OK, so its official, pager alarms are the best thing since sliced bread....

5am, 12-13-08, I had just finished taking some flu medicine, when my pager alarm starts to go off... I grab my 9mm, and head downstairs to my car.. as I approach, I see a car parked in front of mine and my alarm is going off... I c*** back the weapon and tell the gentleman with my Nav unit in his hands to freeze... I tell everyone else to "get out of the f*cking car" they don't listen, and I notice the driver has a long weapon of some sort in his hands... without hesitation I fire warning shots over his head he drops his weapon( turned out to be the long screwdriver used during the break in) and exits the car, so do the rest of his cronies.. 2 girls and 2 dudes total... I proceed to hold them until the police come... then the dudes turn into crying females begging me not to shoot them ..." dog, don't shoot me man, I got kids, I got warrants, I don't want to go to jail," etc., etc as they walk towards the front of the building, the two guys take off on foot, the girls stay put

In the end, the cops come , I immediately hand over my weapon, and explain to them exactly what happened... turns out, there were 7 other stolen cd/dvd players in the dudes' car.. they were apparently christmas shopping with a Free-ninety nine discount card!

In any case, they tow the car and let the chicks go due to insuficient evidence.... my car window is jacked up, my stereo is damaged, wiring in the vehicle is jacked up... am I mad? .. well, yeah, but there's a few morals to the story

1. The proximity to christmas, and the recent tragic events here in San Diego were on my mind , and those are the main reasons i didn't kill the guy with my stereo (not that I think he deserved to die for robbing me, but because he had a weapon of some sort that was indistinguishable in the dim street light, and legally, I had the right to shoot him if I thought my life was threatened, or if he didn't drop the weapon when asked!)... Honesly, I didn't want that on my conscious!

2. I've said it a thousand times, if you have aftermarket stuff in your car, then get both extended car stereo insurance, and a remote pager alarm for your vehicle. I have the RS-1000 OLED alarm, and this is the reason this situation turned out the way it did. Invest your money wisely!

3. If you are ever in this situation, STAY CALM, BE SMART, and BE CAREFUL. This situation could have ended much worse. Had either of the 4 individuals been armed, I wouln't have hesitated to put them down, but that was not my intention when I approached them. Keeping a level head in this type of situation can mean all the difference in the world in keeping a bad situation from getting worse... for both you and the other individuals.

Be safe folks during the holidays.....

WTF is wrong with people?

Sounds like it's time for you to move elsewhere. It sux that you have to invest so much in order to keep people from trying to take it from you.

Funny thing is, I live in Hillcrest here in San Diego, which is one of the safer areas of the city.... but safe has rcently become a relative term...

La Jolla is the nicest, safest area of San Diego, and they've done a few home invasions there recently. With the economy this jacked up, crime is up all over the place!

That plus Obama's election caused a massive gun shortage in the country as people all went out and purchased guns in fear of major Obama gun law reforms!

In any case, I hope everyone is more vigil and aware of their surroundings during these rough economic times. I don't think anyone is safe from being a victim of criminals, and apparently, the new growing trend is for criminals to target the previously untapped resource of "nice neighborhods"

In any case, before the SOCAl meet today, I heaed over to my local gun store and purchased another home protection tool... a pistol grip mossberg 500 shotgun! Again, better to have one and not need one!

Yeah, I understand. I live in a great neighborhood where only the corner house next to the main road has been broken into and that has only happened once in the 10 years I've been here.

I just hope they don't get a bleeding heart judge that will have pity on them needing cash and let them off with less than a slap on the wrist. With the way things go now I hope you don't get sued for making the panzy cry.

hey rjdmmfl1

I live up in Mission Valley go up to Hillcrest sometimes. Interesting how it happen in a place like that. I live up in the River Run complex for student housing (Art Institute) and I witness a break in here also 2 guys in a truck.

That night they broke into 6 cars and one of them was a friend friend vehicle and all they took was an Ipod.

So far when I had my old car I always made sure I took any visible items out. put it in the trunk or in my apartment.

I might be investing in an alarm system this Christmas.

damn. well atleast no one got hurt. mabye next time you should get some of those big zip ties and have them zip tie eachothers hands and legs so they don't get away.

also what is the parking like there? is it open? do you have some type of a storage unit right infront of your spot. if so you could invest in an wireless IP camera that will stream the video to your pc and record everything. that could help if u need evidence if this ever happens again, hopefully this will be the last time.

Damn dood. That is that BS. Not enough evidence? All they had to do was print your car and they would have had the girls. Make those hoes flip on the guys. Shame.

My respect for you just went up. If only everyone could be as responsible as you. Did they ever catch up with the guys that took off? I would have brought my camera and photographed those guys right then and there.

Was your wife flipping out?

Also as someone else said, makes me think about getting the taser, that way if they tried to take off you could put them down without any long lasting effects.

Hope they finally catch those guys that took off, shouldn't be too hard with their car sittin in front of your pad

Hope all goes well with getting your window replaced ...again, and getting your H/U back.

were you planning on upgrading your H/U or are you covered for a replacement

Well, I had the Kenwood DNX-8120... there is no upgrade from there... it's pretty much the best all-in-one unit out there!

