I could care less about taking work from shops*, you are missing my point, that franchised dealers are the ones resisting the full disclosure........NOT the manufacturers, who are quite open in professional meeting like SAE. State laws prohibit manufacturers disclosure as this would hurt franchises.

The independents have been fighting this battle for years because it will put them out of business [lack of information]. We have tried for years to interest companies into providing us or anybody with a low cost Consult. We have sampled a half dozen [cost $2500] but they were always lacking certain critical parameters.

Normal economic theory agrees that low price and volume should recover your costs, but how many owners buy $200 OBD2 scanners today less than 1 in 1,000 owners. The are something like 135 million OBD2 cars now and [my searches indicate not 100,000 scanners have been sold to the public].........lots in inventory. Sure lots of shops buy them in quanties but not the car owners.

Assuming less than 9,000 actives sold and over half still running and not on the lots say 4,000 potential thus 4 Buyers............being optimistic say 20 buyers at $200= $4,000.

*Even with a Consult most shops/dealers are lost anyway because of the system electronic complexity.

Contrary to popular belief what T3 gets from the Forums we engage in is so miniscule compared to the business requirements.........$6,000 per day is required to keep both shops open.
