LOL, that's my idea of free forced induction,we scrapped the black plastic Y pipe and plumbed the AFM up into there, no boost gauge but there is a noticeable push into the seat over 67mph that seems to get stronger the faster you go. Fastest track mph has been 112mph when we almost won a 12 hr event at Seabring

Our next event is a 24 hours of lemons race @ PBIR (formally Moroso) on new years eve.

Dont cringe too much ,it is supposed to be ruff around the edges, our team has spent more $$ on this $340 tow yard car then that guy with tron paint.

The Borla mufflers and X pipe really woke things up as well !

http://www.borla.com/products/product_m ... =2&type=80

Anyone wanting a faster J30 NEEDS to get rid of the stock mufflers, they are a luxury car cork made to muffle the 300Z engine. The PVC intake may look cheezy (there is a penalty for spending $$ on a CAI pop charger unless you shop at home depo) but the black plastic intake Y is molded for quiet operation more then performance.

My apology's to J30 Kidd for hijacking this thread...

We named the car Megalodon but everyone else in the race paddock would simply refer to us as the shark or fish(the license plate area on the back has a talking fish)

Rant Disclaimer... I just returned from a 24 hr event but had been awake for 36 hrs, 6 of witch I was racing my butt of in the J. Yes I have gotten 12 hours of sleep since but am far from right right now

naladude twisted my titty for a second then I stepped back and looked up the definition of ruin:
# destroy: destroy completely; damage irreparably; "You have ruined my car by pouring sugar in the tank!"
# an irrecoverable state of devastation and destruction
# dilapidation: the process of becoming dilapidated
# downfall: failure that results in a loss of position or reputation
# laying waste: destruction achieved by causing something to be wrecked or ruined

The previous owner was doing a good job of ruining this J, he was running from a felony arrest warrant when he banged the front mildly and got towed/arrested, was traveling with a baby, farming super German cockroaches, working handyman out of the car and neglecting the rest.
If I had not come along the next stop was the crusher.

I have done the opposite.

Currently this rescued J has logged 3 hard endurance races ,12 Hours @ Homestead International raceway, 16 hours @ Sebring International and 24 continues hours at Palm Beach International Raceway. 52 hours of trouble free track time has gotten others attention, expect a couple more J30s to suffer the same fate in the upcoming race seasons.
Whens the last time someone can say they were at international race tracks with their J30?
Heck we even drove against Grassroots Magazine, the next event will have some nascar teams (no idea who). Here is a random forum page from this event... lots of pics

Chumpster,
A little history on Nala.
He just got his license not too long ago and got his Dad's J.
Wasn't to long after he thought it was a good idea to drift in the school parking lot and smashed a really nice looking J up bad.
Some kids learn the hard way. :)

Sad, bad things happen to good cars..

No worries I was in some sort of mood to reply where I already knew there was no need to.

I am still sleep deprived, BMW passing drunk and from the unusual format this race was run .. midnight to midnight.

J30T You got me interested on your exhaust setup now, Got any pics of it? Did you keep the cats? Did you use the dual in single out exhaust or use a X pipe going to two mufflers? This is something i plan to do soon, I'm gonna get a pipe bender in the coming months and can't wait.

You can HiJack this thread all ya want lol!

Cats?!? are you kidding? This is a track car!

Ok no pics but heres the best description I can give from memory.

The factory J exhaust exits a small hole (approx 1.75in) from the manifold to a 2.25 inch pipe to enter the cat, I cut the cats , used 2.25 pipe for several inches then made a 45 deg bend(left and right sides) to bring the pipes approx where the factory put the H , at this point I used a 2 in X pipe (a friend had given me) then another couple 45s(with 2 in pipe) to get things back in line for fancy mufflers(also 2 inch) in the stock location under the rear seat area, the exit of the mufflers is a simple downturn.
If you stare at a stock system it is stepped 2.25 down to 1.34 if I remember correctly.

I listen to(erm.. lurk) the 300zx guys fretting about huge pipes, perhaps their exhaust manifolds have bigger exits, ours are tiny so if you do not have headers 2 inch exhaust is plenty.
Pics someday...
P.S. the new years race we topped out(lifted) @ 120mph at the end of a .6 mile stretch.

LOL true it's a track car, just wondering if taking the cats of this car would throw codes and make the engine run like s***.

You say the muffler is actually those two under the rear seat area? Then what the hell is that big thing at the end where both pipes finally go into before it escapes the pipes?

the big thing at the end is just a resonator which on my car i took off cause it was rusting out but all it does is quite down the exhaust . on my cardomain i have a picture of where it used to be and what i put in place of it.

haha yeai do the same thing when i go J/Y hunting. i wish i could find an actual pearl white one. i just painted this one white a long time ago and i cant find a pearl white one at all lol. i just used exhaust piping from advance auto and then we use some solid rod from home depot(i dont remember what size) but i just put up the exhaust and then just bent the rod to size by hand in our vise then welded it together. pretty simple

Cool Cool, By the Looks i thought that's what it you did but had to make sure, God i would love to put some borla exhaust on it like J30t but i don't know if i can just drop that much money at once lol I know they run pretty high. Gotta look into something not so expensive that has a deep sound. I hate the soda can exhaust.

yea it works for now. what i just started thinking about is getting a new upgraded exhaust system for a 300zx and use just the mufflers off it and just weld up new piping. but that i know for sure will be expensive but something worth thinking about for the future for when i park the j for a while and drive my truck to save money on gas since its starting to rise.

The Borla mufflers I have were found under a totaled 2001 monte carlo on the way to the crusher, I bought the whole car to part out.
Conceivably someone could find something worth recycling if they were diligent at the pick and pull .

Any car made pre OBD 2 (<1996)will run fine and with no computer codes with no cats(or mufflers). Any post OBD 2 (>1996) will also run fine with a cat delete but will throw a p0420 code and engine light indicating the cats are "below threshold"

I still have the factory tail fin from our gray car if anyone wants to make a offer...

Awesome J30tchump, I wish your tail fin was the pearl white one.. Damn... lol

I always try to look at exhaust at the pick n pull but our yards like to screw them up during the process of moving them around or just setting them down on the Stands. A few times i saw something i could of got for my truck but noooo they had to of screwed it up lol. Go Figure..

I'm tempted to just get some cherry bomb glasspacks and put them in place, i wonder how it would sound? lol The only good part is there like 20$ OR LESS

Here is a quick vid of the exhaust in question, believe me the camera does loose something in the audio.
