I'm just under 60k (58xxx to be exact) and I changed them out. Might as well replace them while getting the 60k service...

Unless there is some running reason I don't see the need. But if you are removing them anyway for inspection, upgrades, etc. then yep, the labor is the same. If they are removed because of some other procedure of course, similar to me replacing the water pump on my other car when I changed the timing belt at 100k, or changing out a heater core when you disassembe the dash to work on another problem which you pretty much have to do to replace the heater core on this car. That car is running fine at the moment with 150k on its plugs, time to replace them.

Based on what I've seen of the plugs at 60K on two G cars, I think that is a great idea!!

you probably didn't buy the right plugs. You should use NGK plugs.

My newly acquired coupe has 66K kms. I'm pretty sure this has its original plugs.

I'm going to change them tomorrow maybe, hopefully Canadian Tire for once carry them over the counter. I know CT has lots of NGK platinum and copper.. I'll might stay with factory heat range.

Oh my, now I realized that there's a bit of work reguarding the spark plugs. If I'm to do this, I will only put a step colder plug (just for the sake of the work involve) and I might just end up cleaning the throttle body and engine bay too.

I'm assuming I have the standard temp. range and the engine feels so smooth; I'm now confident installing a step colder plugs. Problem is where to find them. Nissan Dealership?

Is this right? NGK PLFR6A-11 is a step colder?

it is never a good idea to try and fix something that isn't broke.

This chart will confirm when it is time for me to change my plugs.

Preventative Maintenance - why do we do this? It's not broken, but I'm a big fan of it.

Yes, you can wait until your plugs fail....just hope you're not mid-way between NJ and FL. Hey, but if you are, then you might be in NC, so stop by for some BBQ and we'll do your plugs here at the house!!!

How far are you from the Smithfield, NC outlet mall at exit 95 on I 95?

I expect to be there on Sat Dec 5th for about 2 hours late morning with the wife while she shops.

You will be about 3+ hours east of me.

Bob Garner's Guide To North Carolina Barbecue rates White Swan's Q as very good. Just off 95 at exit 90Smithfield Chicken 'N' Bar-B-Q is supposed to be pretty good.If your wife shops like mine, you might be eating lunch and dinner there!!

rpm240sx wrote:HAHA why are we getting so dramatic about changing plugs? If you drive hard and feel like spending a few bucks on some good ol' preventative maintenance then go for it. If you feel the need to wait and do what the manual tells you then by all means wait. I understand the point of, "if it's not broke don't fix it" but if you have the wallet and don't mind preventative maintenance and like to play it safe then change your plugs. I myself change plugs every 50-60K I too have a heavy foot though.
Because Pfarmer has this need to argue over aspects of our vehicles that he doesn't know about, but insists isn't necessary, causes problems...etc.

Very annoying at times.

I would venture to say that the majority of people who will read this thread will fall into the "above average" category for aggressive driving. The G35 IS driven by slow "grandma" types, but realistically, it's a high powered, sporty, GT vehicle and people usually utilize that power at one time or another or another or another.

With that being said, I'd check my plugs at 50k and 75k miles. If they are in good shape, then leave them be. If the gaps are off or there is some other evidence of wear, replace them. $72 is very inexpensive preventative maintenance.

no need for a colder plug. You're about 60hp short of needing colder plugs
