Could you guys do me a favor and tell me what this is and what it does? I was looking around my bay trying to find a clicking noise(injectors) and I found out that that was loose. Not sure what it is, maybe a vacuum line? What happens if it comes loose? My car has been having some power issues lately and I was wondering if this was related.

And the picture was stolen from a very good write up on how to install a s14 ka into an s13 by tonynalli. WHich can be found here: zerothread?id=149063

I'm guessing you're talking about the small pipe coming off the valve cover. It just there to release excess gas in with the valves as things heat up. Normally there should be a small hose that connects that to your intake. Or just take the easy way out and get one of those tiny air filters from auto zone.

If i were to remove the hose from that pipe, would i have to plug anything on the intake? any gains from doing this?

IIRC, that hose connects to the intake very close to the TB. In that case, you probably should just keep any thing out of your motor since that wouldn't be filtered air. More than likely nothing would come of it, but it never hurts to be extra careful, expecially when it comes to your own car.

On another note, you most definately would NOT want to plug up the pipe that lets the valves breath. A lot of pressure could very well end up building in there, which would be bad.

That is a breather stem. In instance to allow oil to move more fluid through the engine, also to take in hot gases back through the intake. When guys turbo charge and run high boost a catch can is installed. So much positive pressure is applied on forced induction that the oil moves to the catch can.I don't see to much purpose in the breather accept a nusance. I just cap off the end to the intake, then I would apply a filter to the breather (although it doesn't allow the engine to pass smog visually)....
