i opted for this ichiba y-pipe because i have read many unfavorable reviews on megan products. i understand majority of the forum members are satisfied with their megan exhaust setups, but if i can get this ichiba y for under $140 it would be a steal. IMO the welds on this ichiba are nicer than the megan. while im posting, id like to ask, would it be possible to remove the heat sheilding from the stock y pipe and put it on whatever aftermarket solution i purchase?

^ another option would be to pick up a used HR ypipe from a G....those go for dirt cheap on G forum classifieds...and worse case, if there is a fitment issue, a little modification could be done.

...as far as using OEM heat shields to your aftermarket purchased ypipe -- not sure if you can since the inlet as well as the outlet diameters will be larger than OEM... besides, the Stainless Steel looks better

I have the full Megan exhaust and have had zero issues... when I purchased my set, I went to the Megan corp directly to inspect their work on the exhaust kit and talk with the guys about their other products... Although I don't have the Megan Ypipe any longer (which came off of a G35)-- since I switched to the MotorDyne xyz pipe (ypipe redesigned) the Megan exhaust does stand up to quality.

Let us know if your ypipe fits...it'll be good news for the M35x crowd....cheers.

Greetings! to all who have been patiently waiting for the results of my experiment, the verdict is in. i attempted to buy an ichiba y pipe for a g37 for around $150 which i thought to be a pretty fair price, the dealer counter offered $224 + $46 dollars shipping! i kindly thought he could stick that offer up his a**, so i continued my research and found the M2 Y pipe for the VQ37HR. I read many favorable reviews on this y so i bit the bullet and ordered for $140 - Shipped. The quality of this Y is excellent. clean welds, sturdy flex pipes, and most importantly, a CLEAN, PERFECT fit! i purchased new gaskets and cat nuts from infinitipartsonline, to anyone whose also replacing the y pipe, PLEASE replace the nuts that connect the y to the cats, i cant describe how important they are. that cost another $34 - shipped. and to ensure never worrying about seized nuts again i got some permatex nickel anti seize. oh that's right, i forgot to mention how seized the studs on my catalytic converters were. f*** bad. i tried for days to get them off(even cracked a socket!!, ill be including a picture of that), i brought the car to the best exhaust shop in town and they told me the studs would need to be drilled out and replaced. something was telling me that they were salvageable so i declined to have them do any work on my car, later on that day i called a friend at VW who told me he would take a look at them and within an hour the entire exhaust was on the car(in one f*** piece!!!), no fuss! here are some pictures for you guys, any questions please just ask. special thanks to JDMLOVE, BBS, and nino from VW

to be honost, i think i just got lucky. the studs on my cats were really, really bad. all 4 of the nuts had completely seized to the flanges, its seen some rough winters here in the northeast. the cats were hot from the drive to the shop, and they were still very hot while they were on the lift, we sprayed them down with deep creep and pb blaster and hit them with the impact gun and they came right off, i was amazed. after that we used a crowbar to wiggle the hangers out and the entire exhaust dropped in one piece! everything bolted up with no modification needed.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/08-10-Nissan-37 ... 22&vxp=mtr

this came with its own bolts and gaskets, i did not use the gaskets included, they felt like garbage. i did use the bolts to connect the Y output to the Mids. i don't know if i would recommend the bolts though i read that they were also garbage, but i guess ill find out later lol

Yeah I figured it would be quiet, I added just the mufflers to my set up and its really quiet now. So do yu feel any gains in power and will you do any more breather mods fwd of the y pipe?

i haven't opened it up yet to see if i got any real performance gains. i did this more as preventative maintenance, rather than for performance. this whole set up, installed ran me under $600 dollars. :naughty: :dblthumb:

so when i try to loosen up the v-bracket that's holding the y-pipe, one of the freaking but got striped. i think my problem was i didn't use the impact wrench. i did spray the crap out it with PB blaster and yet, it won't budge.

CJ - i'm from CT and you mentioned you're from Northeast - where are you? maybe we can meet so i can check out your setup.

Sorry, i have no idea what your talking about. there was no bracket of any kind connected to MY y pipe. just the 4 nuts on the cat studs, and 2 more at the mid pipe(which i didn't bother trying to get off, as they were rusted and seized even worse than the cat studs). from there was only 6 rubber hangers that were very simple to get out. do yourself a favor, do not do anything without at the least an impact wrench. i don't know if a torch is necessary, but a torch and vice grips might also work. one of the nuts did strip while attempting to remove, i believe they are 13mm so we hammered on a 12mm and the impact gun ripped it right out, it was perfect. i am in new york, your welcome to take a look at it, if youd like. i also just bought some VHT Flame Proof exhaust paint. its said to protect from ever having to worry about things like this again.

good luck

Is it "same" as identical or same as same shape/length but different diameter of the pipe?
If its bigger i might get that since its cheaper than Megan...
Thanks

Way to go! im glad i was able to help! which Y-pipe did you go with? i also replaced my y-pipe along with the rest of the exhaust at 1 time. one of the best investments ive made on my M. i love my setup(however my cat nuts are completely corroded again!!!WTF?!?!), the sound is raw and refined...i truly admire M's with custom exhaust :yesnod

The pipe diameter and length are the same, however they are shaped differently as the x models have a transmission case in the way. X y-pipes are shaped more like a U to wrap around it.

Last Monday I installed a new SS y-pipe that I bought on ebay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2003-2006-Nissa ... 96&vxp=mtr

For the price it was really worth it . As far as install it was a pita taking off the stock pipe , the bolts to the cats were completly melted to the cats so had to torch them off. As far as fitment goes it aligns well to the cats and was about 1/2" shorther to the midpipe used 2 7/8" nipple that went inside both pipes and two gaskets to fill in the space , tightened everything and it worked well w/out leaks. The quality is good, clean welds strong thick flanges and the flexi is also well built. As soon as I started the car I could tell a big difference in sound which put a smile on my face . It goes really well with my megan mid and axles. Much throatier and deeper sound both at lower and higher speed with NO rasp ! I cannot tell about any performance gains or losses yet. Overall really happy with it!
