btw, I got an advance auto parts adverstisement in the mail(guess I shop there more than a bit).........

5 quarts of mobil 1 synthetic, high mileage synthetic, or extended performance synthetic motor oil and a Mobil 1 filter for- 29.99.......

IM going to see if I can get some of that 10W-40 at that price..... they are featuring the 10w30 so I figure I should be good.

same complaints on toyota 1.6 forum recently also.A friends' RB26 started making horrendous noises his 1st blast at the strip immediately after switching to royal. Luckily got quiet after oil replaced.I won't touch that purple crap

Last I checked it was Castrol GTX 5w-30. Car gets abused on drift duty, not burning any oil. Only time it ever spits oil into the catch can is when I bounce it off the limiter.

I've run ENEOS 5w-40 full synthetic in it too. Pretty good stuff but, to be honest, my engine runs great with the castrol dyno s***.

I prefer the "pure raptor", for small revvy engines. Big V8s like "T-rex" and "HD brontosaurus" for heavy trucks.

i'll probably switch to Mobil 1 later on..

while we are on the subject of "lubricants", not the ones tim uses.., what does everyone use in their transmissions? i run Coastal 75w-90 its GL3, GL4, and GL5 approved..everyone else probably runs Redline..

You might want to flush that out and put in a straight GL4... Those that are GL3/GL4/GL5 are not compatible with yellow metals (IE. our brass synchos), and it'll eventually damage them.

Redline MT-90 is the best stuff I've seen, I personally run Pennzoil Synchomesh but for performance reasons. It's the only brass synchomesh oil we get around here.

i do want to get some Redline, but since the fluid is already in there, and i dont have tons of $$ right now, its going to have to do..the GL5 additives dont start to damage the brass until an acid forms (^250*F), and i dont think i'll have my transmission that high of temps. also, i should be able to get some redline or Royal Purple within the next couple months so im not to worried about it.

I have used Coastal 75w-90 for 6 years with zero issues. I love the fact that its like $5 a gallon. No grinds, no slips, no noises. I tried some of those expensive oils (redline transmission and diff) and it just made noise, ground going into gear, it was awful. I switched back 30 minutes later and its been peachy ever since.

I'm just going on what works for me from experience, but my driveline prefers pure distilled dinosaurs over synthetic crap for sure.

My friends call me cheap, but I'm really just more in tune with my car's specific needs.
