I was taught-- in chemistry class of all places-- that higher octane fuel bonds additional oxygen atoms to petrol to change its flashpoint.
The higher the octane, the higher it's ignition temperature. Hotter, higher rev'ing emgines need fuel with higher ignition temps.

Older cars, that once did well on lower octane fuels often benefit from higher octane fuels when they start to experience knocking and pinging (often caused by fuel igniting too early.)

Higher outcome fuel does nothing for a clean, well tuned Rogue. 87 is fine. But maybe use it when you car is old and knocking about? Otherwise save the money.

Good day to all. New owner of 2016 rogue, also new in this forum. Anyway, we just got our new 2016 rogue last week in odessa tx, then drove it home in alpine tx, which is 200 miles or less. By the time we reach home, i needed to refuel, unfortunately the gas station ran out of the 87 octane or unleaded, the available is 91 octane, so i have no other choice and fill the tank with the 91 octane or super unleaded. My question is, will it do any damage to the engine or something? And after emptying the gas tank, then put 87 octane or unleaded, will it ok?

Pardon for my ignorane re about this stuff, this is the first time we owned a car.

TIA

Welcome noms23, going from 87 to 91 back to 87 will have NO affect and it will be ok. Using anything above 87 will not help or hurt your car it will just put a "dent" in your wallet.

I recommend reading over your owners manual.

there is nothing special about the engine to require anything higher than regular. unless someone is an experienced mechanic (or "car guy/gal"), they are just a dealership employee. trust half of what those people say.

I also have a question : can I add Sea Foam to the gas, especially in real cold weather and once every oil change ?
