I don’t get these people, I am currently active in the bimmerfest forums since I also own an E39 528i. I noticed a lot of threads are coming up about how the M35/45 compares to the 5 series. I figure Id play ball since I just recently purchased my M35 Sport and share my review. Gosh, the bashing I received. All these forum members have nothing good to say about the M meanwhile they never drove one, sat, or know anything about the car. From personal experience, I know the M35 destroys the E39 in every category! I own both cars! But they feel just because they have a ‘BMW” that there vehicle is far superior. Give me a break! I admit, the BMW drive performance is impressive but you have to factor in all categories in order to determine if a product is good. Reliability, Maint, build quality and the BMW just does not cut it. The E39 is simply a money pit. It spends more time in the shop rather on the road. They use cheap crappy plastic in the BMW (AKA – Cheap upholders) and they want to rip on Nissan & Infinti? It’s ridiculous. I think people out there are sooooo brainwashed and have no clue what’s out there. How can you call a car “superior quality” meanwhile the thing breaks down every week. The electronic bugs, cooling systems blowing up destroy head gaskets, transmission replacements. Yes, I been through it all and I am sick of it. I think they are just jealous and don’t want to admit that the Japanese is coming up fast. BMW is in trouble these days.

BTW – I went head to head with a 04-08 528i E60 the other day on the freeway. And it was no competition. Drop my M in manual mode left him in my rear view. He couldn’t even catch up!

Not surprising....Most import enthusiasts don't fault the BMW for what it is, they fault the BMW owners who think they are better than others. Here at NICO we are primarily car enthusiasts who own or lean towards Nissan/Infiniti products. Usually, we own multiple manufacturers or have owned something in the past from each or some of them. While BMW owners themselves may own various other models, the fact they have a BMW seems to give them a superiority complex for some unknown reason. I simply have never understood it.

BMW owners are terrible. I think it's a cultural difference. Part of the reason I sold mine.

BMW can change a person in number of negative ways....very obnoxious and full of BS

I love when they buy one, and then realize how much is it to change certain parts.....hilarious

My brother had 740i and sold it after 2 years. My buddy had 330i and sold it after 2 years.

I think it is the name itself.

Seriously, some BMW’s owners do not know anything. I bet if you take the Infiniti signs off our M’s and slap on a bmw badge, for get it. You would see nothing but praises for years on the bimmer forums about the M. For most of these owners it’s just the name and looking good on the streets, they don’t care how much they dump into these cars because “Look im driving a BMW, I am high class” :tisk: . I can’t stand the attitudes of some of these people. Then they talk all this trash about American, Japanese cars and how they can never be on the same status as them. But half of them don’t even know that the 5 series shared “American parts” like the GM transmission on my 528I. These fools makes me laugh! :lolling:

it's totally true, and the funny thing is. when i pull up to these so called "Ultimate Driving Machines" they are intimidated by my car. I dunno if its the "S" package on my M that throws things of for them. but they always give me the im scared look  .lol my car is very rare around me. i havent seen one 08 sport on the road yet.

I love how the majority of BMW owners at least around here anyway, drive so effing slow! It is never a young guy or anyone who is into racing or anything its some 33-60+ yr old just being a p**** with their "Ultimate Driving Machine"! Makes me angry. The wasted potential just so you can be a snob that clogs up the road! *middle finger+rev+Drop clutch+burnout*

So I posted that I would have to sell my car because he would also think my car is gay too. It's called having the BMW ego syndrome. :spitout:

I'll trade ya. Here in L.A. (mostly Glendale & Van Nuys) they're all teenagers with roid rage, road rage & Rage Against The Machine. "Swichn' lanes yo!"... can't seem to stay in one lane, often switching from tailgating you to cutting you off in one foul swwop so they can get to the offramp in front of you instead of behind. They forgot the "safe" and "courteous" portions of driver's ed. For some reason silver is the color of choice for these guys, usually with a salvage title & questionable M3 or DINAN badge.

Never heard of that one before. Even before buying an M45S, I would drool all over myself when I see one on the street. Never thought of it as a woman car. :tisk:

hahahhahahaa....I read this thread...too funny, but soooo true...I've had several car brands and must say that the newer BMW body styles are great...but the attitude I can do without...

half the people around here Lease their BMW's and drive around like they own the roads...some of them don't know what they are driving -- as long as it says BMW on the badge. I tend to get a lot of 528's, 328's, 330's & 335's wanting to show me up....LOL. They get behind me to get a view of my badge (from the rear) and speed up to pull along side of me....I just laugh....at a stop light....green ---> GONE! then at the next light, I hear, "what do you have in that engine????" I just say it's a "normal" V6 family sedan... :naughty:

....Matter of fact, last Saturday, I'm driving South on the 405 fwy and this guy suddently pulls right in front of me (he was driving a 745i with 22"s, not lowered, windows tinted, etc...) he decides to really slow down -- so I move over next to him then he speeds up...duh!! OK...now its time. I get behind him and he is trying his hardest to "leave me behind", but to his surprise, I'm still there....Hahahhahah. So finally I get tired of this and switch lanes -- bye bye.... I look back in the rear view and he is trying like hell to keep up....he's switching lanes, cutting off people, excessive body roll...finally there's a stretch of way open fwy....I hit 140+ C-ya.....I wonder if he owns up to that on the Forum....he was driving a dark blue 745i (maybe an 04-06)?? 22" deep dish, dark tint, etc... :gotme

I love being the 'underdog'

- Very interesting and spot on...

