My wife is a doctor.... my job is keeping her happy.

The doctors wife joke is only funny to me I guess.

I go to a lot of medical dinner thingies. 2 things... #1 people always assume I'm a doctor cause I'm married to a doctor. #2 If you ask 80% of the women at the dinners what they do they say, "oh, well I'm a doctors wife" with the most snooty tude. I guess its an inside joke but I started saying "oh, well I'm a doctors wife" when I go to medical functions and people ask me what I do.

I am working on a BS in Accounting. If I ever finish it I will sit for the CPA exam and start my own tax accounting office with a partner or 2.

Hi all

My first post here & this seemed like as good a place as any to start.

Quite entertaining to see what others are doing : I am envious of the video game designer, myself.

I'm an Emergency Room doctor myself.... Just bought a used 2003 G35 coupe as a driver (I got a screaming deal on it > I was actually looking to replace an Accord coupe I used to have or a Maxima, but the G35 coupe was an excellent deal)..... You guys definitely already know what I just learned : an awesome car!

Welcome to Nico DOC!!!

Jeff,I took accounting principles 1 & 2 & Cost accounting as part of my Bus. minor. Like it! Work mainly with accountants in my job (supporting financial applications). We have a ton of accountants here!!! Seems to be a very good demand for accountants expecially after Sarbanes-Oxley has made life much more complicated than need be.

Jeff, I you occasionally, but you're one of the great posters here, so never take it personal.

Is there money to be made as a designer? Absolutely!!! Am I making it at UCR? hahahaha. I get paid less dinero because they dish out around $1000/month on benefits.

Sometimes I'd rather make the extra 35% and leave the benefits behind.

If I had my BA or BFA I'd probably be pushing 60k-75k, instead of getting about half of that.

Your daughter is welcome to contact me if she has any questions. I'm always up for meeting another designer. I took the "wrong" course with my career, but I'm gradually getting there. Started my own freelance design business at 16. I made great money, when I could find projects. I hate selling myself!

Thanks!!! I think it would be great for her to talk to somebody that is actually working in the field that she is getting ready to go to college for!

Right now, she is trying on wedding dresses!!

While picking out a prom dress the other week, the store manager asked her if she would like to model some wedding dresses for her in an upcoming bridal show. So, she's getting fitted for a show this Sunday.

He already did, in a previous thread. It's Dr. W661335PF, Psychiatrist. Wasn't it nice of NICO to provide one for us... Either that, or he is researching car nuts.

((Inner Monologue))Oh ****, now the psychiatrist is going to think that I'm upset at him for not including that info and that I have anger issues... maybe he's going to evaluate us... maybe he's going to create a file on us and examine our "inner children"... Oh ****... Did I just type that?!?! Please don't commit me!!! I swear the voices are normal!

I wish you luck in your studies! It's good to hear more people going into engineering - just don't get discouraged.

I love my job - my company does alot of government and private space industry work. It really is exciting. We design support equipment for various space programs. My company designed the mobile launcher for the space shuttle and we are currently working on the one that is for the shuttle's replacement. It is cool to know you are contributing to the space program and the company you work for is a part of history too.

It's a good sign that you like what you do, but I should have been a little more clear. I'd like to know what types of tasks you perform on a typical workday. Thanks for the response btw. Very much appreciated!

For my day, it varies alot. Because I am still a young engineer, I've been working in many different specialties, but even then, engineers at my job are asked to work in many different specialties. For instance, my day was split between piping system design calculations and performing structural FEA's. Some days, I do management of our 3D modelling data, a little programming for our 3D modelling package, improving the process by which we do our 3D modelling/drafting, some are spent doing 3D modelling, others CAD drafting, even assisting electrical engineers, and soon I will be doing some HVAC work. That is one of the great things about my company, it is a large enough company to have many varied jobs come through its doors, but it is small enough to learn many different disciplines.

I'm sorry if I'm not being too specific - that is the nature of where I work; can't give away too much!

That's exactly what I was looking for. Just wanna make sure the daily taks would be enjoyable. While I don't dislike math, I don't think I'd want to do only that all day long. A varied list of things to do would keep thing interesting.

No worries about the specific details. I figured it would have been redundant to tell you to leave that out...
