I've read a ton of online stuff regarding Octane and have basically come to the same conclusion.....higher octanes burn cleaner and are probably better for performance....though not entirely related to fuel economy.....Anyways...

Im getting an ATROCIOUS 11 MPG from my Infinity I30-T Automatic w/ 78k mi. Mostly mixed driving as I live very close to work but putt around often within a 30 mi range from home. I've had some problems with my I30 before (mostly coil and error codes as a result)....had a a horrible performance issue for a while which turned out to be a bad MAF.......

My car is probably due for some serious love right now (had it 5 yrs) and considering new belts, transmission and coolant flush, need to replace starter (grinding a bit). she gets her oil changed like clock work and using a full synthetic...though Im not using a long life filter since I switched to longer oil change intervals (5k)...on 2nd oil change since the full switch....

Does someone have tips for my mileage? Got no engine lights or other trouble lights...and Im very ready to go out and buy a diagnostic tool and start some DIY repairs....any advice?

1. Diagnostic Tool?2. Mileage problem?

Im using regular gas as the price is through the roof (tho I always used reg)...thanx alot for any help.

Don't forget your fuel filter. My mom had a 97. When we changed the fuel filter it was coming out of there black It picked up 1-2 mpg after we put the new one in.

i believe so. Purchase a Haynes Auto Manual for your car or a Maxima, and find it in the directions. You may not have to take off the intake if you have a ratchet with plenty of elbows and the proper socket.

i hope i helped some

On another note. I am running the 44k BG fuel system cleaner in Lightsout right now and she's getting better performace already. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Next i'm replacing the Fuel Filter b/c my max's got 144000 Miles

When I bought my Maxima 2003 SE it had around 117k right now I have around 123k and make around 150M on one tank. I usually tank 15-16 gallons of gas so if I count it is around 9-10 MPG in a city. It looks peaty bad. Maybe I should go to the Nissan or any other auto repairing shop to check if I have everything ok? I am not good in a mechanic of the car so if any body could tell me what can I do to improve my mileage it would be grat!

PS: This Y-Pipe where I have to go to instal it in the car?

Any Auto shop should be able to install it yourself, but it's soooo much more fun doing it yourself

things i've done to help mileage:1. 44k BG Fuel system/Engine cleaner(purchased at Nissan Dealer) It runs smoother now!!2. Did 3 transmission drains in 2 days...then filled will Royal Purple Sythetic transmission Oil.3. Tire pressure was LOW, filled to Performance Tire spec of 40psi.4. Oil change w/ Mobile One 5w30 Full Sythetic and Lucas Oil Sythetic Stablizer.5. wax the car...no really...well it helps in the wind tunnel for NASCAR, so why not 6. carry less junk in the trunk.7. clean Stillen Filter

Need to do:1. R&R Fuel filter2. remove Stillen muffler, then purchase and install Cattman Y-pipe, mid-pipe, high flow cat, and muffler.3. remove Stillen Short ram Intake(WAI), then Install Cattman CAI4. Install CF hood and trunk deck for a slight weight reduction.

I replaced the fuel filter in the tank(access under rear seat) and the O ring for the tank...and MAN WHAT A DIFFERENCE. My car is nearing 145K miles, and i got my full throttle response back with changing the filter. Also, the engine doesn't sputter AT ALL(it did very little before). In addition to all that the idle is PERFECT, and she accelerates quicker b/c the fuel pump doesn't have to work soooo hard!!!!!

Make the change, and put in a new filter in your MAXIMA...here's how:

Does anybody knows where can I get the Y-Pipe for Maxima 2003 SE. I was looking for it in an ebay.com and cattman.com but I could not find it for this model of Maxima!I found only those:

YG5/CA1999-2001 Maxima/I30; CA/NLEV or “50-state” emissions specification ONLY.

YG51999-2001 Maxima/I30; Federal emissions specification ONLY.

YG41995-1998 Maxima/I30; All

Thanks for any info!

PS: What does it mean "“50-state” emissions specification " or "Federal emissions specification ONLY."????

nice work on keeping to the thread topic. sheesh.

Anywho. I've noticed a nice increase lately (more highway driving lately). I'm up to 25mpg or for those of you who like less accurate measurements I get about 400miles to the tank

i just know someone is going to call me a liar but when i bought my car i got it in a place about 11 hours away from where i live and on the drive home i managed to pull off 540 miles in one tank, so 35 MPG. I have never ever again gotten even close to this usually only 350 miles.. but i guess that shows what its capable of..

I have noticed that if i drive over 75mph i get much more miles to the gallon. I can confirm with what you are saying is possibly true.
