Ok here is the deal . Just got my 98 S14 few months back .. finally got to drive it fix little issues . and jsut love the car (DUH ).

I know for a fact that my timing chain guides and tentioner needs to be replaced...maybe whole chain i dont know never pulled the cover off to check. I also know clutch is on it's way out.

I have two options i dont know which way to go. I have time, exp and resources for both options .

Number one is Purchase an engine with 25k on it for 720 shipped. then 5spd transmission for 350 shipped with 11k on the clock. while i am at it put new Alt , Rack and starter .

Option two is jsut replacing timing chain both front and rear seals and clutch.

Now obviosly its cheaper to go with 2 but 130k? lil much if you ask me no matter who made the engine higher possibility of gasket failure bearing not to mention lowr compression. Plus to top that off i know oil changes have not been done like they should ... open oil cap stick finger down there pull it out and youll have some mad gunk on it. Same thing with the trans. worn out synchros input shaft bearings shift fork ends etc.

I was looking in to SR20 swap but i dont kow if i want to deal with electrical nighmare not to mention extra 2k at very least. Also i heard emissions may come to VA soon and thats another thing i dont want to deal with.

Got a feeling that most of you will recomend going with first option and thats probly what i should do but i still want to hear your opinion for the piece of mind. And do you think i will be able to get my mohey back if i were to decide to sell this(dont see why but who knows)? Only thing that makes me think twice is that with all money i'd have spend the new drivetrain i can ldo some decent suspention mods and exhaust .

well as for 130k, its not that bad, ive got 150 and ive been beating the crap out of it from 120 waiting for it to go so I have a reason to do the SR, all I do is change my oil. As for the trans, they do tend to go when you beat on them a little but I havnt had any trouble with mine. I do have to admit though, a motor and trans with such low miles would be nice, and you would never have to worry about emissions. A car with such a new motor would be worth a pretty penny, if you could ever bring yourself to sell it . My opinion do the clutch and timing chain, they are relativily cheap and easy to do, and you could throw some S13 DE cams in it while your in there, take the rest of the money and do some suspension and have some fun with the car. If youve got anything left over, take your girl out for a night on the town.
