I'll have to disagree on the reliability and durability of the E1 in the 320. Mine has no problem with 55-60 mph, starts right up after sitting for 3 months, and gets about 25mpg (WAY outta tune). Those engines are bulletproof.
If it's more power and minimal hassle you're after, then I'd recommend an R16 (Roadster engine).
Beyond that, an SR20DE or VE makes sense, but the G20 does you no good there- you need a rwd engine. Problem is, the trans won't fit the tunnel.
In fact, and A14 / A15 swap won't help either - Trans is too big, you'll be cutting the tunnel. Plus, you'll have to have a rear end built, since the 5.xx rear end ratio won't play nice with the new transmission ratios.
If it were my L320, I'd hit up some of those Puerto Ricans in S Florida and have the E1 rebuilt. Those guys wring a TON of power out of Datsun engines.
For the 411, the answer is simple - Let my guy build you a stroked R16. We bored and stroked ours to a 2-liter for the WRL411 and it's awesome. That's 140+ hp with bolt-ons, and it's OEM. Easy fit and no one will know, since the 411 SSS came with an R16 from the factory.
p.s. Still shopping for a CSP311, almost pulled the trigger on one out of AU. Shipping was the kicker.
