never buy someone else's sh*t (as in something that is already modified).

I don't understand some people's points, I'm sorry but a stock 240 is garbage. It's underpowered AND the suspension is soft, I don't see what is redeeming about that. But I guess this was what 89sxRCR was getting at...
