Assembled the front suspension:

Had to cut the brake dust shield to allow the wilwoods clearance:
Image

Safety wired the rotor bolts per Wilwood's install instructions, insures my brakes don't go boom ;)
Image
Image

Here is everything installed in the front:
Image

I had to put the wheels I bought on the front because the factory wheels just hit the caliper. The oem s14 wheels have a slight taper on the I.D. The very edge of the caliper hits the wheel when you torque it on the hub. I'm hoping a small spaced will fix this and allow me to run the stock wheels in the winter.
Image

Cut out a brake line flare fitting from an old master cylinder to install into the blocked port on the 300zx master:
Image

Bench bled the new master cylinder, swapped over the plastic reservoir, bent the factory brake lines to the correct location, and installed:
Image
Image

After bleeding the brakes I did an alignment:
Image

Here is all the factory stuff that came out.
Image

Here she is in my driveway late Sunday night. I'm going to shake down the car for a couple days, paint the wheels/get new tires, then pull the KA.

Slowly getting there ;)

Started unhooking boring KA stuff:

Exhaust and driveshaft out:

Getting ready to pull:

Here we go :ohno:

Stupid ATF, I let that trans drain forever and it still had 1000 gal of ATF in it

Out with the old:

Before and after a scrubbing:

And lastly got the factory harness out:

Now I'm just waiting for the sikky kit/wiring harness. Hopefully I'll have this thing running by the end of September.
Till next time :wavey:

Build is excellent! I'm envious! Just out of curiosity, what are your plans for the old KA? I might be willing to take it off yur hands if the price is right. PM me if you like. Good luck with the rest of the build man!

Hi everyone, still plugging away on little odds and ends. I'm at the point where I could start installing the LS1 if I had the Sikky Kit. I'm going to call them today and see if it's on its way yet.

Started bolting the LS back together. I had to drill and tap the top of the water pump to vent the head steam ports too.
Image

I had to order 300zx SPL rear shock mount spherical joints. The stock rubber shock mounts in the knuck were twisting and cracking, along with the shock and knuckle hitting/binding. After searching online I found out that the angle that the rear shock mounts in the s13 and s14 are different. If you run 300zx rear knuckles in a s13 you won't have an issue. Nothing an angle grinder couldn't fix :gapteeth:
Image
Image

Got my new tires in, Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2's. 245 40 R17 front and 255 40 R17 rear. I got them mounted on the 5zigen ZR+ 17x9 +27 wheels I got from some dude off his is300. They had stupid dumb stupid stretched stupid tires
Image
Image
Image

I also painted the wheels black.
Image
Image

Drilled out the spot in the firewall for the clutch pedal. Now I have the correct amount of pedals. I also started getting rid of the crap-o-matic stuff.
Image
Image
Image
Image

Next up is banging in the trans tunnel and grinding some tabs off of the T56 trans. Hopefully I'll have everything I need by the middle of September. I'll have another update this weekend probably.

Looks like a fun build! Curious why the staggered tire setup on squared wheels? Props for not doing the stretched thing :D Ha ha

Thanks. The reason for the staggered tires was to just get as much rubber as I could fit in the front and rear with my given offset. I got the wheels cheap and the offset is pretty good for a s14. The 245 in the front is like a 1/32 of a inch from hitting the coilover and sits flush with the outside of the fender. The rear sits almost right up against the rolled lip. I'm not to worried about the little more understeer that I might see with a wider tire in the rear, that's what adjustable sway bars and a heavy right foot are for :gapteeth:

I have a small update with pics coming tomorrow, and also I should have the sikky kit this week so I can get started putting the motor in.

No worries, I was just curious because I will have a 255 up front on my S14, but I have +22 offset wheels so that'll make the difference. Looking forward to videos of the engine :naughty:

Yo know it 2_Liter, I'll have videos of the first start up hopefully by the end of the month.

Here's a mini update:

Installed Poly steering rack bushings.
Image

Cut off the tabs from the trans that would interfere with the trans tunnel.
Image
Image
Image

Notched the rear of the windage tray so the Sikky oil pan will fit per there instructions.
Image

Me and a buddy also beat the hell out of the trans tunnel so the bell housing won't hit when installed.

