white smoke is usually coolant smoke, meaning head gasket is blown from a coolant port to a cylinder---this means you're burning coolant, so car will soon overheat....this produces a "sweet" smell to the exhaust...

blue smoke = oil. from head gasket (oil port to cyl.) , valves or piston rings, usually more serious. oil smoke is thick and nasty.

if its truly white, and NOT blue, you need a head gasket, probably not a whole rebuild. keep track of your fluids, they will help tell the story.

always a chance you have a cylinder not firing too...
