there is some debate as to whether the bar and plate or tube and fin designs are better, but from what i can rememeber i think the APEXI GTR was the most popular of the bunch (i think it was bar and plate). for through flow (for radiator cooling) and cooling capabilities, and oh yeah its the most expensive of course...

I know whats what, I was just wondering what kit you run since CA specifec kits seem hard to come by and was asking about what you had to do to install it on a CA if it was a SR kit.

I've always heard the Blitz LM has the best bang for buck core available.

Edit: Opps, sorry. People say you have to cut and rotate the cold pipe that connects to the manifold.

For a SR... we changed the piping itself around and thats it no cutting or anything of that nature.

s13 SR20 Intercooler piping on an S13 (Joe's). Some minor trimming/rearranging of pipes involved, but he says it works great:)

So the SR20 FMIC will work with a CA18 with some minor tweaking? Hmm... interesting...

Any which way it goes, you're gonna spend in excess of a good intercooler kit whether you buy a name brand model or get something custom. WE use isuzu NPR with custom 2.5inch or 3 inch piping. Intercooler costs $250 and the fab-work is around $350-$450 depending on size of piping. Messing with the stock SMIC from the SR20 or the CA18 is senseless. And this ios a proven fact. Recipe for a blown engine (SMIC+15psi= new psitons and or headgaskets).

greddy V-spl w/ enjuku hotpipe. I had to cut the cold pipe in the middle of the bend, just downstream from the end of the nipple that I *think* connects to the iacv. I roughened the two cut ends with sandpaper, then put them back together with a 3" silicon hose coupling. Everything else bolted right up. That setup was about $830 shipped from enjuku last week when I ordered it, but I think it's on sale for ~$25 cheaper now.

See the little arm thingy coming towards the firewall off the cold pipe? I used a couple of pre-bent 90 degree bits of vacuum hose I had laying around and just kinda worked them into the IACV, so it is hooked up.

I am using the S13 SR20DET GReddy VSPL kit with a GReddy S13 SR20DET hotpipe. All worked out great for me. Only thing I had to do was buy an extra 3 inch coupler to connect the cold pipe after I had to cut it in 2.

Basically all you do is cut the cold pipe about 3 inches from the IACV port, rotate it about 45 degrees to point to the throttle body and you are done! It was pretty easy.

I got my GReddy from ebay for 705 shipped, so it was a pretty good deal. And BTW Jon, I calculated it out, and the GReddy core is larger (more volume) than the HKS core so that is why I went with the GReddy over the HKS or I would have bought it. Don't know about the Blitz core though, never really considered that kit.

If you guys have any other questions, fire away!

BTW.... I had an NPR intercooler on this setup before I bought the GReddy kit, and it was like night and freakin day with a REAL FMIC kit as apposed to doing it the other way.

But for a budget minded enthusiast, the NPR will work out fine. But I had a few extra bucks and wanted a "real" intercooler, so I bought the GReddy.

I'm using this intercooler I got off eBay...

eBay Auction

$250 and its gorgeous:)

Core Length : 21" (525mm) Core Height: 9" (235mm)Core Thickness: 3" (75mm)Inlet Size: 2.5" (62mm)Outlet Size: 2.5" (62mm)End to End" Length: 28" (720mm)

Fills that hole in the bumper almost exactly... the top row or 2 is behind the bumper support, but 90% of it is exposed to oncoming air:D plus $60 for the piping, and $70 for the silicone hoses from hose techniques, I'm under $400!

Sean

p.s. I'm going to be test mounting it this weekend, so I'll take some more pictures then!

I recieved it yesterday, but I'm too busy to try fitting it 'till this weekend... the welds are flawless, and its been polished to a mirror finish. The dimensions are correct, and it comes with some pretty cool mounting points on the top and bottom:) should be a fairly easy job!

Overall I'm VERY impressed with it:D

Hybrid kit, off of ebay. Nice, big, effecient, and cheap. Also came with the hot pipe. I'm pleased! I'll reccomend it to anyone. I bought the S15 kit. I think if I did it again, I'd get the S14 kit.
