i have the boost guauge on the rear of the intake manifold...and even before i redid the timing the turbo was backfiring and not not building boost but now it actually is

something is not adding up. remove your boost gauge from the car. take a small piece of vac line and hook it up under the hood to the same spot it was hooked to. start the car and see what it reads. the car would not run if there was no vac at idle. there might be a hole in the line from the mani to the gauge. Only thing that i can think of for the popping turbo is cam timing, but I would think for it to cause that much air to go back through the turbo it wouldnt run much less build boost.

yeah so i dunno man i am confused myself...i tried everything...the guages cant be bad if it reading as it builds boost....just no vaccum....should i be worried...i tried that previously but before i wouldnt get no no form of vaccum nor was it building boost...so im at a lost now...and as for the popping the turbo was popping since the car started up and before i messed up the timing it was still popping so i dunno wtf

COULD THE POPPING BE ALSO COMING FROM THE COILPACKS MISSING??? CAUSE mine are still missfiring

well I guess it could be from them missing.... get a timing light and check the ig timing to make sure its within spec.

you need to make sure the gauge is bad. get one that you know works and see if it reads the same. If the gauge you have is messed up it could read anything from not at all to just boost or just vac.

I would make sure that the cam timing is set to the fsm. you can pop off the upper timing cover and set the motor to top dead center and see how everything looks. set it to tdc then pull the cas out without spinning the rod. DONT TURN TO MOTOR OVER WITH OUT THE CAS IN THERE and you wont have a problem or have to guess where to set it at.

So let me get this right, it was a fully functional car, like you could drive it around, make full boost, then you took off the CAS and now it has problems?

Set the engine to TDC on compression stroke and then put the CAS in. If the key broke in the cas or cam, look and see where it was, you can put it back in the same orientation even with out that key with out too much trouble.

Just let me know I will let it go for 75+ shipping asis or 100+shipping+ a week money back in case what ever. you ship it back I refund :bigthumb: . shipping should not be that bad. just let me know. I will trade for rb20 stuff, but I doubt you have any of that...lol

You should flip it back over. 90% sure that it isn't flippable. See the 2 slots opposite of each other on the left and right? Notice how they aren't the same? since its flipped over, that's in a different sequence, and that means the ecu fires something in the wrong order.

Get a new cas. I did something similar, so dont feel bad. Fix it right, and you'll actually have a reliable motor. I had to drive mine 60 miles a day to work and back and it was completely reliable.

WRONG, the cas are different, u even know what ur talking about.. he has the later model cas(black plastic housing, key style) n the shaft is different from the aluminum one(star looking shaft) even if he was to get the one ur talking about he would have to rewire the cas n change the cam b/c again they have different style shafts.....

look on ebay there a guy on there that sell them fairly cheap, i bought one for mine when i thought mine was bad but ended up being something else n ended up keeping it just in case later down the road. i try rawbrokerage but he wanted an arm n a leg for one, 400bucks cause it was on a motorset he had.. here u go..
