One-out-of-ten,eh???My personal Richter scale was devised during my New York Period,a gloriously drunken, sexist time when my friends and I would sit in sidewalk cafes and over many a carafe of wine and would rank the beautiful women as they walked past....NY has a LOT of beautiful women...
The criteria were stiff.A 10/10 was nearly an impossibility, and even a 9.6 was rare.A niner could still be stunning, breathtaking, and there were many in the mid-8s that were to die for.Below an 8.0,there were still a lot of beauties, but most needed a little work.High Sevens were so-so,but doggiedom approached below a 7.5.
Well, applying that serious criteria to cars,a Ferrari (any Ferrari in any condition except non-running or smashed flat) is a pure ten-out-of-ten on my scale. There is no better.Nothing,in my humble estimation, even can SHARE the top spot.If its' name starts with a "Ferr..", well,it's a ten.
That means such exotica as the Carrera or the McLaren or the Murceliago pop in at 9.7-9.8...The Z,due mostly to a religious attachment that I have for the car,is an easy 9.6,and just below-- at,say,9.5-- are the Corvette, the Lotus, the Maserati Quattroporte, the small Lexus, the odd Porsche and the Audi R8.A couple Jaguars might sneak in there as well...
A rather large gap appears, and the next ranking,9.1, is occupied by the G.It's no 350,but it's a damn good substitute.I just haven't developed the attachment for the car yet.It could be a 9.3 or even a 9.4,someday;who knows???
Nine-oh through nine point four contains the likes of the Mini and the Miata, the Chrysler 300 and the Aston Martins.A Beemer M3-series goes in as well (but not the Z4,which is around an 8.2, just because it's so butt ugly).Caddy's new CTS belongs two notchs below the G,at 8.9.It's a really nice car (I've driven one),but my knee kept banging into the place where the center console joined the dash,so it is practically undriveable for me.Nice car for the rest of the world anyway, and deserving of a nice rank.Mustangs,Magnums, and the like are in the high eights.Despite being NOT a rear-wheel drive car,WRX appears about here as well;I rank it at 8.6,just because it's so damn much fun to drive, along with a few other front-drivers like the Mazda 6 or the Honda 2000.Around 7.9/10 begin the majority of the front-drivers,which immediately lost 2 points from the scale of 10 just for being front wheel drive. If they were New York women, they'd be nice, but on heroin.I don't like front-drive cars,so that's where my scale ends.
