I just got one of those Tom Toms that walmart had on sale for black friday and was wondering where everyone mounts their GPS. I would put it on my windsheild but i dont like the idea of having it up there in the view of the road. So where do yall mount your GPS beside the window? pics would be awesome too in helping me find the perfect location. the S13 dash isnt really flat anywhere so thats why im asking.

i put mine in the center of the windshield as low as possible. never had any problems. whereever you mount it, make sure its as low as possible, not because of view being blocked, but because when the suction cup fails and it falls, if its too high it WILL put a nick in the dash. happened to me on a trip to oklahomo. i was pissed

my gps tells me the roads that I should turn to and prompts me on time -also where to merge. I got it for cheap as well. refurbished garmin streetpilot with bluetooth (great for speakerphone) and AM receiver for live updates on constructions and delays. I have it on the center of the windshield, low. If you have to look at it more than half a second, return it and get a new one. Also I am kind of tall (6.3) so it's not in my way.

Mount it on the top left!! this and radar detectors work awesome there and stays out of thiefs site from outside the car if u got a tint strip on top of your windshield, stays out of my site of the road and im 6'4", it also gives it a nice clean look, the map is right in your site/reach when looking left, just run the wiring up the A-pillar. the only thing that its gonna block ur view of is birds meng, you should be good. itll never fall off if u clean both surfaces and stick it on right. and the best part is ur passengers cant ef with it let me know what u think

that sounds like a good idea but i dont think the cord for the charger is that long. maybe i could charge it when im not using it and then i can see how the battery life is by putting it up there.

i got the one in the green box, the one that was like $59. i didnt go to walmart to get it, my mom knew someone that was going so i gave them $100 to get me the better one(blue box) but i also told them that if they couldnt get the better one then i would take the cheaper one. I went to Northern Tools to buy a 189 piece socket set for $62.99 and its noramlly $119.99, there was a very small line there and i was the 6th person in the door so at least i was able to get one thing that i wanted.

I mount mine in the top left corner of my windshield when it doesnt need charging. and the tint strip i have on the windshield hides the marks left by the suction cup and the tom tom!

I've put it on my driver side window so i can see it easily, you can see the mirror, the GPS, and the cluster, it was the best IMO.

Also have tried the moonroof but the focusing seemed a bit dangerous from nearsight (looking at the GPS) to farsight (looking at the road) I can see where that would be dangerous.

I got rid of the GPS since i don't really use it, I just use my phone and it fits right in the ashtray.

I like to mount mine just to the right of the hump of the instrument cluster and down just about as far as it will go. Keeps it out of the line of sight pretty well(granted I am tall) and its in a spot that is easy to glance down to.

i want to relocate my head unit to the either of the glove boxes and then make a mount for the gps to go where the head unit was and then take abs plastic and cut a whole that the gps fits right into. its a rough sketch, just an idea. this would look clean and mostly be out of thieves eyesEDIT: this would work best with a larger gps because it would fill the double din than. im guessing yours is the smallest they make for $60

For that, I have always wanted the Pioneer Avic-n5. Single din flip out module, DVD, Nav, Sat radio, CD, GPS, and even a sweet accelerometer (how many G's your pulling) It's about $900 http://cgi.ebay.com/Pioneer-AV...cc3c1

^yea those are so nice. id even rather have the kind that are already double din so that fit in there perfectly so they dont have to slide out. theyre much cleaner imo. putting a portable nav in there like i said is just much much cheaper.

true but a GPS that fits the 2 din spot would be costly enough. Plus i need the other din for AUX switches. If I didn't I'd get one of these http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Pionee...91ddd

I had mine mounted on the dashboard itself right next to the temp gauge. Mine came with those plastic sticky pucks if you will that you stick to your dashboard then attached the suction cup to that.

That setup lasted maybe a month then the puck feel off, my gps now resides as far down the window on the left side of the gauge cluster.

yeah im kinda worried about how long the disk stays in place and if it leaves any residue on the dash if i decide to remove it.

FolkertSXits a 3.5" touch screen so yeah i think it is the smallest one they make and $59 was the black friday sale price, i think they are $99 regular price so its still a reasonable price. the first thing i did was connect it to my computer and made sure i had the most up to date maps.

Wow How exciting after days of going thru the forum I can answer a question.

Since My speedometer is very unstable I have mounted it on the dash right in front of speedometer. Reception has been very good and I have it wired through acc and plug is mounted above foot rest . It turns on automatically and away I go.

whats really dumb is that the power cords for a GPS is so short that you cant put the GPS where ever you want to put it. which gives a good reason to ask because smart/safe drivers dont want things on the windsheild blocking any view of the road.

i found a 6ft long one but i would like one even longer, i might just have to add another 12v outlet to my car so i can mount it where i want to, because i wanna keep the interior looking really clean and want to hide the wire for the GPS.
