A textbook can only get you so far. In the real world that sort of knowledge is only so helpful.
If you really want to learn, you need to meet someone with a turbo motor, and the knowhow to fix it. Offer to help work on it, then spend the whole time leaching information out of them. The best knowlege comes from life experience, with engines this is especially true. I learned by doing, when stuff broke I had to fix it. I didnt have anyone to teach me, it would have made things easier.
PS, if they get annoyed with all the questions, just change the subject, most of us have hardcore ADD.
