nProbe sounds nice to me.
However, at around $500.00 I just think they are pricing themselves out of the DIY'ers market. usually when I'm going to undertake a DIY job I go spend the saved $$$s on the right tools to do the job (unless I can barrow them). That has ranged from $50 to a couple of hundred.
Dropping $500 is a bit steep to get past the Boss(i.e. wife) for approval! Heck, she had a fit when I bought 2 pair of new jack stands and a new floor jack(again, the post lift wasn't going to happen). FYI Sam's club Goodyear 6ton stands $21.99/pair (huge and nice, made by Allied). Michelin floor jack $60.00 3.5 ton, I think, seems really nicely and heavily built. Both a real bargan in my book.
Anyway the nProbe is nothing more than a patch cable unit with some low cost electronics and software. At $200 I think they would capture a large part of the DIY market(and make more $$$s). Yea, they spent the time developing the sowtware and reverse engineering the patch cable/electronics, but the market is limited to an income level that doesn't (for the most part) do it themselves. IMHO