Sometime early last year, I was hell bent on trading my M35 for a BMW. I found a nice 550i 6sp - loaded (sport etc...) and fell in love with the look of it. This dealership also sold me my M and my wifes limited E350. Soo the Sales lady tells me to take the car for the weekend, (this was a Thursday night).

By Saturday morning, I was back at the dealership going :wtf2: . I didn't like the steering, the interior, the electronics layout and the leather felt like shyt. I did enjoy the highway feel as the car felt planted and very stable. But around town, it had no life to it, unless it was pushed hard. On my next vacation back at home, i did the same with a 335 Sedan. I loved the power but again, the car didn't have any life to it unless pushed hard. Not to mention, it was tight on the inside. (i'm a big stocky guy). My neighbor owns a late model M Roadster of some sort, can't remember model #. But he comes over while i'm overlooking the 335 and says "You won't be happy with it! If I had to choose between your Infiniti and this 335, I would stay with your car". His last words were, "The good thrills it will give, will equal lots of bills out of your pockets".

These cars have one of the best, if not the best, packages of Looks, Power & refinement, of any sedan. While i often regret not getting the M45, I do love my Loaded M and be thankful that I don't have any more power than I already have, because more will only get me in trouble.

I have had about 12 vehicles from a Twin Turbo Z, Audi S4, Honda Accord with 6 speed and currently my 2006 M45s. It is also the nicest most comfortable car that Ive had. My boy has some 2007 5series inline "BMW" that i have been in and borrowed many of times and ill admit, the BMW does feel very comfortable/smooth on the road and weve had it over an easy 150mph but the BMW is cheap on the inside, seats are cheap/uncomfortable, no cooled seats, cheap plastic, and the amenities blow. but he does get over 30mpg highway

my 2 cents: before i bought my m35x, i was choosing between E-class, 5 series, A6, and the M, and honestly God I wasn't really looking at the prices, however after test driving all of them the M stood out by FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR , it has enough power, decent looks, great reliability, GORGEOUS interior, and all the possible technology available at that day. M35x the BEST

I don't get it either with BMW owners. I had a very nice 540i. It was in the shop almost on a weekly basis for repairs. The last time it went in I asked the service rep how much would that repair have cost me if it wasn't covered by the warranty. He told me about $6,000. I immediately took it to my local Infiniti dealer and I traded it for my M45. In the eight years I have owned the M it was in the shop once for a tpms problem, excluding regular maintence.

I have also knocked off in speed and acceleration more beemers than I can count. Its seems the BMW has become a status symbol and most are not driven as they were meant to be. The snotty attitude of the owners seems to be, look at me, I have more money than you. I will keep my M and continue to challenge any beemer driver when the time is right. How can I get rid of a car that has been 100% reliable, can kick most beemers butts uphill, downhill and on a twisty road.

My old M still rocks today as if it were new. Poop on the BMW and their owners. I'll take their cars on and their snotty attitudes anyday.

I am a huge Bmw fan I have owned a few of them and still own a E46 to date. My E46 that I have now is a beast! I bought it in 2006 with 50k on it right now it has almost 180k and the only thing I have done to this car is regular maint. Still has the original transmission and I never did a transmission flush. Bmw does make awesome cars no question about it!

Now I recently purchased a 07 M35x I was originally in the market for a 5 series. I did alot of research on the M35 and found it is the better bang for the buck the car drives very good the features are top notch and the reliability is awesome. All this to say every car has its flaws and some people are die hard fans of certain brands not all Bmw owners are tools :dblthumb: I love my beamer and my M35 :dblthumb:

2 quick storys:

My neignbor bought a used 7 series (2008, I believe) recently and was cleaning out the glove box from the PO's collection of papers. Inadvertently, one receipt for work done at a dealer blew from the pile and landed in my yard without him noticing. I see it the next day and pick it up and realize that it is probably his.... there were over $12,000 in repairs to the vehicle for engine, A/C & supension related parts & labor. These were not accident-related repairs as the receipt clerly stated that the customer observed the engine was not running right and the A/C didn't blow cold. Mostly, there were bushings that were replaced, struts, steering parts and various sensors along with tansmssion parts and a valce of some sort internal to the engine.

I looked at my M and smiled.

The second story took place in a Tire Store that also sells batteries and does minor repairs. A 2010 7-series BMW owner walks in and asks if they have a battery that will fit his car. The BMW owner seemed a bit desperate as he was having to jump it to start every time. The service person said that he did but that the battery has to be a certain brand so that the car will recognize the battery and register it to the car. The service person went on to say that several electrical systems (i-drive & audio) will not operate if the battery is not "registered" to the vehicle and that the car would probably not charge the battery correctly as well. He finished by saying that the dealer was the best place to go for a battery (It was 5:30 PM on a Sunday.)

