i dont know what oil my sr20 had, but it had a strange tick when i start it, and it would go away after the engine warmed up, however.... i replaced it with redline 20w-50. and the tick goes away still, but now when i arrive where i am going, i can hear the tick when i exit the car and it is still on.... what does everyone else use, becuase its confusing the sh^t out of me. thanks.

tread carefully here. is the constant noise coming from the head or the block. Because you say tick it sounds like the head. "constant noise is usually really telling you fix me soon or the repair bill will go up when I stop ticking." Because it is constant my first thought is lifter tap my second is timing chain. Many people will say that it is the guide that is above the chain that is easily removable. However, that noise is not traditionally "constant." As far as oil goes I use and highly recommend Royal Purple. A coworker of mine recommends Redline. I do recommend changing your viscosity and weight rating. In all of my customers cars I use a 5w-30. I am also located in Fl so your engine and mine share the constant heat abuse. SR motors as you know are notorious for oil starvation issues. Help your motors blood run go to an oil with a lighter weight/viscosity

thanks, when i was using whatever was there before, it would make a tick noise from what sounded like the valve cover area, and it would go away, and now it goes away, but when i get where i go, it still is there...... i will put a lighter weight in it tomorrow, but if i keep changing the weight, isnt that bad for the seals..... well, please let me know because for 8.50 a quart, its an expensive lesson to figure out on my own.

I recommend Royal Purple. But as these guys say, if your car is constantly ticking, something needs to be fixed.
