My bros 89 240 needs an engine and we aren't sure what we want to do. Since I have an sr, thats out of the question b/c itd be too boring. We are hung up on turboing the ka since we have two of them, a ca or an rb25. Why does there have to be so many good options? What would you guys get between the 3 not considering cost and if it was mostly daily driven w/ a little bit of drag racing?Which engine?

If cost and time wasn't a problem why wouldn't you go RB, it will be easier to pull the hp out of than a KA-T or CA. It’s a 150 pounds heavier but with the power I wouldn't mind.

I like the idea of all the power but heard wiring is a pain.

i'll go for ka-t, if you rebuild the engine and strengthen it. ca too old of a technology. rb25 kinda hard to install.

I liked the idea of the ka b/c I had two of them and could build one while had the car up and running. oh they are both 91 ka's btw.

I guess it all depends on how they are built/tuned

Spoken like someone who really knows little about Nissan engines.

The CA is actually more "advanced" than the SR. Cam on bucket (no rocker arms to worry about), square stroke (bore=stroke), shorter intake runners than any other Nissan 4. Yep. SR is the product of Nissans cost cutting in the early 90s.

The RB25 is actually not that hard. As long as you get the mounts from Mckinney or the like to save the headaches, the wiring is really no harder than SR/CA.

KA-T is nice, but yes, needs to be built for high boost. FYI: I have a buddy that has a KADE-T w/ T3, 7psi, stock exhaust and he ran dead even with another fellow that I know SR T25, FMIC, 3" turbo back and 14psi. He has a vented WG so it sounds straight EVIL at WOT. He did it on the cheap as well.

For a daily driver I say KA-T honestly. I LOVE my CA, but the fact that it is pretty torque less makes off boost passing/cruising crappy. The KA-T will also be able to use everything that you already had under the hood (sensors, wiring, etc) that makes a JDM swap a PITA. But any built engine/swap will have its fair share of headaches.

I am trying to justify getting a zenki hatch to drop my CA into and trying to get a RWD SR20DE for my chuki coupe for daily driver.

Even tho I joined the Sr crowd I'd say different is cool so i'd lean to CA and Rb20 (rather than 25, U save weight this way and a 2.0 liter inline six is a very elegant set-up. )

If you are interested in being a bit non mainstream; the CA18 and RB20 swaps have a little bit of rarity in most places of the country and are a bit unexpected by many yet are powerful.

I know they are not rare in CA or FL, but most other places they are.Since my favorite choice RB20 isnt up, there I'll vote CA18det.

Fred..:)

Ford 5.0Light compact and powerful. Not only that, there is at least one person here that could tell you how to do it.

im aiming at a ca now ... i cant make up my mind ... so ima go for affordability also the fact that most parts can be bought at the dealer/store for a ca makes me feel more secure ... im in New Mexico so id hate to wait months to get a part for a sr or rb .. cuz the local shops here pick *** ... so i vote CA

Wow its nearly evenly spread. I voted kat only b/c I was tired of clicking the see results button all the times and it happened to be first on the list. So its really one less than it is.

What about a Ford 5.0 wouldn't be good for a daily driver? In a fine state of tune you can do 22+ MPG on the freeway. Nearly as good as the factory KA. :)

My sr gets 23mpg when I get on it a lot and the best I've done city driving was 27mpg. I'm sure I could get better mpg on any of these engines vs the 5.0. I'm not trying to say its a bad engine but I do kinda like turbos vs. displacement. I know you can put a turbo on a 5.0 but I just don't think a 5.0 swap is something I'd want to do.
