I'd be very suprised if a school network was not protected by some sort of firewall running NAT. Basically, if you go after it, you'll not only be getting this one guy, but everyone behind that device.. not a recommended course of action.

EDIT: I meant in terms of DOS attack/nuking/etc.. you can still report him to the school. Chances are it's a violation of terms of usage.

And "my ip" is a 127 loopback IP address. Any address in the 127 range is merely looping back and pinging your ethernet interface. LOL.

Any open ports that you guys are scanning are open ports on your own workstation.

Man, this is funny.

Oops, I wasn't thinking ... I missed that 192 address being internal entirely! :oface

FWIW, I did not try the 127 address (because I recognized that one!) but I did ping the 192 address. Surprisingly enough, it responded to the ping from within our firewall, but I just tried it again from outside and it obviously timed out. Somewhere in our work network, a machine is responding to that ping ... hmmm!

This thread reeks of n00bs and empty threats. Even if MM could get my IP, then could get past my router, then could break into my network and finally, my system, I'd be back up and running MINUTES after the hack with another box examining my router logs and event logs to see who it was and what they did.

I don't do this crap for a living because I'm lucky.

But then again, the only person who seems confident that he could do any breaking in this thread didn't even pick up on the 127/192 joke, so I'm not worried.
