I laughed like hell at that response. Youre funny.HashiriyaS14 wrote:NO straight male should wear a diamond-encrusted watch. It is man-jewelry, and man-jewelry is ferociously homosexual.
If you're going to spend a grip on a timepiece, do it because it actually DOES something, not because it's shiny. Women buy shiny shxt, we buy functional things.
If you've got ~$2,350,000, you can pick up a Vacheron Constantin Tour D'Ille.
16 horological complications including quarter and minute repeating, Tourbillon, Power reserve, Moonphase and age, perpetual calendar, sunrise and sunset, sky charting, and other awesomeness. ALL MECHANICAL, no batteries, 100% automatic. Only 7 will ever be made and it required 10,000 hours of R&D.
Agreed. I hate gold. I'm not against leather bands, but I prefer them in black. Metal bands are definitely my preference, though.Mr1der wrote:black and chrome or get it the f*** outta here.

no gold or leather bands for me....
Purple track suit, gold watch, and gold chains. That's how I roll.Mr1der wrote:black and chrome or get it the f*** outta here.

So are the people that dismiss a watch just because it's a quartz and not an automatic. I'd rather have a quality quartz than a cheap auto (Invicta, anyone?). I wouldn't shell out $1k for an Omega quartz even though I love the brand, but think about the Bell & Ross Hydromax that will cost you $2K +/- at the regster. It's a quartz, but it's also good to a depth of an incredible 11,000 metres! Overbuilt and unnecessary? Absolutely. But that Vacheron Constantin you posted is nothing to me but the horological equivalent of a garage queen. Additionally, at only 18,000 bph and 16 complications there are far more accurate automatic watches available then the I'lle and last I checked the primary function of a watch is to tell time. It's not even water resistant, say what you want but despite all it's "functions" it's just a piece of jewelry.HashiriyaS14 wrote:First off, anyone who pays more than $1,000 for a quartz watch is retarded.
I bought a nice Rolex Oyster in NYC a few years ago. It cost me $5 (hey, the guy originally wanted $10 for it). I had bought a decent band for it and wore it to a few swanky events. From a distance it looked real. But it was amusing whenever someone noticed it, and I'd tell 'em, " Aww, this old thing?"BusyBadger wrote:

In the end it's all what a buyer wants, I want something I can wear everyday, with a suit or jeans & and t-shirt, in the office or in a wetsuit. That makes my cheap watches from Bulova, Seiko & Citizen and my expensive ones (still deciding on "the one") from Rolex, Omega or Doxa.
This is sort of the point. A two and a half million dollar watch is obviously not something anyone is ever going to actually wear. People would hack off your hand to get it, it's a wearable target.AZhitman wrote:Lastly, who cares? If you can afford a $20K watch, it's unlikely you give a damn about being late a minute or two.
Swatches are cool. I remember when they made the series that had the wireless lift tickets incorporated in them back in the late 90's. Worked at a bunch of euro mountains and a few in Colorado.Razi wrote:I have a black automatic swatch watch.Me likey.

Buying s*** with the express intent of NOT using it is stupid, whether it has diamonds on it or not. People who buy Ferraris to park them in garages deserve to have them stolen and put to proper use. Same for people who buy watches so they can not wear them.BusyBadger wrote:But that Vacheron Constantin you posted is nothing to me but the horological equivalent of a garage queen.
If that's an old watch, would that make it a Fossil fossil??AZhitman wrote:I'll stick with my $150 Fossil.
