I was considering purchasing a jdm 180sx cluster and having LSAuto convert km to mph and calibrate the rpm tach for a clean interior. But it seems a little pricey with the cost of buying a cluster and paying to get both tach's calibrated. Are there cheaper alternatives??

I've read up on this a lot lately. For the speedo i got ahold of a z32 n/a speed sensor to swap out and apparently the speedo will work fine that way. For the tach i've read up that the tach from a j30 is a direct swap and works good. I just ordered a j30 cluster off ebay for $40 shipped and i plan on doing that swap this weekend when it gets here. So i should have a working speedo and tach for $40.

I dont see why not. i dont remember where the thread is, but it says you can just swap in the j30 tach into the 240 cluster and it works as it should being a 6cylinder tach. There was also another older maxima tach that could be used as well i think. I'll be doing this swap friday so i'll let you know how it goes.

I already have the j30 tach and doesn't look right. I may source the dakota digital and get carl to do the speedo. That or get a na 300zx speed sensor.

Do you mean it doesnt look right appearance wise or not accurate? Ik they look a little weird in the cluster, but as long as it does the job its no biggie.

Whats wrong with adjusting the pot on the DOHC tach. Its not exact but pretty damn close. That option costs zero dollars.

I can also recalibrate the tachometers to read correctly with these swaps...and for a whole lot less than ls auto.

Hmm where to start

This is my experience with the tach. I recalibrated the Dohc cluster by taking apart the cluster and turning the adjustible resistor. I turned it all the way the wrong way and it said i was doing 7k lol >.> at 2k. So i turned other way and and it was spot on at idle but here's the problem. when i tested it at higher rpm the reading on the tach was higher then what was showing on nistune. the difference was linear to the rpm as it rised but the difference was 100-500 rpm as it rose to redline. so full boost for me was 3.2k but it was reading 3.5k. i drove like that for a while but got edgy. so i got r32 cluster and switch tach because it read up to 9k. when i took the cluster apart i looked a both tach and everything board wise was the same just the different face plate. so when i put everything back it gave me to same reading as dohc but it went up to 9k instead. so it is up to you on what you want to do. the r32 tach i have look good in my hud dohc cluster because of the single blue gauge in middle but on a analog gauge it will look a little funky.

I'll get a picture of my take later.

good luck

Can I have it? I'm trying to make 1 good hud cluster.

I ran a maxima tach from a 90se or a 92SE. Its decently accurate and I had it laying around. It was a white face gauge so it stuck out. The GXE gauges are black face like the s13's.

Keep in mind not many factory nissan tachs are going to be that accurate. Yours sounds pretty normal having that much variance at redline.
