i dont really like the T67, T78, i would like to do it with a smaller turbo (even though it will be a track car, i dont want to wait till next week for it to spoolup;) )

so...stage V t3/t4 (laggy, but definately streetable)GT series turbo (not as laggy)MTS to4R (lag city compared to GT, but lots o power)

PLEASE tell me you aren't serious in this comment. a gt35r is laggier then a t-67 hell its on par with a t-78. this ball bearing isnt a magical feature that will totally outspool a non ball bearing turbo. unless wer are talking gt2510-40 these arent quick spooling turbo's. people have really misinterupted this ball bearing idea lately. there is no reason to pay that much for a turbo alone then when the seals blow come to find out you cant rebuild teh gt series turbos. there is no company in usa currently with the capablities to rebuild the bb chra. that means you have to buy an entirely new turbo. what is your horsepower goal? driving style? what power band do you want? ask yourself these questions first.

Turbonetics suck!! They come with honda drag gen turbo kits. I would say on an adverage 3 out of every 5 end up with blown oil seals/thrust seals in less that 3 months. Event he hi-fi series arnt any good. And there customer service is just a guy that says send it back and we will rebuilt it for 250bucks. Just as they did mine. then the seal went out again in just a few months. Check out honda-tech.com Go to forced induction forum and search for turbonetics. There are some of the best turbo guys out ther on this board, Including tom payn creater of the dart block, stoopid many cars in the mags, and robert martain who makes his own cams and his full line of products. If your gonna get a turbo get a garrett as the run on big rig trucks for tons of miles no problems. Or get a precision those have a very good rep too. Just search honda-tech and you will find more turbo info than you ever wanted to know

Is it really that laggy? i know it cant be a spoolup king, due to the simple fact it supports so much HP, but i didnt think it would be much worse than a big non-BB t3/t04? Mattback can help answer this. yes its expensive, but there are plenty of turbos that cost a lot more. I'm just looking at opinions and options, thats all

i guess i should say, i thought it would be quick spooling for the amount of power it makes?

HK$ t51R SPL..... yum =)

I saw a s14 in option magazine running one, could have been the KAI version though but I like bigger turbo's for drag racing =)

Lag is not such a big concern with drag racing as compared to road racing.

It was to my understanding that Garrett makes all turbo's for HK$.... unless they have made a drastic change lately. HK$ probably owns the rights to their turbo specs...but I dont see that making Garrett turbo's inferior to HK$ turbo's. I mainly like HK$ because they make such custom tailored and proven/tested "bolt on" equipment, their stuff has been tested specifically for our purposes. When installing a HK$ product, it is always easy, atleast it always have been with me.

I know guys that have been in the industry for a while, some of them are still skeptical of the "BB" advantage. Ofcourse there are other experienced car guys that do believe in BB, alot of them actually. The to4R turbo does not have the BB, atleast not the ones me and my buddies used to run. I had the fourth to4R in the country at that time. If and when I do decide to upgrade my turbo (blow baby, blow!) I will probably get a BB turbo, I want to see for myself if it is truly a "seat of your pants" difference. No other way to really tell =)

I would also like to mention that for the jza80 HK$ makes an adapterplate so you can fit a t51R right on top of your to4R set up... goes from a single port to dual port. The t51R is HUGE... around 1 - 1.15 A/R

I have info on those turbos on my spec page on to4r.com

Thats exactly why....its gonna cost you more money because HKS doesnt release the secret specs of their turbo's, which i guess in turn gives them reason to charge whatever the market will accept.

From what Enthalpy told me his turbo spooled by 5k.BB turbos are slightly more efficient and will spool slightly sooner.Again this all depends.I'll use a honda as an example.I had a 57 trim on a gsr and it spooled 8 lbs by 4k, I took out some fuel and gave it a little more timing and it spooled by 3400.It's all in your tunning.

Well, one of the purposes of the new gt roller bearing is longevity. According to Garrett, it will last much longer (at higher boost levels mind you) than the older T series turbos. Also, the GT35r is not as laggy as a T-78. Just look at the dyno plots from that T78 s14 here and the secret services car...the T78 SR made 200whp@5000rpm. The Secret services car made almost 350.

Yes, the GT35R is laggier than a T67, but have you seen a T67????? Super freaking small exhaust housing! (at least on the s13 kit) i dont think the t67 has the power potential the GT35R does either.

I remember reading somewhere that HKS uses their own turbine housing and just use the Garret compressor wheel and housing. I know they have been using the GT stuff long before it his the market.

with the t-67 kit that comes with a 8cm^2 you can get 500 hp. with the optional 10cm^2 turbine housing expect a 50 hp increase. a gt35r can make alot more but how much do you really need? are you going for all out dyno queen on the rollers or do you want a useable power band good for the track. when i was picking turbos i started with a t04r on my built ca18det. i was suggested if i wanted better track times to go with a t04s but if i wanted ultimate dyno numbers to go to a t51r kai bb. i will be ultilizing the t04r for now and then at the end of summer i will do a max horse power with teh t51r kai on my ca18det. also what have you dont to your engine? are you keeping stock redline? if you plan on keeping stock then NONE of these turbos are for you. i will be bringing my ca18 to about 10k to i can fully use any of these turbos. if you are loking for just the quickest 1/4 you can get and the cheapest order a t-67 kit. with the right mods it will do wonders. if you are trying to get braggin rights then get one of these bigger turbos. sounds like you need to think about what you want alot more and arent ready for any of these turbos.

and yes hks uses garrets chra's but they have customs housings and wheel trims to hks only specs that are unreleased.

Custom exhaust housing?

Available T04R turbine A/R's are .81, .84, .96 and 1.15 from HKS.

It turns out the sc61 uses the same compressor wheel as in the gt35r.However the gt35r uses a gt40 family wheel which has a 2.416 inducer and a 3.227 exducer. So I was right and so was Mattback.
