I would love to own a big warehouse, then divide the inside in to separate garages, each with it's own lift and air compressor, then rent each out to people who need a space to store and work on their car. Each garage would have it's own lock and of course the place would be crawling with cameras.

But I that's EXACTLY what I need. A clean, secure place with a lift and good air to work on my car.

I could offer tool rental, or you can bring your own. And of course it would be heated/air conditioned.

Damn, this is a good idea! I should do this.
I thought of this like 2 years ago, if I had the startup capital I would totally do this, but I would have certified mechanics on duty to inspect everyone's work, otherwise you open yourself up to liability issues. I also wouldn't have said space broken into individual spaces, it would all be on giant space and storing cars would only be an option if what you need to do is a long term project.

I've always wanted to open my own tuner shop, complete with a staff of mechanics straight imported overnight from Japan... Seriously though I would have Japanese grease monkeys who know how to get the most out of every mod.

Well instead of having to pay ASE certified techs, everyone would have to sign a waiver relieving me and my company of any liability.

Yep, I meant that every individual stall would be walled in with its own garage door.

I think I need to wait for the economy to turn around then take out a fat small business loan for start up costs and to build an s13 haha

The problem with the waiver logic is that no insurance company will touch you with a 10' pole unless you can assure them that any work done on the premises will be checked by an ASE certified technician. Even if you have a lawyer draw up a bulletproof waiver for people to sign, you still run the risk of being sued in the even that some retard finds a loophole. For instance say you have a customer sign this waiver, then they come in a put brakes on their car, they leave with out having it inspected by a certified tech and get into an accident, the state can then sue you for letting them leave your facility without having a certified tech inspect their work, thus holding you liable and at fault for them getting into an accident. You also have to worry about people doing work on their cars and voiding their warranties, which opens you up to a whole different can of worms. It's just cheaper and easier to have a tech on site to inspect people's work, and help them if need be. Even if the tech doesn't get off their a** and inspects the cars and just signs off on them, that alone is enough to free you from the noose, at that point it's on them since they signed off on any work done.

Do it sooner then later. Real estate prices are still falling so I wouldn't rush into that, but I'm sure there are hundreds of shops going out of business that have tons of old tools lying around... Would be a great time to get started. You idea sounds pretty cool BTW.

I'd love to do big(ger) budget movies (not 48hour indie film festival stuff). Take some classes and do my own stunt driving- hell yeah!

You should look into aviation, and being a helicopter pilot.

Probably somewhat hard to break into, but even dream aside there is quite a bit of work for a helicopter pilot... they are used for all sorts of stuff, from filming to farming.
