As with the engine thread, I've been really curious lately to hear each individual 'vert owner's opinions about their cars.

Why do you own a 240sx convertible?

Go ahead and vote for one of the options I've presented, or if your choice is not represented.. go ahead give your unique description with a post. If more than one person has that idea.. I'll add it to the poll.

Please do post an explanation of what you voted for.. I think it's really interesting to hear the diversity of uses and goals for these cars.

Of course, many of us will fall into more than one catagory. If you hit maybe two or three of these choices.. but think you can pinpoint one that may be predominant.. pick the most predominant use.

Let's not have everyone chose the "Well Rounded" choice just because you touch on more than one of those choices.

Thanks guys and gals!!!

I got mine to make a wide-body sil-vert drifter. I hope I can get it done the way I want it. I need to win the lottery but the first step will be coilovers then rollbars and then exhaust then wheels then brakes, then more power...

That is definately the order I want to do it in, and the final step would be the wide body stuff and paint as the final step. Too many people seem to worry about power first and brakes and suspension are absolutely last...

sigh...

i had to vote for show car - looks.

my wife and i originally bought it because we wanted a sport compact and she wanted a convertible (every hot blonde needs a vert ).

we started modding it and before long the "plan-to-do" mod list got pretty extensive. my wife wanted to make it a show car. it's her car - more power to her. then we got smashed by the deer. then we saw vader vert and it almost pissed my wife off because it was on the cover of the magazine. she said, "that's supposed to be my car!"

so now she's really inspired to get to this. we need a cleaner slate though. the old white one will probably get repaired so we can get our vert fix and maybe build the engine and do 5-speed swap and all that good stuff - kind of make it the test mule. as soon as we get another, it's straight to the garage not to be seen again until it's well on it's way to being show-quality. being the performance guy i am though, it'll be a show car with the bang to back it up. might get it done in 5 years.

Value - what other $2k-$3k car is comparable to a S13 convertible?

Good stuff guys!!

My car is a weekend cruiser! A way to enjoy the summer weather and surroundings. A chance to get the wind in my hair (what hair?) and get some sun. That's the most prevalent goal for me with my car. I'm all about the fun!

Having said that.. I would also say that I fall well into the Well Rounded category as well. I've put some work into looks, performance, uniqueness, etc.. On the other hand, my reliability and collectability have certainly gotten much worse... lol.

Thanks guys... keep em coming!

I may be the only one who's crazy enough to consider a Vert a daily.

Well rounded for me! It's gonna be nice enough to bring it to a show, yet not be afraid to use as a DD...Should have plenty of power, plan to build the SR top to bottom...Can't wait til its all done!

You're not. I'm currently using my vert as a DD until I get another car. When I do, this will be my weekend warrior...used for early morning and evening/late night runs. I can't do noon because I have dark brown complexion and I will just get darker . Besides it's too hot then anyways. I want my vert to be a well rounded one. Great looks, awesome handling, and lots of power . Someday...

I bought my vert because I needed a car for school because schoolbuses suck. I wanted my first car to be special. I worked my a$$ off and saved up in the small time frame I had. I refused to buy a regular car everyone else drives. It's also one of the better looking convertibles out there. Other reasons include the rare factor, RWD awesomeness, good looks, and the fact that a stock KA will get you some decent gas mileage. Handling isn't that bad either. I told myself when I was a little kid that i'd own a 240sx someday (no I don't have low expectations it's because I thought they looked really good). Oh yeah pop ups are always a nice thing too. Had to keep things Nissan!

^Ah but you plan on it changing status. I bought mine knowing it would be a DD, my coupe is the 'project'/weekend car.

Everyone's response to me: "You bought a convertible for a daily car? You're stupid."

Its what happens when you've wanted a S13 vert for about 12 yrs or so.

My car is a DD for two people and is parked on the street in a bad area of D.C. I work on it in the alley, and drive to a garage 4 hours away to do major stuff. Top that!

I really hope you have LoJack or some other kind of theft deterrence. It would suck big time if that vert got stolen.

I have a cassette stereo, the lugs on the wheels have a unique socket, and I'm putting in a quick release steering wheel.

There are Jags, and convertible BMWs and MBs on my street, so I'm hoping everything combined is enough of a deterrent. Most of my neighbors don't even know what kind of car it is.

Mine's a DD, but only cause I don't have anything else...I'd like to buy a nice hatch eventually though.

That's a good description 'Well Rounded.' Mine doesn't have power, but suspesion is getting there. It's my project car and weekend fun car. I've done everything in my garage all by myself with some tools from Wal-Mart, FSM and help from NICO. It's been a blast.

i voted for daily driver because, well it is. currently my only car....to go to school and run around everywhere i need to or want to go. i've only had the one i had now for not even a week, but i had a 92 vert that i got in an accident with and my new vert has a helluva lot more power. i was missing out on something with the old one, i dont know why it was so wimpy, my new one is stock too, maybe it was the transmission in the old one it was slippin and stuff. the new one shifts real good. it's really clean so i guess i could have also put well-rounded too.

I didn't see "tow rig" on the poll, although that's what I bought it for. It's still got the hitch to prove it. I build/race/collect motorcycles and needed to move them long distances cheaply and reliably...and of course have bitchin' ride the whole way. I bought a 255# aluminum trailer and have since put over 10k towing miles on the combo over a three year period.

A couple years back I got a company car with a hitch and the 240 was stored until a few weeks ago. It is now a full-fledged weekend cruiser with 17's and a five speed.

I originally wanted a Celica convert, imagine that! I went with the 240 because of RWD, Japanese reliability and good MPG as opposed to a Camaro or Stang.

I had no idea when I bought my car that it was the 57 Chevy of sport compacts...tons of possible mods & looks.

Chicks, I drives it stictly for the ladies! I loves me to cruise the streets of Willow Springs and have the women folk all stop and stare at my hella-coolness......

Okay, actually I bought it to postpone middleage-dom for as long as I can. I had no idea it had this kind of cult-like following. Now my 14-year-old (born same time my car was) is starting to get into modifying riding lawn mowers with his buddies to race. Can a 240sx coupe or fastback be in his future....? What is it about the internal combustion engine that makes us all crazy? Gas prices are at a record high but I still find myself driving around just for the hell of it.

Peace out
