Well i want to start a project car. It needs to be pre 1974 for smog reasons. I would like a non v8 powered car, I'm looking to find a lightweight or semi-lightweight car to do a custom job on it. custom as in bumpers, sides, fenders, etc. If anybody has a good platform to start on please give me the details (If you have a picture to go along it would be great.) I'm looking to do something simliar to the manta I foundBefore:

After:

Thats what I'm looking towards, total restoration and killer power and looks. So give me your suggestions please. Appreciate your time

The best thing about old domestic cars, is the ridiculously ample quantity of cheap high-quality parts.

Pre 1974? No 260z, but how about a 240z with a 280z turbo swap.

hey appreciate your guys responses, I thought about a 240z but alas i'm 6'6" so thats a real tight fit. That opel up there I've sat in and believe it or not I fit. Also I'm looking for a car with simliar bodylines.. long front, long back... but sporty.

PhaneSoul: I'm really trying to stay away from the muscle cars... going for more of the lesser known cars, ie opel.

Anyway keep bringing the suggestions I'm doing my research left and right on each car I think has potential. Also if anybody has a websight link to pictures and years of all models made before 1975 be great. thanks all

2 door 510 and when you redo the interior, relocate the seat back enough to allow for your stature.

And this one solves the headroom question ...

Triumph Spitfire/Fiat Spyder.

(beware electrical gremlins and tinworm)

EDIT: nevermind, too small! uhhh...try a '71 Buick Riviera boattail. Those are mean-lookin and comfy.

I'm guessing you don't want to do another Opel. Because I think something like a '72 Opel GT would pretty cool. Pretty small though. Or perhaps an older Jag XJS or perhaps an XKE..

Opel GT is a great idea. Sexy little car. but not particularly roomy. That Opel manta fastback pictured (minus the ugly wing) is an excellent choice for a bigger guy I had one years ago. Fun car.Datsun 510 is another good choice and desireable.

If you're thinking American pig iron, 1970 1/2 split bumper camaro's are gorgeous and parts are plentiful.

Lotsa great choices out there.

My vote is for a 510 cause I've always loved that and the pre 69 Novas. But if you are looking for different than a Volvo 1800 would be interesting. Although I'm not sure if it is big enough. They look small.

I think any 70-74 2 door skyline would be sweet, or any old Z car.

Volvo 1800es would be nice I prefer the "wagon" style 2 doors.

I saw a couple old school skyline pictures, but they never imported them here.. so where would I look?

I'd go with a beck spyder (porsche 550) 1,200lbs plus driver with 180hp(type 1) n/a engine. Damn, just add a turbo to it or switch to a 911 engine. A 911 would also be good.

I personally plan on doing a Altezza 3S-GE into a TE27 and a CA18DET into a 510 wagon.

S30s, 510 2/4 doors, and A10/12s are too over done IMHO.

And for the llama non l33ts..S30 = 240ZA10/12 = 1971-1976 RX-3:D