Glad to hear it worked out for the best in this situation which could have turned ugly REAL FAST. Just sucks how unfortunate events tend to happen to good people.......but valuable lessons come with it indeed.

Doc, I hate to keep hearing about these problems. I'm glad it worked out relatively ok for you. The only other thing I can add is to make sure you talk to your insurance companies people. If you've got aftermarket gear, make sure it is covered. A situation like this can end up much worse, and if it comes down to your gear or your personal safety (and that of your family, for that matter), your stuff can always be replaced. My last car was stolen along with my entire aftermarket stereo in it. Insurance was good to me and the only thing I really lost out on was the hundreds of hours of my time dealing with the hassle and the new install.

Not that its as bad, but I thought it was worth mentioning that they hit my car that night as well, while I was parked next to Robert. It seemed pretty clear they had marked Roberts car for the hit, judging by the 6 other stereos that were already in the thiefs car. They bashed in Roberts window, and started yanking his stuff out, then they realized my car was there also, and broke through my window.

Now, either they saw my AVIC and weren't interested, or thought they were running out of time and needed all the attention on Roberts unit. At any rate, thats when Robert got the alarm and rushed out the house. To bad I was dead asleep, and his wife was the one that woke me up at couple min after Robert ran out. By time I got out there, the guys were already gone, and the girls were being detained

Seriously though, what drug the situation on long enough for Robert to get out there in time, was the window tint. Without that tint, they would have just destroyed the window with 1 hit. However, they had to hit the window 3-4 times to get through, because the tint holds the window together even though its shattered. So it takes way longer to punch through.

The guys are gonna be caught though. The one guy already had a warrant, and left his own car at the scene of the crime, with his finger prints all in it. As soon as he's found, he's done.

does anyone think that thieves are looking at webpages like this or cardomain to research hits before they happen? I caught someone breaking into my car at a local walmart at night and when I walked up to the car I noticed they had a laptop on and were doing something. I dunno maybe trying to figure out what lug nuts I had on my car or how to steal an altima coupe. But seriously I feel that some people are broadcasting way to much info on these sights and leaving thieves with a christmas list of everything in your car....including what alarms you have. Anyone else agree or am I being to paranoid?

it seems plausible, but there are so many forums and so many cars that it seems sort of illogical to pinpoint a certain car, or many as they did in this case.

my pager alarm batteries have died and i havent replaced them... I am going to tomorrow morning however.

Here's how hard core Robert is.. dude rolled into the meet ridin' on glass..

Literally.. the interior was still covered in shards.. including the seat!

Wasn't stopping him.. kudos sir!

Hopefully he wasn't trying to make diamonds or anything..

Good to hang out and see you again..

There was still glass in his seat!

There wasn't much time to clean out everything in the car and insurance calls and cops made us even more late. We had planned on getting there at 7. We didnt get there till 9:30

well i thought i had all the glass out, but the glass that was stuck down in the seat betwen the seat and the back support, it would come out of there when I sat down... so when I got up, it looked like I was sitting on glass

that's always a possibility, for a while, I took down all my mods and stuff, but then I put em back up...

if we let potential thieves run our lifes, this forum would be a very boring place... its like how we let Al Queida force us to shred our constitution and strip us of our privacy rights....

but I will put out this disclaimer, and this is not a threat, this is not me being big and bad, and trying to prove that I'm hard... because I'm not, I'll soon be a practicing physician, I'm not a thug... but make no mistake... if you are reading this thread and you have plans to rob me or my possessions, know that the last guys got away because I was careless... next time perhgaps there won't be any warning shot, the next time I see someone breaking into my car armed with a weapon... I WILL KILL YOU! Period, THE END!

goddamn, glad to hear u made the best from the situation, down here in texas it must be different..

my situation was similar but at 3:34 am, long story short, my brother owns an 08 cadillac XRL-V, and the guy went down the driveway, drove about 2 houses down, and then i grabbed my brothers M16 and ran out, sprayed the car and i killed him, and the car was totally screwed up due to my nervousness... about breathing and staying calm just didnt go so well..

so then they charged me for attempted manslaughter, they said i had the intention to kill not wound him.. there were 9 bullets in him btw

so i was on house arrest for 4 months. is this **** even right??

this was when the hurricane Ike came, and houston was out of electricty for about 1 month..

I thought you are ONLY supposed to "shoot to kill"... if you are just trying to "injure" someone, doesnt that mean you didnt need to use deadly force (a gun)?

Next time Doc will toss the guy one of his pistols (the guy will catch it, like in the movies) then the BIRDMAN will let off a few buckshots out of the mossberg. Pump action FTW!

Two for 1 discount, you and your friend get shot!

REMEMBER THIS... for when your thievin friend tries to convince you to drive around... 2-for-1!

Damn Rob...that's crazy - isn't this like the 2nd or 3rd time this month or so? I don't think I could live like that - too much fear and commotion - props to you for keeping your cool under the situation and not making it any worse than it already was...hopefully this stuff will stop happening - i'm sure it's taking a toll on your family...

Merry Christmas everyone!