I wondered what German genious had come up with that one...and smiled at my M again.

Here is the crux of the trouble with lots of BMW owners. This is a smashingly brilliant video with a sexy woman, sexy cars, and quite possibly THE wildest off-road driving in a monster truck. It's and advert for Monster drinks. The guy in the monster truck gets the girl, takes her to Vegas, and on the way they see a hot girl in a photo shoot leaning against the hood of a BMW. The driver decides to mess up the shoot and have a laugh. A really good video ... but then some of the inmates at the BMW asylum oops! forum got wind of it. Watch the vid, then see below how some of them reacted. It does my head in that they missed the entire point of the video and turned it into a "BMW hater" issue.

EDIT: change the video to 1080p and fullscreen !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mmh-ew1s ... r_embedded

One of the inmates in the forum made it a new thread titled: "THEY MAKE FUN OF US"

"What do they have against M3's?" (who are 'they' and why is he so insecure?)

"So what I take away from this is that people hate on our car. A metophorical "crapping on" the M3 (and a scantily dressed hottie) while the other hottie who drove the rice-mobile claps her hands in cheers. "
(YES - the one complaining about haters called the GTR a rice-mobile.)

"As a Vegas resident I will now be boycotting Aria Casino and hotel as well as Monster brand energy drinks due to their blatant prejudice." ( Aria Casino will be closing - this bloke will spend his $20 elsewhere))

"Sick video. I loved all the cars. even though ours was damaged" ( sand and dust 'damage' BMWs?)

"The M3 girl was hotter anyways" (Janie was BOTH girls in the video - just one girl in the entire video)

If this isnt wholesale insecurity, I ask you what is ??? Why would they buy a car that (they think) eveyone hates?
BMWs body styles are brilliant! Other than that - nothing remarkable about them - unless you're the mechanic who gets paid to constantly repair them, LOL

think they're just butthurt that they spent all that money and there are nicer cars out there that do more for less. I'm not talking STI or EVO but within the same class. Get what you want, enjoy it, and don't be an a** about what others like. Remember reading a thread about the 550 vs M45 and one of the guys on the BMW forum was defending the M45, saying a 545/550 isn't worth it. They bashed him and said his M5 wasn't worth it over a regular 550. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showth ... p?t=144514

It happens everywhere though. I don't hangout with most of the G/Z crew around here because of their attitudes either. The entire "I'm better than you because I have a Z." Went to one meet where one of the guys, passenger I mind you, started mocking a guy that drove by with his gf. He was driving some econobox and the passenger started saying things such as "I bet she's really regretting being with that loser now. Probably thinking "why can't my bf have such a nice car?"" It was enough to turn me away from that crowd apart from the few friends I've known beforehand.

As I said, it's a car, enjoy it for what you like it and leave it at that. Cars do come and go and there will always be something better out there. Personally, I'm still happy with my M45 and don't see it going anywhere, though I do regret trading in my 06 Altima for it instead of keeping both at times. Though that may be the memories in that car haha

I have commented on this post before. As a former BMW owner, I bought the car for performance and it did perform well when not in the shop getting fixed. It's become a status car. Like, I have more money than you. Most of the buyers are snots and really don't appreciate what the car was designed to do. The fact they own a BMW somehow makes them superior to use common folks. The last day I got my 540i out the shop I drove right over to my Infiniti dealer. I traded the costly repair car for a 2004 M45. So far the Infiniti has given me no problems like the BMW did. As a matter of fact, my M45 has knocked off the 3 series, the 5 series, because the drivers at more concerned about status. The 7 series is all about luxury and in no way is it a challenge to take one of those on.

Short story, my wife and I were making a trip to NJ. A 5 series passed me. I told the wife to hang on. I jerked about with the BMW for a while, then just left his sorry a** in the dust. So much for BMW's is all I have to say. They are nice machines, but the owners are A holes in my opinion!

Great thread. We saw this phenomenon several years ago, when the G Coupe knocked off the 330i in a Motor Trend comparo - We released the cover before it hit newsstands, and the BMW community pooped its collective pants... they're quite defensive about their cars.

I think the big difference is this: Nissan / Infiniti owners are more likely to maintain and modify their cars themselves, rather than purchasing mods to be installed by a shop.

I've driven a ton of cars in my day, and there's only a handful of BMWs that I felt were sufficiently impressive to justify the initial cost (and long-term expense). MOST of those are older cars, like the 2002, the 635CSi, a mid 90's 7-series, and E30 M-series. I'm just not terribly impressed with the rest...

...in fact, you can probably gauge my interest level by the designations - I'm not even certain I know the names of their modesl all that well. Same with Mercedes.

I'd rather have a 2004 M35 all day long. :)

p.s. Larz, I always enjoy your posts. :dblthumb:
