If you're short on cash, a cheap alternative is getting eBay tails and tinting them red

He did.

Here's my main issue with crappy Altezzas. You can't see them. A few years back, I nearly rear ended an S14 that had them because I never saw his brake lights. The light output is just so weak. There's a reason they're not DOT legal. That guy on the-site-that-shall-not-be-named, probably made the situation worse by adding another layer of crap between the reflector housing and the motorists behind him.

My personal opinion is if you wanna play, you gotta pay. The OE type-x lights are great, and while they cost a pretty penny, they're worth it. If Nissan had ever made an upgraded tail light for the coupe, I would have jumped on them regardless of the price.

you are 100% correct. I have a set of ebay tails for my vert and they kind of suck in the day time. I went back to OEM until I finish retrofitting LEDs into the ebay tails.

I'm now running SMD 5050 13-LED 1157 bulbs in the $99 ebay coupe tails. A lot brighter than the older bubble-looking LEDs - must have doubled the output. Also, I made a rookie mistake in using clear bulbs in a red housing originally - it looked pink and weak. My brother said fail - of course he was behind me so the only fail was in the bulbs..... :yesnod

Oh, and don't buy "tower" LED's for coupe tails - they don't fit if the bulb is any taller than a stock 1157.

I really want to add an LED strip or 2 about 9-10" long or 2 x 5" on each side, but I am worried about the intensity of the strips I have seen. There is room to install them attached to the removable bulb holder section so no need to mount in the light housing. Like this:

[ ___*___*] [*___*___ ]

Here are some strips I have been looking at, chime in if you have any thoughts on this. Every time I see a video on YouTube of s13 LED lights it seems to be hundreds of LED's, circuit boards and a lot of money.