That's all for now until I get the rest of the stuff in the mail. Till next time.

This build looks great so far man... you are few steps ahead of my LS build so I need you to keep posting so I can keep taking notes lol :chuckle:
I still have not landed on what mount kit to go with. I know Sikky is popular and relatively local for me but I have also heard good things from some of the others. Cant wait to see what you think of the kit when it is all tied together.

Thanks SlideRite. I can tell you that my buddy who did a ls1 in his s13 coupe used the fueled racing kit and had no problems at all. I've been hitting him up here and there for info on the swap. He did his about a year ago. I was on the fence about going ls1 or fully built KA-T until he let me drive his car  Here's a pic of it after the swap, super sleeper.

Had a little hiccup with the power steering line not being included, but Sikky got them shipped out right away after I called.

Installed the slave cylinder only to have the aluminum fitting for the remote bleeder strip. The start of the threads were a tiny bit messed up and after tightening it it didn't feel right so I took it apart to find no threads left. Again Sikky was quick to help me out and shipped a new one along with the power steering lines.

I'm almost at the point were there is nothing left to do until the harness arrives.

Got the drive shaft in, I'll take a pic of it installed later:

Here is the shifter, if it sits weird when the center console is installed then my buddy is going to help me modify it.

Ran the oil filter lines to the relocation housing:

Fuel filter and lines installed:

Had to move the A/C dryer, got the compressor bolted in and the lines installed. The sikky ac kit isn't compatible with kouki's for reasons I found out quickly. I made some mods to get it to work.

Here is how she sits. I also got my heater lines all figured out, I'll post a pick when I hook them up for good.

Thank you, yep at this point I need the wiring harness to really do anything more. I'm going to run my two gauges and put the center console back in, but that's really all i can do for now :frown:

I got my front lip in the mail yesterday so I installed that.

I don't have a bunch of pics of the process to follow, I was working all weekend by myself and was mostly focusing on getting everything done.

It was such a (female dog) to get the ecu plug through the firewall. Took about an hour and required the glove box being removed and the AC+blower motor assemblies being unbolted.

Image
Image

Jump to everything pretty much together
Image

Dakota Digital Speed correction box and ecu all hooked up. That ecu is a monster, gonna try and fit it in the glove box.
Image

Girlfriend thought my car was a little dirty
Image

Everything ready to go, all systems check, prepare to fire.....
Image
SIKE

First problem: The battery was dead. I had it charging for a couple hours, but it was enough. I put the charger on engine start and tried again. Turns out the battery wasn't holding a charge at all so I got a new one.

Second problem: the car did absolutely nothing. Turn the key and not a single thing happened. I wen through some trouble shooting and after confirming power/signal to the starter I confirmed that the starter had to be bad. Well needless to say I was pissed  The passenger header had to come back out in order to remove the starter. Long story short the starter was a turd and I got a brand new one from advanced.

Third problem: So with the starter in I was ready to crank her over until I saw oil pressure. This time it actually turned over and everything seemed good. I then installed the wires/plugs and put the fuelpump fuse back. Now for the moment of truth.... crank.... crank....crank... :wtf2: Another long story short thanks to the internet I had the feed and return lines to the fuel filter/regulator backwards

Finally after many many many long hours and busted knuckles I could finally say..... SHES ALIVE!!!!! It obviously was super loud with the open headers, but it went right to 1000 rpm and idled pretty smooth. :woot:

The next night when I got home from work my buddy followed me as I drove to our garage/shop. The car was running like poo and wouldn't go faster then 25 mph. It also wanted to stall every possible chance it got. The 10 min drive took 30 min. When I finally got there we pulled a multiple random misfire and o2 sensor bank 2 CEL codes. I pulled the plugs and cleaned them, and we checked the wiring to the o2 sensors. In the end we figured that because the o2 sensors are at the very back of the long tubes that they were picking up fresh air causing the motor to run rich and foul the plugs. So we stopped worrying about it and got to work on the y-pipe.

I wanna thank all my buddies who stayed up till 1:30 getting this exhaust finished, most importantly Phill who pretty much did most of the work and all the welding :bigthumb:
